"REVERSE THE POLARITY OF THE NEUTRON FLOW" is a hilarious and underrated line 😂 great homage to Classic Who technobabble

I still remember seeing this cliffhanger when it aired. Must have been about 14. Absolutely wild, but what's cool is that the knowledge that it's coming adds a lot of flavour to a rewatch of the first 6 eps of this season.

Where is Amy? What's about her child? What's about the Silence? What's about the death of the doctor? Be patient - this rollcercoaster-ride is just accelerating! 😉

Frank (MetronV) Izzy

The gangers were no longer connected to their "pilots" and became autonomous after the event that gave them self-awareness and split them from their originals. That's why they didn't feel any of the injuries the originals sustained. Amy, however, was connected to her ganger, was piloting the flesh without realizing or being aware of her original body. That's why she was feeling the contractions (and nausea in earlier episodes). Little hints throughout the season so far that something was going on. When the Doctor dissolved her Flesh body, it tossed her awareness back to her original self.

"Would you like a Jelly Baby?" is a callback reference to the 3rd and 4th Doctor always having a bag of Jelly Babys.

Tim C

I believe the reference to previous events was where the Doctor said, "I've got to get to that cockrell before all hell breaks loose! I never thought I'd get to say that again." That's a reference all the way back to The Vampires of Venice!

isn't Rory technically not human though? he's over 2000 years old and a plastic duplicate....

Frank (MetronV) Izzy

I think Rory became human again after the universe was rebooted in The Big Bang.

James Fleischman

I'm pretty sure that no one guessed where this season was going with Amy. I sure didn't.

Martin

Some may or may not have guessed that the doctors switch but no one sees the ending coming, it's soooo good. So now we know the Doctor knew something was up for a while and why he kept scanning Amy, and we then know when he finds out what happened, in that scene were Amy sees eyepatch lady again and was explaining it to (we now know) ganger Doctor and the real one was staring horrified at the wall...that's when he had everything confirmed. Even without the amazing ending twist this two parter is really good and then add the last few minutes on and oh my god let's f'ing go lol

Martin

Also they missed a trick here, I know the doctors human name is always John Smith....but could they not have gone meta as hell and called him Matt Smith this episode lol

“I don’t like it when adventures happen offscreen. I don’t like it whatsoever” Angela. (Shhhhh nobody tell her about Big Finish Audio Stories 😂)

All of the actors in these two episodes delivered exquisite performances that allowed the nuanced themes to be properly showcased. For myself being a father of four daughters Karen’s delivery of the line “Doctor, I am frightened… I’m properly, properly scared” shreds heart strings every time. Matt can make bipolar character changes between the subject and predicate of a sentence so seamless he defines a new art-form.

Paulo

I love this show.

John

That was before the Doctor rebooted the universe, so it's not plastic Rory anymore.

Amy being a flesh was not on my BINGO card. But, it does explain why the TARDIS was reading Amy as both pregnant and not. So, she's likely been a ganger since the first time we saw the scanner showing her both pregnant and not pregnant.

Ejigantor

As I said last week, I absolutely love this two parter. The story is good, the performances are great, it's twisty and turny, and it raises some philosophical questions that are worth pondering about life and sentience and identity. I refer to them as Flesh People rather than humans, because they are Flesh, not human, but they are absolutely people. I figure the real Amy had to be present to get pregnant in the first place, so she was presumably taken and replaced sometime after the Christmas special - way back when she told The Doctor that she was pregnant, and then she wasn't anymore - that would be when it happened; when she wasn't anymore. I really like the little bit at the end where we see The Doctor already has the cure ready for the clot - and also has balloons for Adam, because he knew he was coming here and was ready to save the people. (In the timeline prior to his arrival, the groups likely fought and all died when the factory exploded, because they were only able to call for evac after The Doctors fixed the communicator so he could set up the holo call with Adam.) I guess this is technically a three parter, since this one ends with a "to be continued" but I never think of it that way (and didn't even remember it ended with those words) because this story is done. Of course the corporation won't care, but when they went through those doors we saw camera flashes and heard reporters asking questions - they aren't at corpo HQ to talk to the suits about what's going on, they're at corpo HQ to talk to the world about what's going on. And props for correctly identifying the lamaze instructions at the start of the first part.

I have to ask if is just me. Do all the reactions have 2 audio file that play at the same time? Every video I click on does the same thing. I have to either refresh it 4 or 5 times or just click the youtube link to watch them.

funnylilgalreacts

Oooohhhh geez that’s either well planned or Moffett was like yoink, taking that

Earthen

Season 5 Amy was the real Amy. She was abducted either before Episode 1 or between Episodes 1 and 2... Episode 2 was when she first started seeing the lady in the hatch with the patch, so I've always thought it was in the big 3 month gap between Eps 1 and 2. She was pregnant (but not showing or aware) in Ep 1. The Doctor even makes an off-hand comment about "putting on a few pounds", which at the time seemed like banter, but might have had a bit more meaning.

Dylan Humphries

Since Angela has almost certainly watched the next episode by now, I take solace in knowing her flumms are right back where they belong. It's quite a ride to the end of the season now.

Matthew Case

I always thought it happened in episode 2, when she gets locked in the room after seeing the picture of her holding a baby. But thinking now she actually sees the hatch before entering. Maybe it’s when she’s on the room full of silence and she screams and the scene cuts?

AnastasiyaK

Not the best two parter overall but I love this second part so much because I just love seeing two Matt Smiths on screen. He plays off himself so well 😆 and that ending is sooooooo good!!! I am so freaking excited for next weeks episode, I have literally been waiting for this moment since you started reacting to Doctor Who! I can’t believe it’s almost finally here!! 😭

Luka Poser

This is an episode with so much character work I obsess over: The interesting ways in which the Gangers diverge in experience from their originals and how that shapes them, similar to Innies/Outies. Human Cleeves’ insistence that the Gangers aren’t alive turns into a tired resignation in Ganger Cleeves who understands she was wrong, so much so that she yields control and lets Ganger Jenny lead the pack. Jennifer meanwhile seems to revel in a chance to redefine herself, and lash out in a way that compensates for Human Jennifer’s meekness. The way Rory gets to be the primary, proactive companion rather than reactive, and how he uncomfortably lets Jenny keep flirting with him. The way Amy is uniquely defensive over the idea of a “true Doctor” after seeing him die, and even darkly suggests that Ganger Doctor take his place at the Utah lake. The way the Doctor only went here to find out if a Flesh Amy is still a True Amy and to find out how to freaking MELT her. The way that Ganger Doctor was the calm and friendly one while Original Doctor was angry, volatile and downright scary all episode. It’s all so messy and awful and fun to think about!
