Band of Brothers Episode 6 FULL LENGTH Reaction | The Breaking Point

FULL LENGTH REACTION

Another great reaction. Yeah this episode is always hard to watch. Bill is a fan favorite kinda universally. One thing another reactor, Movie Night with Jacqui, pointed out when she did a reaction to this series is Buck after he's shot is never in focus on screen again. He's always off to one side, out of frame, kinda in the distance, etc...all really clever film making elements to show visually how he's changed as a soldier. I just think that's a really clever technique. As to your point on Dike and if the show is entirely accurate, to my understanding its fairly accurate. Dike was NOT popular among the officers of Easy company, and did freeze up during the assault on Foye. However he did earn several medals and commendations for bravery under fire, and personally led several rescue missions to recover wounded soldiers who had been left behind. So the dude wasn't a complete wash of a soldier. Wow we're almost done. Episodes 8, 9 and 10 left. I know this is a difficult show but I hope its worth the watch, if not "enjoyable". Keep up the great work gal, and enjoy your break! And Spiers is built differently.

Rogier Oude Heuvel

Jamie Bamber aka Capt Lee "Apollo" Adama was in the Siege of Foy there asking for orders from Dike, he was the one asked to "Flank" Foy by Dike

It’s funny on this rewatch I caught it, but I didn’t notice him until the next episode

Bubba Fett

Spiers seems to be one of those right person right place right time type individuals. Looking back to his chat with Blythe it makes sense why he does what he does. Do what you have to do and dont worry about the outcome.

As you ended it talking about making dark jokes, my mind leaped back to the "German leg" line.

this episode is rough, I kinda love that the end of the episode your first words were I need chocolate. I feel that so much

One day Shifty came to Lipton and said "that tree over there was not there yesterday" (It's a fucking forest. It's nothing BUT trees) But "Company's Hawkeye" Shifty Powers says the tree is wrong... so they act on it. The officers order a mortar round to be fired at the "tree". Lo and behold, the tree explodes -- it's not a tree. It's a German observation post, masked as a tree, that Germans built during the last night. Shifty noticed and told the officers. They trusted him without question. The tree was a mile away. ==== Another story is soldiers checking up on the sniper shot in the attic and commenting "It's simply not fair trying anything against Shifty when he has a rifle"

ellmo

That's true. He believes he's dead already.

Shifty may be hard to recognize in the combat scenes, but he's easy to recognize outside of combat due to his Southern accent. He's the definition of soft spoken. I was watching an interview with a combat vet once and they asked them how they got over their experiences when they returned to civilian life. They just looked at them and said "who says I got over it?" You never really get over it.

“I had Lipton on my bedsheets” My brain: “They made Lipton iced tea bedsheets??” Incredibly rough episode, most definitely the first time watching. Thank you for sharing such vulnerable and sincere reactions to material that can be emotionally devastating. Hope you ended getting that chocolate 🍫💜

There's some conflicting info about Dike's uselessness. We know Winters and Lipton and a lot of the rest of the men had a very low opinion of him, but also what they interpreted as him freezing up during the attack on Foy may have just been due to him getting wounded. So probably not a good combat leader in general but maybe not quite as much an idiot or coward as in the show. The show also implies he died there but he did actually survive the war.

I think one of my favourite little tidbits from Tom Hanks during the Band of Brothers podcast was him recounting the Spiers run through Foy. The Captain actually ran quite a bit farther through the town, there and back, but they shortened it because audiences wouldn't believe such a wild story. He goes on about a number of instances like that, where for one reason or another, they had to town down reality.

I'm 59 now but as a kid, I had heard the term "Foxhole Norman". Watching this, I now know where that came from.

Lipton couldn't lead the company because he was an enlisted man. A high-ranking enlisted man being an E8 which is the second highest enlisted pay grade. But still an enlisted man. A CO is always an officer. When he got his battlefield commission (which is exceedingly rare, and almost unheard of in the modern era) he became a 2nd Lieutenant, and was a platoon leader in E Co until the war in Europe ended. The Germans were always running around because they were in the open when they were out in front of those buildings. That made them a prime target for snipers. You never stay still in the open. Even if your platoon is stopped for something in an environment like that where you know the enemy is watching (especially in urban environments like Baghdad), you need to keep moving. Sidestep a couple feet. Move back a couple steps. Move forward and to the side three or four. Make sure you never stay still for more than a couple seconds, and keep the movements random. My unit called it the "sniper shuffle," lol. I'd guess others did too.

Lol yep. my mind went to the same place.
