FULL LENGTH REACTION

That different intro really makes it difficult to sync, not impossible just trial and error

Nathan Jasper

MIIIIIIIISTER CROWLEYYY Mark Sheppard just blends into anything, doesn't he? The High Evolutionary, Crowley, and Richard Nixon walk into the oval office... maybe one day I'll figure out the rest of the joke LOL

Rach

This is maybe my favourite season opener. As much as I love the light hearted episodes we usually get, starting on a shocking mystery is cool way to set the tone for the season. NuWho was far enough into it's run and popular enough at that point (This was the height of it's international popularity, iirc, hence America featuring) that it doesn't need restrain itself and ease the viewer in any more for fear of putting them off.

Ben

I did ask Angela a while ago to include a bit of the title sequence in the footage to make syncing easier for people in the UK, has this not been done? (Haven't been able to watch the reaction yet)

OfficiallyGames

Yeah just took a lot of stopping and starting to get the timing right since the onscreen timer ends up being useless due to being so out of sync.

Rach

It has yeah, the preview comes back in at the start of the title sequence

Leo Cap

I'm bummed that you felt attacked over the dream thing -- you've said before that certain fanbases (i.e. Vox Machina) have been very helpful and without judgement in moments of confusion, and that should definitely be our job too I do think being as far ahead on your release schedule as you are sometimes results in a barrage of repetitive comments over something getting missed 😅 but if spoilers are historically the biggest concern in here then I definitely understand why it has to stay that way I feel like I should also mention (no spoilers) that this season doesn't get any less convoluted than S5. there's still a lot going on, if not more. the frustration you felt at the end of this episode probably won't be a one-off 😂 but there's plenty of payoff too

Robin Roberts

Thank you as always for your reaction. I have never seen your so flummoxed. Your flumm was definitely oxed . I'm so glad that you watched the little websodes. A glass floor and a short skirt is just a catastrophe waiting to happen.😀😀

Frank (MetronV) Izzy

Don't apologize for losing your shit. Just imagine this being when it first aired. :)

Merkavar

Was there some sort of jump cut in the intro?

Sorcerer Rumburak

Of course it confuses me - especially back in time there were no season 7. 🤷‍♂️ And: You know by now that episode 2 gets you no answer to the big question. And: You know - the death of the doctor ist a fixpoint on his timline now. It must must happen. 🤔

SparkySharky

Ayyy, welcome to season 6! And yeah, the episode is 100% meant to be baffling. Really glad you decided to watch the second part right after the first due to just how bonkers it all is.

Ash Davis

Knowing the secret service agent was played Chukwudi in retrospect is so freaking cool! Murn/High Evolutionary in Doctor Who! Hopefully he will also be Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow

Jay Willis

Had to buy Season 6 on Prime just to watch this season with you. :) My favorite season.

Frank (MetronV) Izzy

Oh, I had to check! Yeah William Morgan Sheppard is Mark Sheppard's father!

James Fleischman

The original BBC episode: "In Memory of Elisabeth Sladen 1948 - 2011"

Gallows Girl Amy

It it's any consolation I always think of Mark Sheppard as Badger from Firefly rather than Supernatural like everybody else. And yes that's Mark Sheppard's dad. Also an actor for many years from classic movies like Hawk the Slayer (so bad it's brilliant) and a guest star in Babylon 5 and lots of other TV Shows. It was Mark's suggestion to cast him.

Merkavar

"Who does the doctor trust the most" *doctor appears on screen* Then she spends the episode trying to work out who sent the letters :D

funnylilgalreacts

I thought I was doing a good job of giving my thoughts or where I thought the story was going. Felt like I got in trouble.

Merkavar

We did, a 200 years younger doctor :P

Leo Cap

I think you're just VERY observant! I wouldn't have thought about the recurring bird thing in a million years That's the trick with this show -- it throws a bunch of absurd things at you, only a handful of which will be extremely important, but not until like 170 episodes later. Very hard to gauge, and potentially offputting for someone like yourself with such a keen eye Your head was in the right place! especially now that we're leaning so heavily into fantasy territory. the big theme of the season was "memories", which frankly is just one step away from dreams

Sorcerer Rumburak

Oh! Angela - maybe - maybe not - every seriously response on that would be a spoiler. All I can say is that I overlooked various little details when I first watched it — just like when I first watched The Sixth Sense. But do yourself a favor and don't go on a kind of “dogged search for clues”... That kind of takes away from the fun — and you'll hear "birds chirping", figuratively speaking. 😉

James Fleischman

I absolutely appreciate your thoughts even when they go off course

Ben

Fun fact, I've eaten at the American Diner that is featured in this episode (it's actually in Cardiff, not America), although, I didn't realise until a few months later when I was rewatching this episode!

