Just need to point out that the real people in the end credits are not the movie voices; either speaking or singing. They're members of the K-Pop group Twice and only did the end credit version of Takedown. The versions used in different parts of the movie were done by the regular singing actors EJAE(Rumi), Audrey Nuna(Mira), and Rei Ami(Zoey). Twice is also referenced a few other times in the movie, and one of their songs(Strategy) was used in one scene. Also, the tiger is named Derpy and the magpie is named Sussie.

Huzzah!! So glad you reacted to this ^.^ All the main songs from the sound track have charted somewhere in the top 30 or top 20 in the US since the movie came out, and "Golden" just hit #1 on the billboards last week!

Derpy Cat is my favourite (and Zoey because the goblin energy is strong!) I love the fact that Derpy and Sussie are clearly not Demons, they are able to bounce on the Honmoon and I dont think people would make statues of Demons outside their houses. My theory is that the reason the cat needs to pick everything up that falls over is because he is driven to Right things which is why they are helping Jinwoo as he can be saved. Soda Pop is such a great summer song and has been my favourite choice for when i am walking to work in the sun. Golden is probably my favourite though

Watched this randomly on a Saturday a month and a half ago. I have no idea what they put in this movie or the soundtrack but I’ve been obsessed ever since. I basically haven’t heard any music that isn’t on the soundtrack in that amount of time. How It’s Done and This is What It Sounds Like go unbelievably hard on the treadmill. Been single handedly keeping the honmoon sealed over my planet fitness lol

Oh, I love both of them. Though I feel the magpie is a little underappreciated. I love the expression of utter exasperation when Derpy knocks over the flower pot the final time. Or the smug little grin when Jinu explains to Rumi that the hat was meant for Derpy but Sussie keeps stealing it. :) But the names are official from the writer/director. Like the looks of the demons and the clothing of the historical singers/hunters, Derpy and Sussie are based on Korean culture. In the 1800s, folk artists used the combination of the tiger and magpie for social/political satire. The tiger represented the aristocracy, while the magpie represented the commoners. There was a lot of tension at the time, so the tiger was often drawn as stupid or foolish. Thus, Derpy.

Just to expand on this. Golden is the first time a KPop band has topped the Billboard Hot 100, and the first time an all women group has done it since Destiny’s Child back in the day. The whole soundtrack is soooooo good.

From the sounds of it, this movie was such an unexpected hit that that Sony/Netflix are already talking to the creatives about making more 👀 As for Jinu, i think there is a chance his soul is in her sword now, so there is a chance he could return in the future!

Loves all the songs, the full playlist has been playing nonstop on my drive to work everyday since I seen this. IF I had to pick one Takedown, my favorite character is Zoey! Can't wait to see it in on the big screen on the 23th and 24th, singalong version! Might of got a Bobby costume together. :P There's 2 versions of Takedown, one sang by the singers for the movie and one sang by three members of TWICE (Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung). In the movie, it's the singers, Twice's version is only used in the end credits as they showed it. And this video https://youtu.be/l8Dr7vzMSVE?si=H8hCowFIH568R3lo Plus as a fan of mythology was cool seeing some Korean folklore. And there were alot of nods to Korean folklore. Some historical context for Jinu's betrayal of his family, 400 years ago, commoners weren't allowed in the palace courts, however musicians were. So when he was invited to join the palace you can see him leading his family into it, but they are stopped by the guards. They weren't allowed in and if Jinu tried to leave he would be defying the king's choice at the time and would have been charged for treason and would have gotten his family killed or imprisoned. It's why you see the mom holding back the sister because she understands that Jinu was forced to leave them. Several things I would love to share: 1. The shaman women you see in the more ancient times are called Moodang, and serve as spiritual mediums for contacting spirits and warding off evil. 2. Rumi's sword is a Sa-in Geom (Four Tiger Sword), a ritualistic sword forged in the Hour of the tiger, in the day of the tiger, in the month of the tiger, on the year of the tiger. Tigers were seen as divine beasts, and was thought to channel the energy of the Tiger into a sword used in rituals to ward off evil. 3. Mira's Glaive is called a Gaya Gokdo (Gaya Curved Blade). Gaya was a Kingdom that was in the South western area of the Korean Peninsula. 4. Zoey's blades are called Shin-kal (Divine knives). These blades the size of kitchen knives are used in Shaman rituals for various uses. 5. Saja boys is a Korean pun, as the word Saja is a homonym of both Lion and a psychopomp like the grim reaper in Korean. The black traditional outfit the Saja wear are the same outfit Juhsung Saja are described to be in. 6. While not explicitly named, a lot of the demons shown are those that appear in Korean folklore, like the Dokkaebi wielding clubs, the water dwelling Mulguishin (souls of drowned victims that become ghosts determined to share their fate by drowning others with them), and Mongdal Guishin (The faceless guishin). 7. The tiger and magpie are an homage to a popular Korean art motif called a Hojakdo, which showcase a derpy looking tiger and a magpie. Tigers as I said are regarded as divine beasts, and magpies are regarded as omens of good news and welcome guests. As such, the art are used as wards against evil and a magnet for good luck in a household.

