Wow, Trent is terrible but I gotta say, Caleb is a bad dude to go through with what he did to his parents. What he did to Owelia reminded me of Roy Mustang

Caleb spent time in a sanatorium, which is the very polite way of saying an insane asylum. In the campaign i believe he spent around a decade there as a frothing, raving lunatic. Tragic backstory aside, the idea of using magic to summon a beloved family pet and give them a hug is really touching.

Wow so they managed to traumatize even those of us who knew Caleb's backstory already again by throwing in the detail that he also burnt Frumpkin alive too. That was....a lot.

And Roy Mustang is in this (Fjord) so is Lust (Jester) Caleb did a ton of bad shit, which he does deserve some responsibility for, but he was also groomed as a child and fed a ton of imperial doctrine and propaganda. Trent turned those kids into heartless weapons and in Calebs case, it broke him. He harbors responsibility. Caleb isn't a good dude, but that's what is beautiful about this whole story. A lot of these characters are complicated and now we get to watch them grow.

And now you are beginning to understand why we love these characters so much. Every one of them is so deep and once everything comes together, it just vibes in just the right way. Our favorite dirt wizards backstory was something we didn't get until much later in the campaign, so now you understand why we all feel so much for Caleb since he's had such trauma in his past.

My favorite character, by far, is Jester. At least for entertainment value. I do have to say that Nott really brings out the feels.

Wow, you torch one family and murder, lets just say "a lot" of innocent people, and suddenly you're the bad guy? He's got a lot of redeeming qualities too. Fun accent. Has cat. Sad boy. I think we can comfortably say he's an antihero.

Just to clear up what Oweila did with the Bren note. In the beginning Trent explains that burning the acceptance letter instantly makes a notification at the academy itself. With the components she had plus Caleb's use of fire activating it, she basically casted a message or maybe some sort of sending spell. I love the attention to detail magic has in this show. So cool to see.

Also, I am so glad they were able to use Nott's "He's, MY boy. I keep HIM safe." speech from the campaign. It was one of my favorites.

Nit a reward the vulstrucker were children they dot shoe age easy but when bren and the others joined they were barely teens they brainwadhed them to be super loyal to the empire bren barely made it out of the brainwashing

caleb joined the academy at 15 he and the other two were the first vuksrruckewer thats why the later gir had tatooes residium and he had it stabbed into him he wad the first ever sucess in implanting residium into a human body the three were a poly couple for several years it wasnt just casual sex for saske of being turned on he was 17 when he burned the house down a brainwashed child he spent 11 yesars in a mentgak asylum after trying handle the trauma

The first time it was revealed Frumpkin died in the fire was in the graphic novel. Originally, Liam said he died of old age before the fire, which is why Caleb used him as a reminder of the good days. Obviously, things change as you get to know your character better, and this is one of those changes. Understandable, for sure, but it was still a major shock seeing that in the comic, just like people are shocked here.

I've been both dreading and excited for Caleb's backstory since the show was announced. I think they did a pretty good job showing some of the brainwashing & grooming "IckyThong" employed to twist Bren into someone completely unrecognizable from that bright-eyed innocent farm boy we got to see so briefly. There's definitely more to it -- one MAJOR factor in what went down hasn't been shown yet and really needs to be addressed -- so I'm hoping there will be at least one more flashback next week.

Now looking back from this episode (even at the beginning here), hopefully you realize how dark your idea of "oh bea can use the residuum in her arm" and "she can give it to caleb" sounded in hindsight ;) I doubt caleb would like to have anything to do with residuum, even if the technology has improved a lot with those tattoos and ikathon learning to turn off the fear/pain area, compared to raw twisted experimentation that he did on them initially. But you couldn't possibly seen that coming and I love your reactions for it <3

Even this many years later after listening to this part of the campaign I still was damn misty eyed near the end of this episode. Liam's craft of Caleb's story is just so well done. We are eating well in the CR world between this, Vox Machina, Campaign 4 and their work on Dispatch.