Cleverusernamed97

Thank you for saying Murn. I was trying my hardest to place the actor, but I couldn't, and it probably would have bothered me if I couldn't figure it out.

Annicus the Wise

hh the video doesn't work again because it is YT embedded and i am using VPN to watch the show.. can somebody send a direct link or sth? i cleared cache but didn't work

Ben “Bentendo” Dawson

This is the year Moffat took the training wheels off the bike and makes you think... preeeety much the entire series! 😂 But it's a hell of a ride!

Brian Leonard

I watch on Blu-Ray in the US. I remember having issues keeping the blu-ray synced with other reactors, but I don't remember which seasons I had that problem with. Does anyone know if I have that problem here?

Tim C

So, the most important question asked from this episode: Stetson or fezz? Which do you choose? :D

Molly Campbell

I love this episode so much, but I enjoy angst-filled things, so I loved the beginning and, well, all of it. I can see how you'd be put off by it, though. I'm hoping once you saw the next episode that you enjoyed it a little more.

Alkaris

what happened in the beginning? the timer during the intro just reset?

Martin

I think pretty much everyone is confused at the end of the episode lol But isn't that the point? lol If a series is predictable then that's just boring, keep me guessing! Love this episode so much, what a banger way to kick off a new season! Also remember context of people who just saw it when it first aired, you know there's more Doctor's to come, when we watched it when it first aired we don't know! So a surprise regen tease scares the absolute shizzle out of us lol But yeah loved this episode then, still do now :)

Nathan Jasper

Okay Merk maybe ease up a bit, it's a first viewing.

Ejigantor

To me Mark Sheppard is always Jim Sterling - and Sterling never loses.

Peter Powis

I remember not really liking this episode and the next on first viewing. Having rewatched it several times I love it and think it's really clever! Season 6 is probably the most complicated Series ever of Dr Who!!

Ejigantor

This is another two-parter where I haven't waited a week between the episodes since it was originally broadcast. The episode didn't so much confuse me as intrigue me, because it's setting up so many things. Very cool concept of aliens you only remember when you can see them. That scene in the White House bathroom, in addition to demonstrating the concept, is also really creepy. "Why did you do that?" "Jooooooooy.... Her name was Joooooooooy" Ugh *shudder* That said, my reaction to the death was pretty similar - though containing far more profanity; I remember having to rewind it to catch dialogue I couldn't hear over my exclamations. I didn't catch the similarity to The Lodger craft my first time watching; I think I was too distracted by the aliens in the tunnel and the emotional talk between River and Rory the Roman. Very good episode - this is probably my favorite Matt Smith series, though I love his entire run. Really looking forward to next week.

Jack Mingle

I had that problem with my copies, doesn't stay synced to the Amazon version it seems at all, amazon one is faster.

Merkavar

Ease up on reacting to her reaction? Did I say something wrong?

John

Yeah, W. Morgan is Mark's father. You can't miss their voice.

V1rtu0u5

Rory is a cool dude =)

Fr. Brench

The Doctor Who Crisis Hotline, back then, was probably Live Journal discussion groups. How about that for a season opener? What a year that was!

funnylilgalreacts

There is an opening that’s on there that throws off Blu-ray and DVDs so he reset it from that point on

dean worrall

the youtube link says you don't have any content... ?

Joshua Brunt

She forgot to do the Christmas carol 😭

Ben L

No, it was the last episode of the previous season. Or rather the one between last season and this episode.

funnylilgalreacts

You would have to check on your end because it’s working for me

Jacob King

This one gets better in retrospect. After watching the Galifrey Gals River Song chronological reaction River’s worst day monologue hits hard.

Paulo

Yeah the first time I watched this episode I was reacting just like you I didn’t know what was going on, I think I ended up binge watching the whole season ina day. It was 2020 during COVID sooo it was videos games and shows I never watched.

AnastasiyaK

Don’t worry! We were all feeling just as perplexed, bamboozled, flummoxed, and every other synonym for confused when we watched this! But I love this season opener so much, so many great scenes and moments between characters and I love the addition of Canton. This season has a couple of my favorite Doctor Who episodes of all time so I’m super excited for the whole thing!! Have been looking forward to this since you started the show!!!

Lintrinsic

I tend to think of him as his character on Medium. It was very disturbing so that's probably why it stuck with me. I remember him popping up in Warehouse 13 too. I tend to think of actors for their more obscure performances. I've seen W Morgan Sheppard in everything over the years and he's been great in it all but I always think of him as Blank Reg from 20 Minutes into the Future/US Max Headroom.
