Concept Art 27: King of Durashonia (Patreon)
Content
After Kin's parents suddenly passed away, he had to grow up very rapidly to attend to his responsibilities as the next King, leaving his friends like Beatrix behind in order to fulfill his new role.
To say his new life as Ruler was overwhelming would be an understatement, the amount of responsibility on his shoulders was enormous and any mistake would be heavily scrutinized by the kingdom, his whole life was now under a magnifying glass, and every move counted.
As much as his counselors, parliament, and family servants tried to help him it just wasn't enough, Kin felt he wasn't the right person to become the king, at least that was before he met Frederick. The king of Exicom was far more experienced and contrary to popular belief he seemed very kind and amicable, at least to Kin, which made the young king quickly trust Frederick, desperately looking for someone he could lean on, a mentor and a friend that would help Kin gain a lot of confidence in himself and believe he could actually become a good king.
Soon enough Kin would realize he had made a huge mistake when it started to be obvious how little Frederick cared for him and how much he was involving himself and his government in Durashonian Affairs, slowly filling the parliament and the academy of magic with Exicom counselors. It didn't take much for Frederick to reveal his true colors and start to gaslight Kin into surrendering his Crown to him, but Kin didn't give in, which Frederick "apparently" took very well. To no one's surprise, Frederick changed his tactics and started subtly menacing Kin into accepting his specific demands, if the young king rejected the negotiations then Frederick would take actions to affect Durashonias economy, like changing suppliers and limiting exportations and importations of resources from Durashonia which would quickly put the kingdom in an economic crisis, since their relationship with Valdosarel was severed due to the ex-communication and Atlagamea has closed their doors to the other kingdoms.
Kin knew his public image wasn't good since many people considered him a traitor that sold himself to Exicom, but rejecting Frederick's demands would put the entire kingdom in danger, he didn't have the courage nor the experience to counter his demands or impose himself to the situation, what if trying to reject Frederick could end up causing a war? After so many sacrifices Durashonians suffered to get his independence he can't allow that to happen again.
Kis is in a tight spot and Frederick casually visits Durashonia in order to intimidate him and remind him of the possible consequences his actions could cause if he doesn't either accept the demands or forfeit the throne. Our little king has it difficult.
Next, we will meet the Queen of Atlagamea!
