Ben Walker

The most underrated episode in all of New Who right here, folks.

Jake Beaumont

At the end of this season, without getting into spoilers there is atleast one essential mini-episode to watch, nothing like the P.s. "scene that was never filmed". You may have already been made aware of it, not sure how early you watch before uploading here, but I just wanted to mention early as it will be an amazing reaction. Some reactors accidentally miss it or watch it off camera not realising how important it is. Anyway time to watch and enjoy this reaction I've been dying waiting for! 😃

Orla Quigley

Cool wee thing is the great intelligence is actually voiced by Sir Ian Mckellen. Hes very known for playing Gandalf on the lord of the rings, and Megneto is X-Men :3

Leo Cap

after the heartache of last one, Clara and Strax are chicken soup for the soul “do not attempt to escape or you will be obliterated. may I take your coat?”

Leo Cap

Eleven’s mannerisms have changed so much since his first season — now he has distinct “old man” body language. the clasping of the hands, the slouch — he just exudes “victorian” and it fits perfectly

Darth Muppet

…And here. We. Go! My favorite companion era has begun!

Leo Cap

Simeon to Vastra and Jenny: “i bet you two are lesbians in secret, neener-neener haha!” Vastra: “how offensive… she’s my loving wife!” undefeated

Michael Siegel

The timing on this one is personally hilarious to me. One of my dogs has recently taken to growling and barking at snowmen in our neighborhood. He's convinced they are a threat and goes crazy when he sees one. Maybe he's onto something. :) Richard Grant is amazing. You've seen him as classic Loki in that series. He also played the Doctor once in a comedy sketch. And I'm glad to see you experiencing the confusion we all did at the time. Don't worry. Things will be ... well, less confusing at least.

Philip Metcalfe

Victorian Values. Basically in England the whole moral/ethics of the country (but lead by the middle classes) took an extreme hard turn into being what many would consider to be a more prudish, thrift, self-reliant and arguably repressed era; as well as a big uptick in evangelism and the importance of Religion Was seen as being the need for respectability over things like being open-minded, was the time homosexuality became a crime. There is a reason Scrooge works best as a Victorian character

Josef Schiltz

Spiky little things. Snowflakes are always angry. They only appear when the weather is inclement and bitey.

Michael Siegel

If it's the one I'm thinking of, agreed. I think she will love it. So many upcoming episode I'm looking forward to!

Cody Thomas Sinclair

I'm so glad you didn't complete that google search, there was so many things you might have accidentally spoiled for yourself!!

Frank J

The Great Intelligence first showed up in a 1967 six-part-serial called "The Abominable Snowmen" where it controlled robotic Yeti. It featured the second Doctor (Patrick Troughton).

Vinny Johnston

Mr Punch is from Punch and Judy a seaside , puppet show in Britain.

David Vandervliet

Simeon, played by Richard E Grant was, very briefly, the 9th Doctor. In 2003, before the BBC commissioned this revival series with Christopher Eccelston, BBC interactive got the permission to make a new animated Doctor Who story for the web, with a new Doctor. That special, Scream of the Shalka, had a new Doctor - voiced by and appearence based on Grant. It was right after they produced the special that the new series was introduced, and it ended the plans of the animation. You can find bits of it on Youtube, and it is available on DVD.

Jeff Ratcliff

It gives rise to the question: Is any plot arc in Doctor Who ever truly completed?

Shanaeri Rynale

Totally unrelated to the xmas special, but you are getting close to all the 50th anniversary specials. What is the plan to react to those? the "main story" one is a shoe in, but there is a another that is wonderful and will make you fall in love even more with the show and how it came to be. It's called "An Adventure in Space and time" don't want to say more, but it is heart warming, inspiring and is a love story to the show and the people who made it happen 60 years ago now

BMackVO

He was also the doctor for about 2 minutes in the "Curse of fatal Death" red nose BBC special.

