oh, Angela... our dear, sweet, emotionally intelligent Angela. i've been waiting for this one while diabolically twirling my mustache tbh this isn't my personal favorite of S6 -- but having watched you for a long time, knowing the themes and stories makes you tick, i've been excited for it. I knew it would destroy you that's not to say some of the lines in this episode don't hit me too- "you're asking me to defy causailty, the nexus of existence, for a boy" "you're Amy... he's Rory... and oh yes I am" ...it's also worth noting that, while Amy and Rory are probably my favorite tv "couple" of all time (I just pretend the ending scene of Flesh and Stone doesn't exist), the actual best-written romance in this series has yet to come to fruititon imo *diabolically twirls mustache again*

Love this episode. In the 2012 "Brilliant Book" (an annual that they only put out for two years, I think) for each episode of this season they had a "where have I seen?" where they do a mini-profile of actors in supporting roles in each episode. For this one, this was the entry: KAREN GILLAN - Old Amy You may recognize Karen from her appearances in the C4 comedy "The Kevin Bishop Show," or from her brief turn as a soothsayer in the Doctor Who story "The Fires of Pompeii" (2008). Yep, that's it. Nothing else we can think of. Wait! No...it's gone.

Well, now I’m wondering who you consider best-written romance in dr Who. To me, Flesh and Stone ending is a trauma response to Amy’s first big ‘I thought I was gonna die’ moment. Adrenaline crash and trauma make you do weird things. Never gonna happen again.

I really liked this episode, it was one of the ones I felt was needed as Amy and Rory's relationship was sometimes portrayed like he loves her more than she loves him, especially early on. I think in someways, this tried to answer this. EDIT: You may wanna edit this title so people dont think you skipped ahead to season 10 lol :)

'The Away Team never go down to the surface until they've evaluated...' That summarises the difference between the shows. With the Doctor, we're lucky if he remembers his coat, to quote Moffat. Oh, Moffat also said something to the effect that the purpose of Doctor Who is to traumatise every generation. To me, this episode shows starkly that The Doctor isn't human - humanoid, of course - but he's not human.

I was rewatching doctor with my at the time Fiancé and we got to this episode and it broke me coz i was like that with my partner i was Rory unfortunately we split up a year later due to her cheating but the love for each other those actors can portray was intense like really intense and it hit the core hard

Why indeed? Maybe because the British accent and American accent are completely different. As the Irish accent is different from the Scottish accent. And the New England accent is different from the Deep South accent. Etc. Etc. Etc.

It's not even all the UK - the Daah-lek pronunciation is a feature of Southern English accents which have long vowel sounds. About the only accent left in America that still has those long vowels (and where, like in England they don't pronounce "r" in the middle or end of words) is the Boston Accent - which is why other Americans make fun of "Paaahk the Caah in the Haaavaahd Yaaahd". Most American accents lack those kind of long vowels - as do a lot of Northern English accents and accents from the other countries within the UK (especially Scotland and Northern Ireland). Which is why Americans (as Christopher Eccleston, Sylvester McCoy and Peter Capaldi) say "Da-lek" and why people from the South of England (as well as most of the other Doctors) will say "Daah-lek")

Excellent episode, very emotional, it’s very tragic. This is one of the best Tardis teams, it is very difficult to have 2 or more companions with the Doctor, the dynamics don’t always work. But this team worked brilliantly. Moffat is one of my favourite writers, and he created some of the best ongoing characters for new WHO. It has always been my thought that a good story should make you tearful. It has to hook 9nto your heart and tear it apart.

in fairness -- I watched Smith first, then went back to watch Chris and David if i'd heard Chris' northern accent, i'd have known it was pronounced "Da-lek" -- but Smith's south UK accent is ambiguous with "Dar-lek", so that's honestly what I thought it was my fault for not starting at season 1 with Chris tbh

This was just as tragic for the Doctor because he has a history of leaving his companions behind once he's bored with them. He knows this and so seeing Amy become bitter and angry that he left her and never came back for her for 40 years, sorry 36, years.....he saw the damage he had done to his past companions like Sara Jane. And then...after all that...he had to do it again, this time to Amy.
