FULL LENGTH REACTION

I had the same reaction when I saw James Corden because I found him annoying, and apparently, he's a total jerk in real life, but I really like his character in this episode. I'm probably in the minority but I really enjoy this episode because I like seeing The Doctor interacting with humans who know nothing about him. I like the slice of life of it all. Also, I like some of the stories that involve aliens trying to act human and they end up helping the humans around them. One of my favorite cliches.

The History Boys is good. His sitcom Gavin and Stacey is good. I think James Corden missed the mark as a talk show host because he’s an actor not a comedian. Totally different skill set. He could act like a comedian but it feels disingenuous. There was birdsong after they all ran out of the house.

Nathan Jasper

You should check out Into the Woods. Corden was really good in that. Corden's dad was a musician in the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, which is probably where Corden got his talent. He started on stage in 1996 when he was 18 and started TV appearances in 1999. Just slowly gained popularity over time on both the stage and TV.

The last time that the doctor telepathically linked with a human was in Season 2 Girl in the fireplace. David Tennant era I think

James Cordon is pretty alright in this episode, in other stuff I can kinda see why might be "Ugh... this guy" there's been a lot of different talk shows in both UK and US, they sort of crossover parallels with one another. James Cordon is an actor, comedian, writer, producer, singer and TV host, he's been in a dozen many things. I'd say this was a pretty fun episode it feels kind of off-the-rails but in a good way. The behind the scenes on this episode is pretty funny, because apparently Matt isn't a good footballer.

This episode is a great bit of fun to follow the last two emotional ones, definitely enjoy it. And Corden is apparently not the nicest guy in real life, but he is pretty good in this imo and yes, he was hugely popular here when this aired before he went to the USA and public opinion soured. The sitcom he co-wrote with Ruth Jones (Gavin and Stacey), was one of the most popular shows in the UK in the 00's. It had a 17 years later reunion/finale over xmas last year and it was the most watched TV episode here since 2002 which in the age of streaming is quite the achievement. So he is not without his merits!

tbh James Corden was a good addition to this episode. I don't know anything about celebrity culture or drama, so I can't speak on that, but he did a great job as Craig

funnylilgalreacts

Even not liking him I still liked Craig so that says something about his acting ability

Nathan Jasper

He was accused of being a jerk one time and he apologized both personally and publicly for it

Say what now? Matt isn't a good footballer? He was good enough to play professionally and only turned to acting because an injury put paid to that plan...

LatePaul

Matt Smith almost became a professional footballer but his career was cut short because of an injury.

Cleverusernamed97

Idk I've heard multiple times he was a bit of a jerk to his crew, fans, and restaurant servers. Call me a cynic, but I have some doubts about how genuine his apology was. Maybe he's changed, and if so, good. But his public personality is not for me and the only thing I ever enjoyed him in is Doctor Who.

Mark McKeown

James always gets a bad rap, but I quite enjoy his comedy. He wrote and starred in a great show, Gavin & Stacey, and I thought he brought something pretty special and unique to his late night show. It seems like it's almost a trend to dislike him, especially in the UK.

Martin

James was initially famous in the UK for co writing and starring in a comedy called 'Gavin and Stacey', he was known as a comedian here so we were surprised as you when he became a chat show host in America... Matt Smith, in another timeline, would have been a professional footballer! An injury stopped his career sadly but without that injury we don't get him as the Doctor ... but yeah I feel like that part was included just for him :) As a stand alone episode it's great, hits all the points it kinda needs too really, just a fun watch.

John

I love the theme with the crack in the wall. We don't know what or why but we do know somehow something is connecting these episodes. It's nice when there's some overarching story and not just a bunch of bottle episodes.

Dani

This was a fun episode and definitely needed after the heaviness of the last few.

Lintrinsic

He's been described as a jerk many times by audience members on League of the their own and someone who IIRC directed a segment (a sports quiz show he hosted in the UK) and there's other reports of him being obnoxious in restaurants than the one that blew up on social media. He's also bad mouthed production's he's been involved with in interviews with the press.

Ash Davis

The next five episodes all have the same writer and the same director! The Moff himself writing of course, and the director is named Toby Haynes! If you love the visual style of the next few episodes, I HIGHLY recommend Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell! Toby Haynes directs every episode and it’s also written by a Doctor Who alum writer, Peter Harness, but we haven’t gotten to his episodes yet! It’s set during the Napoleonic Wars, and it centers around the last two practitioners of English Magic who could not be more different from each other. It’s very Terry Pratchett meets Jane Austen

Jack Mingle

Corden's older stuff is definitely better and him at his most likeable.

J.W. Moore

Craig is my 2nd favorite non-companion companion. Wilf will always be #1.

Carl Wilson

This has always been one of my favourite comic episodes, and the romance is very sweet. It was probably helpful that I had no idea who James Corden was at the time, but I liked him in this and it made me give him a chance on his talk show for awhile. But we also really needed the comic relief at this point, after both Rory and Vincent, right?

Peter Powis

Ditto/ That's what I thought about this episode and also James Corden

Peter Powis

A great fun episode after losing Rory and the emotional Vincent episode! Loved all the characters

Lee

Funny how so many commenters are coming after James Corden (and not without reason), but he isn't nearly as horrible as Gareth Roberts, who wrote this episode.

JMonkey10

if you enjoyed James' performance, I think you'd like Gavin and Stacey, a brilliant show from here, Britain. written by James and an actress from the show. It's full of laughs and love and tears
