Another strong episode. The last part of the series shows the war in Europe winding down but the power of the series does not wane. The last episode in particular is going to hit hard. Also, to clarify: At the time, an enlisted man could not technically be promoted to officer. So Lipton was discharged as an enlisted man and then re-enlisted as an officer. As you'll see, he stayed with Easy.

I think Webster was sent back to England after being wounded in Holland, so there was no way he could've made it back to France. Episode 9 is next?......oh boy.

Rory Owens

Eion Bailey's narration of this episode always came off a bit flat to me - certainly not as good as Donnie Wahlberg's last episode - but I thought his acting was solid enough. I liked the contrast between his more measured, less anarchic mindset and the likes of Popeye and Bill who went AWOL from the hospital to get back to their unit. Soldiers don't all think the same, and most probably did what they were supposed to and weren't eager at all to get back into action. Comparing Malarkey in the shower to the lively, cheerful and gregarious guy he was on D-Day is always heart-wrenching. Great performance from Scott Grimes to look so dead behind the eyes. This episode is definitely a step down from the trauma of episode seven, and it needed to be. Plus, as the ending scroll mentioned, soon Easy Company will be entering Germany, and episode nine is... well, you'll see.

Command of a Battalion is typically supposed to be for a Major, at least in theory. Winters had been given the position of Command for 2nd Battalion, but it hasn't been until this episode that he received the rank.

Seeing your reactions to this series, looking forward to reactions to "The Pacific". That series hit more at home for me, as both my grandfathers served in the Pacific theater, in some of the toughest battles.

At around 8.29 you can see Spiers just standing there and watching where its going to drop. Just recently noticed this and its seems many have missed that. Dude is just chilling

Buck Rogers

Enlisted men could certainly be promoted, what was odd was that they let Lipton stay in Easy instead of reassigning him.

Finally, Angela you recognize Jamie Bamber in BoB. His calls sign in BSG was Apollo. I feel like I've been overusing the word Bob ever since I watched your reaction to "Thunderbolt" two days ago. It was funny watching you realize that Lewis Pullman played two "Bobs" in his acting career. There is that word again BOB. lol

Airwolf515

Angela don't feel so bad for not understanding the ranks in the military. The officer's rank is different depending on the military branch. When mentioning the rank of Richard Winter and the fictional James T. Kirk, it is best to remember that the former is in the Army and the later, although in a fictional Federation Starfleet, is in the Navy. Starfleet based its officer rank on the U.S. Navy (USN), and the colorful uniform of Kirk's crew (red, blue and yellow) were based on the colored uniform of the USN aircraft carrier deck crew. Lieutenant in both services is the lowest ranking officer. It is ranked above sergeant in the Army or chief in the Navy. A sergeant/chief is considered a non-ranking officer (NCO). A captain in the Army is still considered a low ranking officer. It is one rank above lieutenant. However, a rank of captain in the Navy is very high, which is below an admiral. A captain in the Navy is seen equivalent to the Army's full colonel, which is below a general. Hence, when comparing Captain Winters to Captain Kirk, Kirk would out rank Winters. With Winter being promoted to Major, he is two ranks away from becoming a general. He would need to be promoted to Lt. Colonel and then full Colonel, which is probably the rank of Easy Company's overall CO Robert Sink played by Dale Dye, the shows military advisor.

Christopher Andersen

So since you hate Cobb, if you notice at the end he is in a jeep with MPs. He was arrested and court martialed after assaulting Lt, Foley (character Jamie Bamber played) in real life.

Webster was not treated like a replacement when he returned, its a bit dramatized for the show, he was a veteran of both normandy and market garden two horrific missions for the airborn troops, he wasnt some "back line" soldier who had never seen combat