I’m so happy you watched this movie. If you want to get into K-pop I recommend my favorite group Mamamoo. Favorite character is definitely the cat and my favorite song is Free that duo killed it.

Such a great surprise. I turned this on thinking I'd get a few laughs out of how dumb it was and ended up loving it. I'd like to see more, but I'm worried they won't be able to keep the quality this high. Way things are going there will probably be a terrible live action remakes before long

Just so you know, I've been following you on YT for years now, but I joined your Patreon just because of this reaction haha.. By far my favourite film of this year. If you are really up for "expanding your horizons" with subtitled stuff, I would really suggest trying couple of K-dramas, I think it would be right up your alley, you'd be laughing, crying and gasping all the time. My personal recommendation would be Alchemy of Souls on Netflix (as I believe it's a great "gateway" K-drama for western audience).

Such a good movie! As a Korean, it made me so happy to finally see a Korean centered animated film. I want more like this! My favorite songs would probably be Golden, Free and This is What it Sounds Like.

I’ve been watching so many reaction videos for this that I’m going to have to watch yours again. Aww shucks. 😁 My favorite songs have been changing from this. It used to be Golden. Then it was How It’s Done. What It Sounds Like is my favorite to watch in the show because of the emotional impact the visuals have on me. But Free is emerging as my #1 for some sappy reason. Soda Pop just creeps me out because I feel like they’re talking in metaphors about drinking souls and people are the cans. Alternately Your Idol is a banger because they’re upfront with their intentions. No more need to hide.

Pretty sure the 3hour thing is some random online rumor with no truth, the director has said on record that they believe movies in general are best when they are 90-120 minutes so the 3hr thing makes no sense.

I know this is a few weeks old, but thank you for pointing out the parts about Jinu's situation. So many reactors don't realize the entire situation and it always breaks my heart to see them judge him harshly after the reveal about his lie. She didn't do that here, but others have and it always bothers me. I wish the writers had expanded a little further on his situation. Jinu is a victim of Gwi'ma. He got tricked into a faustian deal, and then for 400 years was gaslit into believing that he abandoned his family when in reality he was manipulated into a situation where he was forced into losing them. I don't even blame him for betraying Rumi. He knew her for about 2 weeks and only really interacted with her for a few hours and as much as he wanted to believe her that he could be better and regardless of how much he had grown to care about her, he has CENTURIES of Gwi'ma in his head weaponizing his own self-hatred against him. He briefly felt hope with Rumi and then was instantly reminded that he is Gwi'ma's prisoner and has nothing but pain to look forward to FORVER unless he does as he's told.

Love this movie so much! Yes part 2 has been given the go ahead. The Tiger's name is Derpy and they have a pop figure of him and comes with the bird and the pot. The black hats are called a Gat. Saja means Lion.
