After rewatching with you, from what he shared to his former squad-mates, even though he seems cold and unfeeling Bertholdt is more grounded and has stronger grasp of reality than Reiner. Seeing him struggle with what Jean and Connie were saying to him, yeah it's believable that he didn't choose this life and being a scout was an escape from reality (which is why Reiner broke). Regarding Ymir, all will be explained... This is the episode where Ervin forever cemented himself as a great leader and bada$$. "ADVANCE!!!" I always felt the Japanese version was more intense though. Looking forward to the season finale this Thursday!

The part you like in the intro "shinzo wo sasegayo" means "dedicate your heart" which is the something the scouts say a lot in the japanese dub. I think in the english dub it's been translated as "your heart and soul to the cause"

To answer your wrap up questions: The episode was stellar, answered some questions, left a lot more to be answered in their wake. Armin is a master of psychological warfare. You give him anything to go on, and he'll exploit it. War is hell, and in order to destroy monsters, we must sometimes become monsters ourselves. I, for one, since you asked, believed Ymir implicitly the first time I watched this. She hasn't lied to Historia yet, and with how complex their relationship is, I didn't have any reason to believe that she'd start then and there. I can't logic together how Ymir lying to Historia would help either party regardless. Thanks for the laughs and entertainment. Ten bucks a month well spent.

Yes, season 2 seems short. But think of it this way - we're 11 episodes in and we're only on the second day, if I'm remembering correctly. Season 1 covered 5 years?

That’s how they say it in the show but that’s not what the subtitles look like. It’s kinda not fair that they’re not saying it that way, but I’m expected to say it that way.

Japanese dubs do say Rey-nah which is how it its suppose to be pronounced
