The bequeathing of the swords is very interesting! Did daddy intend for the boys to fight forever or did he intend for them to need one another?!

My interpretation when I read this part back when it was released was that Inuyasha needs all of daddy's tools to protect himself, since he's just a half-demon - hence, his inheritance of the Tetsusaiga and all its powers that seem tailored for him. And to rely on others, which Inuyasha has learned pretty well. Sesshomaru, on the other hand, needs to learn the opposite: Stop relying on dad's powers, stop craving others' weapons like the Tetsusaiga (which he wanted so badly at the start of the series) to boost your power, maybe help your little brother (who is weaker than you) just a little bit, and learn to stand on your own two feet as an incredibly powerful great demon in your own right - perhaps someone who could surpass daddy in due time. But we may never know.