Cody Eckert

I remember watching this when it first came out and it being the first time I really recognized Matt Smith as "The Doctor". I can go back and appreciate him in season 5 and 6 a lot more now, but Tennant was definitely "my" Doctor, and losing him in the role as a kid was super hard. This episode will always be a bit special to me since its the one that really helped Matt start feeling like The Doctor. This episode is also my absolute favorite TARDIS reveal. The entry into the dark console room that teases that things are different, and then the lights coming on to reveal the full scope of the new interior is just so good. I generally enjoy the second half of this season. Its got some fun episodes and, like every season, some questionable ones. You have the 50th anniversary special coming up as well, which is utterly fantastic and a great/fun time. But be very weary of spoilers for that. I also suggest you DO NOT watch the opening credits/title sequence for the 50th. While this suggestion may be a bit premature, I highly recommend that you include "The Night of the Doctor" webisode in your viewing schedule. The other webisodes/minisodes around the 50th are probably skippable, but Night is a must-watch.

William Burnham

Jenna Coleman- Inside No.9 - Death be not proud- with the marvellous David and Maureen 🤣🤣🤣🤣

James Fleischman

I love Clara's theme. It so whimsical and special every time it plays.

Howie

So glad you didn't Google and look up anything. As River would say... Spoilers!

Doug C

Love this!! You asked how to refer to Madame Vastra, Jenny, and Strax? They are commonly referred to (at least among the online fandom) as the Paternoster Gang, named after the street of their headquarters. I guess technically it’s a spoiler to say they make more appearances, but I won’t say when or why. 😁

glenn sawyer

The was a rumored but never happened spin off for them, i would rather watch that than the latest spin off

Bill Roland

It may sound cruel, but I was waiting for Clara's one word answer to be revealed, because I knew it would break you. It's not because I want to see you break down, but because I love how invested you are in the show and how sensitive you are to the characters - and those moments when you break down show just how deep that goes.

Matt Jones

Glad you finally got to Clara she’s my favorite besides one from the Original Series !!

Matt Jones

I just somewhat recently watched that animated episode serial in Tibet with the monks and the Yeti

Ian Poulin

The primary companion of the original series second doctor is my favorite above all

Michael

A long time ago, in the future ...

Matt Jones

Fiji ? My favorite original companion was Leela with the 4th doctor and I liked Viki and Sarah too but Clara is my all time favorite companion !! Petite and spunky and sassy and smart is my jam !!

Jason

This episode is a prequal, its the first time the GI meets the Doctor (but not the first time the Doctor meets the GI, that was in his 2nd incarnation, timey-whimey!) and is the origin story for the GI. The lunchbox the Doctor gives the GI with the London Underground on it and the (false) information its a strategic weakness is the reason the GI attacks via the underground in the 2nd Doctor era story The Web of Fear.

Matt Jones

Polly ? I liked Polly and Sara too but Leela was my favorite classic companion but overall Clara is my favorite Petite smart spunky and sassy and smart brunettes are my jam !!

Michael Jones

Moffat threw in a couple of “Winter is Coming” references because Jenna Coleman was dating Richard “Robb Stark” Madden. It was a little wink.

Brendan Peters

Finally, we are in my all time favorite Doctor/Companion duo

matt

Unfortunately, when this season first aired it was no secret that it was Arthur and Karen's last season and that Jenna would be taking over. There were press junkets and they were all showing up at Cons together, and they were generally promoting the hell out of it. It was really fun watching you watch that episode without all that baggage.

Darren Withers

Seconding this comment. Regarding the opening credits of the 50th Anniversary special, Angela, when you get there, turn away as soon as the credits start (about 3 or 4 mins in) and wait until you hear someone say “Attention” before you turn back. Also, while it isn’t essential, it might be good for Angela to watch the Doctor Who movie from 1996 before getting to the 50th Anniversary special and its preceding minisodes. It won’t spoil anything, but there is a reference to the movie that she may appreciate more if she’s seen the movie first.

