so that's officially the end of the Kanto league now, Ash has finished moping and he's ready to move onto his new adventure. The rest of the season is kind of interesting from a behind the scenes perspective actually, tomorrow we'll finally start the actual Orange Islands arc. The arc is set in a place made entirely for the anime, but has some characters from the games, the anime staff had to come up with this new place to sort of buy a bit of time, Gen 2, the next generation of Pokemon games, Gold and Silver was still just under a year away from release, so outside of a few things (like Togepi), they weren't allowed to use the characters, pokemon, locations or storylines from those games yet, not until they were much closer to launch. It's the whole brand synergy thing the franchise uses to promote each part and refresh itself, every few years (well use to at least, over the last 5 years they've made efforts to restructure so the games, anime and cards can be more independent, it was getting far to unwieldy), but since this was their first generational transition they hadn't worked everything out yet, so... we get a short original adventure for a while.
