Fun fact, in the cold open scene where Doctor catches River, Alex Kingston on one of the takes hit her knee against Matt Smith's knackers. Another one, this was the first episode filmed for Matt and Karen so with Alex who had experience prior within the show, helped them a bit.

Also all the 'non-angel statue' statues were actually actors and apparently it drove Matt insane that if one of them moved even in the slightest he would have to redo a scene. Hence why alot of the scenes later on became shots of the statues without any of the other cast members so they could use stills

I haven't gotten to your review at the end yet, so you might have addressed it already -- but to answer your question about the "two heads", basically the Doctor and River simultaneously realized that if the statues were built by the Aplans, they should all have two heads rather than one

I’m pretty sure that this episode was the first thing that Matt and Karen filmed together (they rarely ever film the stories in sequence), and you can tell straight away the report and chemistry they have between them. They became great friends as a result of working together on DW.

You are 100% correct. The Time Of Angels 2 parter were the very 1st episodes Matt & Karen filmed + I remember paparazzi shots on the beach (which coincidentally is Bad Wolf Bay btw) RTD & Moffat believed that it's better to film other episodes before shooting an Ep 1 as its fairer to the main leads. Let them build good chemistry without pressure on their debut. So The Eleventh Hour was shot later after Matt & Karen had built up a good working relationship on set to make it less pressuring. You can see the incredible chemistry Matt & Karen have from the beginning & it's electrifying 😍

To touch on your question "so they can't ever die, you can't ever smash them with a hammer". You may or may not be able to smash them, but the point is you're not smashing a weeping angel, you're smashing a statue. The weeping angels literally stop existing when you look at them, in other words, you cant ever see a weeping angel. You might be able to destroy the statue and make them non-physical when it turns back into a weeping angel, but im not sure a non-physical weeping angel is an improvement. There may or may not be some potentional issues for this presented in next episode, but I have my own fan explanation for that.

One thing to single out: Murray Gold's music! He completely reinvented the sound of Doctor Who for the "fairy tale" aesthetic that Moffat was going for. And it works so well. With what you said about Victory of the Daleks changing the timeline, that's not what happened at all. The Daleks in that episode are survivors from Series 4's finale. So the events of the Dalek stories of Series 4 still happened, Amy not remembering is something completely different that will be explained later

Yes, the River Song- Doctor relationship is...complicated (Spoilers!). Actually, calling it complicated is a gross understatement (Spoilers!). To tell you the truth, River Song herself is...extremely complicated. (Spoilers!) I do have to say that the beginning of this episode is so fantastic because Alex Kingston was smoking hot in that outfit.

I’m not sure if someone else has said this & it might be only my interpretation. But I’m fairly sure what went on was that the Angels killed off all the Aplans. Then The Angels retreated to the maze of the dead and over hundreds of years began to starve & their form degrade. The Angel on the Star-Liner knew about their siblings & caused the ship to crash. The crashed ship then helps to reanimate the Angels.

Love your excitement when seeing River!!! I love this two-parter so much. I just love River so much and Alex and Matt have such good chemistry. This being the first thing that Matt and Karen filmed as Doctor and companion is crazy cause they do such a good job, you can’t tell at all.

Question for the the sci-fi geeks in the room. If Data from Star Trek, or some other android being was viewing the angels, would they be stone? If not, would that in itself prove that the machine was alive? Just a nerd thought to get your gears going….

When Father Octavian spoke, I immediately recognized his voice.. I was like, JORAH MORMONT! The scene with Amy and the angel on the screen was definitely one of the most memorable Doctor Who moments.

I left this as a youtube comment but I wanted to say it here too; I think the most important things to know about the 11th Doctor are that he shouts when he's scared, and he's quiet when he's angry. That can help to understand his reactions sometimes.

Angela, I believe you were a bit excited to see River and forgot to watch carefully ;) When the Doctor answers 'Yes', he doesn't actually answer Amy's second question (re: River being his future wife). he answers her first question (him being grumpy). remember, he knows exactly as much about River as we do - he has no idea what their relationship in the future is. btw, that look Matt gave when River said "there's a creature in the belly of this ship that can never die", that was the closest I think he has ever gotten to Daemon. for a second I almost saw him. but the stupid hair ruined it :D

I never thought about it too deeply (why they stayed, why they starved in the first place) but that explanation seems legit. I have no idea how Angels travel. do they have spaceships? was it just a matter of no other options to escape the planet?

Disagree on your logic there. The Doctor knows who she is to him, at least enough to confirm the question. She knew his name, and in the Forest of the Dead he said there's only one way she could know his name. Heavily implied that is because she is his wife.

I never took it like that. When I first saw the show, I just assumed there was a situation in which he would tell her his name. I never associated it with marriage, or vows, or prenups, or anything like that. I am not a person who often thinks about marriage, so this is probably why my mind never went there but I still think there are plenty of situations when he might have told her his name (including the last time they met, when he was actually preparing her to meet his younger version and gain his trust?) I imagined (and still do) that he did it because his younger version had heard her use his name, and he just figured he'd close the loop (classic sci-fi trope). not to mention... spoilers? I am not saying anymore, iykyk. :)

Nipping back and forth between your Wednesday reactions and Doctor Who. Thoroughly enjoyable combo. Now I see why you enjoy Matt Smith's Doctor so much. David's Doctor might enjoy a brief visit to Nevermore. Matt's would hang out there on a semi-permanent basis just to enjoy the local ambience. I used to watch the original Addams' Family back in the 60s. This is a great follow-up.
