Craig

Ah yes, a relatively early appearance of James Cordon before he went to become a beloved staple of the international culture

Cross Hatched95

Your reaction to James, is my exact reactions to any mention of him in doctor who. I really hate him tbh. Shame they put him in this

Craig

Matt Smith was very nearly a professional soccer player before an injury moved him into acting

Jake Beaumont

A lot of reactors say "just call the police" but I've always found that strange... Immediately jumping to calling emergency services without knowledge just because someone's asking for help. Screaming for help maybe, but not just general asking. But I guess a side effect of knowing were watching a sci fi show with alien threats.

stephen Hopkinson

this episode was going to be a story with micky in David Tennent run

James_Luigi

I think this was right about the time James Cordon became pretty despised.

Josef Schiltz

Angela. A little aside that Matt Smith was going to be a pro footballer before an injury put paid to his hopes. A drama teacher told him that he should turn to acting. He was very persuasive!

Howie

Saw this episode when it was first released in 2010. I think that's 5 years before James Corden got his late show gig. Being an American and living in the US, this was the first time I ever saw him. So when he started hosting late night, my reaction was, "oh it's the dude from Doctor Who!"

Ben

Not quite, it was based on a comic strip from Doctor Who magazine that featured 10 and Mickey.

Michael

I didn't care for James Corden as a talk show host, which came after this episode of Doctor Who, but I did like him in Gavin and Stacey - a British TV show.

demonic-myst

this is just after he became famous , he bec ame fmous for gavin and stacy which aired between 2007-200120 this episode was in 2010

Steven Lowdon

Correct - “Ugh” is the correct reaction to James Codron 😂

Van Evans

Personally I find long running talk show hosts comforting. You see them every night, following the same routine over and over. Like Mr. Roger's for adults. I'm definitely not a James Cordon fan though.

Fyrealis

I always understood the previous tennant was bribed to leave anonymously by the Doctor so he could take the room instead. He landed into a lot of money and left and the Doctor just says "Yes, convenient." like it's something he could have easily done himself.

Josef Schiltz

James Cordon took over from Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show back in 2015. That's when I stopped watching. Previous to that though, there are some marvellous interviews with Karen Gillan and Matt Smith with Craig. Karen, being the genius she is, killed the awkward pauses.

demonic-myst

james began acting in musicals in 1996 then went to tv host where he interviews meatloaf the singer , he then stared in my fat friends 2000 - 2005 then he cowrote and stared in gavin and stacy he tends do comedic roles he stard in alot of comedies before he jumped ship top be a host in america

James Saunders

JC. We were kind of hoping you’d keep him over there. He has a rep for being a bit rude and dismissive.

Josef Schiltz

Academy students on Gallifrey would make up these odd looking devices which had particular molecular bonds that would act as time-space disruptors to run riot with other students time experiments. Never try block transfer telepathy. It tends to give one a bit of a headache!

Jedi Beavis

Thank you for your disdain for James Cordin. He ruined the Friends reunion show for me.

Jason

Oddest thing about this episode for me when I see anyone from across the Pond reacting to it, is why cant they say Craig? Why do they stick an 'e' in the middle? Creig. Whats going on? Its weird! :)

Josef Schiltz

Craig Ferguson had a go at that odd pronunciation of his name on the Late Late Show before James Cordon took the show over.

AnastasiyaK

I think Matt and James have good chemistry in this episode. I saw this for the first time over 12 years ago and I really enjoyed these two together, in what is a silly, weird, kinda kooky episode. But this episode of Doctor Who is as far as my like for James Corden goes. I still enjoy it sometimes, but it’s mostly nostalgia of before when he was still somewhat like-able. Really love Matt in this episode though, he never misses.

Leo Cap

while not my favorite episode, I like that it was more focused on the Doctor. while he obviously has been his lovable self in between adventures throughout the season, this episode brings him more to the forefront. it's unfortunate that the resolution to the mystery was soooo stupid, reminiscent of the forced emotion in "Victory of the Daleks". at least this time they established Craig & Sophie from the very beginning, but it just seemed like such a silly solution

funnylilgalreacts

I agree. The story was more about Craig and Sophie and "what the Doctor would be like trying to live a normal life" that the big bad upstairs was a tertiary story and the wrap up was fine, not great or even good.

funnylilgalreacts

I think it's that lack of feeling genuine. I like Kimmel and Seth Myers and LOVE Stephen Colbert. But Fallon and Cordon feel fake to me.

funnylilgalreacts

well as much as it would have delighted him to be a pro footballer, thankfully it went the way it did.

funnylilgalreacts

Women probably say call the police, or even medics, we don't go into a strangers house even if they need help. Heck even going to a neighbor first would have been a better idea than just wandering in.

Alex

James Corden is a great comedic actor, a terrible stand-up, and an awful human being. In shows like this he's weirdly charming, but in real life everyone hates him

Van Evans

I agree. My favorite was always Craig Ferguson.

Jeff Ratcliff

Fallon reminds me of Huell Howser of "California's Gold" in his unbridled enthusiasm for things or guests that weren't all the great. But somehow Howser never really came across as insincere. I miss him.

