Loving your reactions. The second half of this episode is probably my favourite piece of AoT up to this point. It is so well written and performed. It hits hard, and having seen the whole of AoT now, it hits even harder. A couple of points: I think you should rewatch the Marco flashback scene very carefully. I won't say any more because spoilers. In the original Japanese it is clear that when Eren says 'Monkey?' he's never even heard the word before - as monkeys don't exist within the walls, so he has no conception of what one is. Also: Reiner rhymes with liner and diner and miner . ;-) Can't wait for more!

Hmm... you mentioned the can of herring, herring is a saltwater/ sea fish. and in the first season Armin and Erin talked about the sea as if it was some kind of weird outlandish concept.

Great catch regarding Ymir during Ilsa's Notebook! This is why true fans of AoT watch the OAVs. And good on you for remembering the canned food language. Are we incorporating Little Mermaid songs into AoT theories now? So this is one of my lowkey favorite episodes on Season 2. As a former mental heath professional, I'm both fascinated and heartbroken by Reiner's split and it made me empathize for him. The only way for him to cope with all the death he and Bertholdt was to dissociate. There was a part of him that was a scout, wanted to protect his mates, and marry Christa. With regards of the story, more morsels of info was revealed but at the same time, so much kept back to keep you in suspense. Btw, this was one of the few episodes where I feel the subtitles were much better. A lot was lost in translation. I think many have already mentioned the bit about the monkey and how it was an unknown word.
