the interface's voice sounds very familiar... am I wrong in thinking it's the same voice as the face-statue in the Library?

Rory slow-mo smashing the Mona Lisa over the handbot's head is honestly one of his top 5 funniest moments

Luka Poser

It's actually Imelda Staunton, professor Umbridge herself!

We have a whole family of Waiters! This being so soon after the revelation that they never manage to save Melody before she grows up, also makes me think Old Amy wanted to stay out of guilt. She believes she deserves the same experience of abandonment that River did.

Did you ever have so much "I did not expect this!"-Moments in other series? That's why I love this show. I think Rory has the way better "From Zero to Hero"-Story than Mickey's was. The difference is: Rose loved the Doctor but Amy loves Rory. So what did I expect? 🤔

You mentioned you you haven’t the new jumangis, they are definitely worth watching, especially because it’s technically a Christmas movie

"This isn't fair, you're turning me into you." for me is one of the most powerful and eye opening lines of all of Doctor Who. The way companions change over time, becoming more like The Doctor and losing parts of themselves. Disregarding basic life saving measures like checking a newspaper for threats before going somewhere because The Doctor doesn't and they want to be more like him, act more like him, do things like him... the addictive but dangerous lifestyle everyone around him gravitates to.

...and I love that it's Rory that says it to The Doctor as he realises he's starting to make the same decisions, even if it's forced upon him just by travelling with him... Rory and Martha Jones... probably the two most self aware smartest companions ever.

I think the Doctor was remorseful and guilty for leaving old Amy even to the point he has to convince himself and Rory she's not real. He had to do what he had to do unfortunately. He's doctor who, not a miracle worker who. Lol

Amy & Rory... The Girl Who Waited and the Boy Who Waited... Together Forever.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungl‪e and The Next Level are definitely worth watching.

The Doctor always has to make the hard choices that nobody else can make, even if in hindsight it might seem cruel, two of the same person existing within the same time stream makes the universe unstable. Also while The Doctor may have visited many places in his many many lifetimes he doesn't always know everything about the places he visits, or what he's encountering, but is fast at developing an understanding of what, who and where he's at. Much like how he encountered that unknown creature on Midnight while Donna stayed at the resort, he didn't even know what it was, but was slowly turning people crazy when it starting mimicking other people. He didn't know about the circumstances that befell the people on Mars when they were being attacked by the water creatures that infected people, having only read an article that wasn't the full entire story of what actually happened, but then lets his god complex take over and altered that piece of history in how they died, or didn't, at least for the other crew that was there. I always see it like this; The Doctor can be both right and wrong at the same time given certain situations, he's not All-Knowing, even though he's like a walking encyclopedia on a lot of things, and can't see all possible futures of whats about to happen, but knows what can happen if allowed. Except for the few cases where he doesn't and is completely in the dark.

For this episode it isn't Doctor Who it's Amy & Rory's show! Karen and Arthur are outstanding in this episode, their chemistry is incredible and then add Matt Smith just nailing his side parts and it's just a really, really good episode. It's also a good exploration like you said how what kind of people they are all individually and the dynamic between that too, excellent stuff. Also add this one to the already heaving pile of episodes Murray Gold owns it with his music, that dude is a hero as well can we just say lol

This is my 2nd favourite episode of season 6! (unlike everybody else i imagine, the next episode, the God Complex is my favourite) The Girl Who Waited though is brilliantly acted and such good writing!! Meaningful on so many levels! Can't watch it without crying... btw, you'd love Jumanji! Karen is so good in it!

I really like this episode - it has timey wimey shenanigans, and hard hitting emotionality - some of my favourite things. I also like how limited it is; there's the computer interface and the robots, but there aren't any characters outside the principal cast. And all three of them really bring it - Karen brings it twice. And Matt's face when he said "Sometimes knowing is what allows you to change the future" - he found out about his death at the end of Let's Kill Hitler, and he at least strongly suspect that that's the thing they wouldn't tell him about, and you can tell he's not happy that they're keeping that knowledge from him. And if you do watch the recent Jumanji films, I selfishly hope they become reactions; it would give me a good excuse to watch them again.

I'm looking forward to you seeing Peter Capaldi's Doctor. I think Peter Capaldi is the perfect follow-up to Matt Smith for reasons I'll discuss when it wouldn't be a spoiler. The two portrayals tie in together very well.

Earthen

One of the little rituals in the early seasons of Classic Who was checking the oxygen and radiation levels, etc before going out. At some point he just got tired of checking I guess and just wanted to go out and see.

Earthen

Next episode is my favorite of the season as well, so you're not alone.

Carl Wilson

LOL, I loved it when you were going on about Matt Smith and suddenly thought, "Oh wait, and also Karen playing two different Amys!" Kind of the standout performance in this particular episode, though I agree it's a stellar Rory outing too.

SeanBoi

oh wow, I didn't even realize that either!

SeanBoi

That quote of Amy's talking about Rory's face becoming him is one of my absolute favorite quotes and I can't watch this episode without crying either, it's so good!

I started watching Doctor Who with the 1996 Movie, Paul McGann the 8th Doctor. And when that film sadly didn't lead to a reboot at the time, I started watching classic Who via VHS releases. Come 2005 I loved Eccleston, then I felt Tennant was a liiiiitle overrated, but then Matt came along... and he is my Doctor. No one plays The Doctor like Matt does, he is every emotion, every part of the role, young and old. He is amazing, and while other future Doctors are still great, they're not Matt.