Michael Jones

Matt Smith’s Doctor is such an odd character. It’s hard to imagine any version of the Doctor trying to pretend to be a normal person for a few days, but this incarnation is strange even for the Doctor’s standards. He seems to be the one least suited to fitting in.

Jody G Money

"I really liked watching the Doctor take a shower". Quite the word choice, there.

Ben

I don't think its fair to call him an awful human being. Yes, he has a habit of making an arse of himself but there are alot of famous people who are so much worse/have done so much worse than him.

Robert A.

Random Jimmy Fallon story: Once on his Late Night show he had a reunion of the surviving members of Monty Python, and they figured out right away that he was no good as an interviewer...at one point, trying to get back to his list of prepared questions, Fallon asked the Pythons if there was ever a point when they felt sure that the show wasn't going to work. Without missing a beat, Eric Idle said, "about two minutes into your monologue."

Drake

i have to say i rly like James Corden in every british tv show he was ever in xD he might have been a shitty late host in usa but as a british actor he was rly funny

Craig

The same thing happened in "School Reunion" when the Doctor picked up his teacher job because his predecessor won a lottery they Never played

Fyrealis

Omg yes of course! 😂

Jody G Money

I feel where you're coming from. I can't remember the specifics about it, but Dave Chapelle had a bit in his standup from years ago where he would talk about what Hollywood can do to people. Like taking the most down-to-earth person you know and get them twisted up in all sorts of stuff you'd never swear a person like that could get involved with. Like there's a toll that life can take on a human soul or psyche. I'm not trying to make excuses for Corden at all, but I always think of that monologue whenever I feel indulged to judge celebrities by their worst moment.

Calypso Lucia

james cordon is annoying and a bad host but a great comedic actor and writer!! gavin and stacey, a show he wrote and acted in with Ruth Jones is a (rare) british treasure

Daniel Osorio

Fun fact Matt Smith was a professional skilled footballer who played in college at high level and was super excited to film this episode because he got to show off his football skills.

D

The American pronunciation of Craig is Creg

Josef Schiltz

Meanwhile, in a space-time that have no meaning within the ongoing narrative, there is a meeting between a certain Vulcan and Wednesday Addams. Scene introduces with: A closed door with a sign that reads 'Psychologically evaluative experiment In progress. Disturbance may prove unnerving. It is written over in thick black marker "GO AWAY!" Participants: Ambassador Spock. Wednesday Addams. The door slides open slightly and Thing scuttles quickly inside. Interior: Spock and Wednesday are standing across the room from each other. In the room's exact centre is a plinth upon which is placed a big red button. Next to that is a plate of cookies. Needless to say, both untouched. Wednesday: (glaring) We must get this over with. I, for one, would like to know who it was that put us up to this meeting! There will be consequences and I am not above breaking a few fingers. I smell bergamot behind this. - Thing scuttles and hides behind a box of tricorders- Spock: (Standing with arms behind his back, observing Wednesday in somewhat perplexed fascination) There was an ad on Starfleet Media Live explaining the situation regarding "an impossible child, an outcast, who cannot fit into societal norms and has ongoing parental difficulties" which reminded me of my own upbringing on Vulcan. That small detail aside, from what I have read, your assessment of your ongoing situation remains somewhat illogical. The probability of your self-inflicted discomfort leading to any useful outcome is exceedingly low. Wednesday: Precisely. Discomfort is the natural state of being. To embrace it is to face reality. Your futile attempts to find logic in a world steeped in chaos are far more illogical than any torment I might devise. Spock: Mm. Chaos is merely a lack of understanding of the underlying order. Your assertion that "reality" is defined by discomfort suggests a severely skewed perception. Wednesday: My perception is far more grounded than yours. I find solace in the grave and despair in joy. What could be more real? Spock: The pursuit of knowledge and understanding. The preservation of life. Wednesday: Life is a prelude to death, an unpleasant experience one endures. To live is to prepare for its inevitable end. Your veneration of it is… peculiar. Spock: It is the primary directive of my people to preserve and protect it, as life is the ultimate expression of a complex biological and intellectual system. To dismiss it as "unpleasant" is a waste of a valuable and extremely rare opportunity. Wednesday: A fleeting opportunity for suffering. Perhaps you would benefit from a more thorough study of mortality. . . . I can provide excellent reading material. My family owns several mortuaries. Spock: (Raises an eyebrow slightly) But I am already familiar with the biological processes of life and death. However, your emotional investment in them, while a fascinating study in human - or Addams - psychology, is not conducive to logical or indeed emotional progress. Wednesday: Emotions are a weakness to be exploited. Logic is a tool. I prefer to operate with a complete lack of sentiment. Now, if you'll excuse me, I believe I was on my way to a dissection lab. Spock: And I on my way to a seminar on interspecies mating rituals. I wish you long life. Wednesday: We must do this again. I would like a piercing insight into your perspective on death after life and then life again. The possibility of hearing of your unending suffering and frustration . . . intrigues me. I am sure I would find it . . fascinating. Spock pauses on his way out. Both eyebrows raised. . . . An interestingly depressing specimen of humanity.

Brittany Allison

No. Your opinion of James corden is super fair. He kinda sucks. Do love his character here though
