Howie

Really enjoyed re-watching this with you. Wow, forgot how many reveals there were in this episode. Given what you saw, you are asking some darn good questions. Obviously, you are much further ahead now so you probably know how good your questions were in hindsight. Have you started Season 3 yet?

I love how AOT gets peoples' noggins joggin'.

I'd also like to point out that Hannes is an MP. Not a Scout. Flying around outside of civilization like this isn't really what he's trained for. He barely even sees titans like the Scouts do. He's just doing it for Eren and I think that's so cool that he's just casually keeping up with an elite scout squad like this.

Hannes is a member of the Garrison Regiment, not an MP

You probably missed that little detail during that scene with Yamir and those other people being thrown off the wall, that they injected something into them before being thrown off the wall causing them to turn into titans.

My understanding was that the Garrison Reigment is part of the MP's as in "military police". Regardless my point still stands he's not trained for all this

Jacob Lagasse

The Garrison, the soldiers with the roses on their shirts, are not part of the military police. The MPs have the unicorn on their shirts. All soldiers are trained to fight titans. We literally saw this in season 1 episode 3. If you can't use ODM gear you're kicked out of the military and go work the fields. Now soldiers who regularly fight titans, like the scouts, are more experienced than others like those in the Garrison or MPs, but they are ALL trained to fight titans.

But their roles and experience differ significantly. The Garrison is primarily responsible for defending human settlements, maintaining walls, and protecting civilians; they are trained to handle Titans but usually operate within the walls around buildings and are less experienced in high-risk, open-field combat. The Scouts however, specialize in venturing outside the walls to fight Titans in the wild, conduct reconnaissance, and lead offensive missions. While yes, basic training is the same, Scouts receive the most rigorous combat training, have extensive field experience, and rely heavily on advanced maneuvering and teamwork that they're taught OUTSIDE of basic training. So it's cool that Hannes can join the scouts on this mission and keep up because he doesn't have the training that the Scouts do. Now please stop replying to my comment everyone. This really isn't that deep.
