Re the last scene of episode 5 - Moffat later said that there was a valid scene to be written there about how shared trauma can bring people together in a way they may not otherwise have been. However, he played it entirely for laughs instead. It's his deepest regret from his time as showrunner.

ButtyOh

Rory - "and you kissed her back?" Doctor - "no I kissed her mouth." Is still one of my favourite lines

Leo Cap

while not my favorite alien mystery episode, this episode has some of my favorite humor of season 5– specifically Rory, at just about every turn

Dani

Yeah overall this was a fun and silly episode. Maybe not the best but it was still a good time,

Gallows Girl Amy

It's a fun episode and a great way to get Rory into the Tardis. You asked if that was him on the library card. That was indeed William Hartnell, in his own words "...The Doctor. The original you might say."

Jacob King

It’s definitely more of a cheesy episode except it keeps going really dark, Isabella being sacrificed, Guido blowing himself up, Rosanna committing suicide by child cannibalisation. I wonder if the original script was more of a horror and they just adapted into a comedy because they needed a lighter moment in the overall series arc. Rory isn’t my favourite companion but he’s objectively the best.

The reason why I love Rory over Mickey is because Rory will insert himself and stand up for himself whereas Mickey's just a whiny, stamp his foot, "look at me" child. Rory will fight for who he loves as we saw even in this episode. Mickey just pouts in a corner and throws a pity party. Anyway! I agree, it's not the best story but every season has that one episode that's a nice breather episode and let's you kick back a bit. But I'll take Calmarians over those damn mannequins 😆

Leo Cap

i'm glad you share my distaste for bad exposition, haha. the "show, don't tell" rule is a big one for me -- there's a lot of that in this series, but it's honestly kinda charming that being said, in an episode about alien bug-fish refugees, I think having Calvierri monologue to the doctor about her backstory and her plans was a big time-saver. it is pretty funny though how literally every villain is willing to monologue their whole plan (i.e. Victory of the Daleks)

Merkavar

The "all i can hear is silence" line always feels clunky to me, like they were really trying to force the word silence in there, when saying something like "I cant hear anything" would have sounded much more natural

Lee

Toby Whithouse previously wrote "School Reunion," in which Sarah Jane and K-9 first appeared in modern Who. In my opinion, that was his peak and everything that follows is subpar. When you see his credit going forward, lowering your expectations is a safe choice.

Idk why, maybe it's because I relate to the socially awkwardness of 11th, but the “You're lucky she's a great kisser... Funny how you can say something in your and it sounds fine.” is just my favorite underrated line that probably everyone forgets because it's not memorable to anyone but me. Also, Rory's “The only thing I've seen uglier on you is your mum” Is another underrated line in my opinion. It's not my favorite episode but I just like the dorkiness of it all.

Rory's on the TARDIS, hooray! I like the "mythical monster, but actually an alien" concept to pop up now and then; Rose and Ten had Tooth & Claw, though that played the werewolf straight but gave it an extraterrestrial origin, this one goes the other way with actual aliens whose racial and technological idiosyncrasies happen to align with folklore. (Or inspired it? Wibbiy Wobbly Dwane Dibbley Timey Wimey) Matt continues to kill it; His Doctor is just a relaxed and groovy, if somewhat socially oblivious, young-seeming dude just tooling around space and time having fun solving puzzles and solving mysteries, and maybe trying to help out along the way if someone's in trouble – but then there are those moments when he gets serious and we're reminded that he's over 900 years old, and he has seen so much... Lost so much.... Anyway, yeah there are flaws in the episode as pointed out –(Where did Amy get sunlight from when the sky was covered with storm clouds? Why were all the converted girls sent to attack the shipwright's home instead of the dude with 10,000 brothers ready to take his place? How were the girls floating outside the window? And why didn't The Doctor notice that the throne was an advanced technological control device when he was lounging in it earlier?)– plus the continued gender dynamics that were kinda cringe back when it first aired and haven't improved with age, but it's a fun romp. I too hope there's not a bunch of "love triangle" stuff in the next episode.

Billevity

This is definitely my least favorite episode this season. The sci-fi felt a lot more fi than sci for my tastes, and it has a lot of Moffat's weird writing when it comes to women that just doesn't feel great in retrospect.

Maerandir Eldar

This is probably the only episode in all of the Eleven/Amy period I don't really like, and I generally skip it on my annual 11th Doctor watch-thru, along with the whale episode, which I don't hate but just feels un-needed. Everything else is golden. =) *EDIT* - Okay, so I watched it anyway. It's... nowhere near as bad as I somehow remembered it. I'm not huge on the direction, and the effects are some of if not THE worst of the season, but Matt Smith keeps the pacing acceptable, and his delivery is never anything but spectacular. It just feels out of place when compared to the previous two episodes... almost as if it's partially pulled out of Eccleston's run.

Ben “Bentendo” Dawson

Episode one of this season with Prisoner Zero in the hospital... "Silence Doctor, silence will fall..." Also, glad you and your other half appreciated the Power Rangers link. ;)
