As the Lords of the Legion Pack is being wrapped up and prepared for release to all Forge Masters over the next day or two, the sketchbook is already filling up with ideas for August.

Next month, the Evil Dwarf ranks grow with Elite Infantry

As always, the goal is to keep them fully compatible with the modular ecosystem, but they should immediately stand apart from the regular warriors. When you look across the battlefield, there should be no mistaking who the veterans are.

Heavier armor. More imposing silhouettes. More ornate details. The sort of warriors that have earned their place at the front of the legion.

Forge Masters will also receive an Army Standard Bearer, compatible with the existing banner system while introducing new standards, magical banners, icons and totems to help give your armies even more character.

I’ve already got plenty of ideas scribbled down, but some of the best additions to the Evil Dwarf range have come from conversations here in the forge.

So, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

What makes an Elite Evil Dwarf unit to you?

Is it their armour?

Their weapons?

Their helmets?

Their trophies?

Or is there something you’ve always wanted to see that nobody has tackled yet?

The forge has spoken before, and many of those ideas have found their way into the range. Let’s see where this discussion leads.

I would say it depends on what elite it is. Character or unit. What role does it fill! A defensive unit, armor and helm. A heavy attack or ranged, weapon. If it is a fast attack, all three. If it is a character everything plus trophies. Characters should stand out. I personally don’t like when they blend in with the rank and file.

I believe the simplest distinguishing features were bigger hats and bigger axes, as well as back banners for characters. And... they are still dwarves -> bigger beards ;o)))

The sketch looks suitable already! I‘d say, for a Defense line, it is shields and helmets. For full attack, weapon and helmets, and overall maybe bigger shoulder pads to switch. Since I am more in line with the rounded helmets and not the high ones I also think about crests and (metal? Spikey?) plumes across the domes

Oh, and cloaks. In this case chainmail- and/or scalemale-cloaks.

Oooooh. Just thought of something. What about something based on the Berserker Gutbuster dwarves from Forgotten Realms like Thibbledorf Pwent? Covered in spikes. 100% murder.

Thanks everyone, this is exactly the sort of feedback I need. There are already a few ideas here that have made their way onto the scratch pad, while others I certainly see fueling a new Furnace Cults or other little packs down the track. All your replies genuinely help shape the design process. Keep them coming, some of the best additions to the Evil Dwarf range have started as conversations just like this :D

Typically Elite is better armor, fancier weapons, but it depends on the army of course.