Darren Withers

Richard E. Grant who plays the antagonist, Mr Simeon here is a prolific actor with many credits to his name, though I’d lay odds you recognise him most recently as “Classic Loki” in The Void from season 1 of the “Loki” series. Edit: I’m sure you’ve heard of Mr Punch, though probably not with the Mr honorific… Punch and Judy, a well known hand puppet duo where Punch was known to hit Judy with different items and proclaim “That’s the way to do it!” Edit 2: Jenna Coleman was also in the MCU…. briefly. When Steve and Bucky go to the Stark Expo in *Captain America: The First Avenger,* Jenna is one of their dates.

Space Monkey Mafia

Clara. The new Rory. And, yes, Moffat is so horrible. Just loves killing off people, sometimes again and again.

Space Monkey Mafia

He was also an alternative 9th Doctor. A non-cannon animated Doctor from the time between the movie and the revival. With Derek Jacobi, as well.

Sean Williamson

Madame Vastra is the Green Lady and her wife is Jenny Flint. Also it's not Possible. It's Impossible!

David Vandervliet

Clara’s tombstone lists her date of birth as November 23 (1866). November 23 is the day Doctor Who premiered in 1963. Just a little Easter egg.

vaughn DeGeer

The great intelligence was originally a classic doctor who villian

vaughn DeGeer

The tardis gets a redesign for every new doctor and some times the same doctor has a redesign or two during their time

Isaiah

Looking back I understand the necessity for it being the turning point after the Ponds and pivotal fan-support wise but man I really wish we didn’t know

Maclay

One thing that might be important to say about it is that there is now more than one version. It would be important, if one were to watch it, to watch the original version. Not sure how easy that would be to arrange.

Joel Palenychka

You've also seen Jenna in The Sandman series as Lady Constantine

Robert A.

Jenna Coleman was announced as the new companion before this series started, and people knew what she looked like BUT we all thought that she wouldn't start as a companion until after the (previously announced) mid season break. When she showed up as Oswin in Asylum of the Daleks, we all were "WTF?!?"

Robert A.

The Great Intelligence appeared in two Second Doctor stories in the mid '60s.

Shanaeri Rynale

The change between versions is about 3 seconds of a different actor. I saw the original and while i prefer the version with one, it by no means detracts if a newer version is watched. It's a full length dramatization with so many top actors and actresses in, i'm sure Angela will be in heaven trying to spot them all :) It's so good that imho it really brings home why this show has lasted so long and has a special place in people's heart. The third 50th (the one with "ish" as part of the title) is watchable and more of a comedy , but only after the main story 50th and is gives a fun insight into how Steven Moffet creates his stories.

Tony Andarian

Don't worry if you don't understand how Clara can also be Oswin. You're not supposed to, yet. At this point, no one does. That includes The Doctor, who is now fully pulled out of his withdrawal by the inexplicable mystery she represents.

John the Rambling Scriblerian

It was a couple years before I learned that Brian's tale even existed. That question you worried about really stuck at me for a long, long time. I'm glad you had it resolved right away!

Cristin McKee

I feel like this is kind of a spoiler. Yes, the BBC spoiled it back in the day. But why should we spoil it?

Leo Cap

Steven said “I gave the last companion too much time. might as well kill this one off after 30 seconds of being in the tardis”

Darth Muppet

God, I forgot how much I adore Clara’s Theme.

Luke Jones

again, i know you love dinosaurs so PLEAAASSSEEE watch the British show ‘Primeval’. it’s so good. You’ll love it.

Craig

Brilliant series

Craig

By which Robert means Two stories featuring the Second Doctor, not a number of two-second stories

Kettlebright

I do really wish they would have had this victorian Clara in the TARDIS, instead of a modern-day version. The chemistry was fantastic and I love the idea of a main companion being one outside of their time, it hasn't really happened in the revived series.

Connor Rigg

She'd absolutely love Primeval. Would love to see her reactions to that

Leo Cap

maybe i'm the dissenter here, but I would love for angela to react to something dino-accurate rather than a "monster" series -- the original Walking With Dinosaurs or even BBC's Prehistoric Planet would be such a fun and different type of reaction

Josef Schiltz

I really like how Matt's costume here, including the tall hat, mimics the second Doctor, Patrick Troughton's. In his earliest days, Patrick wore a 'Stovepipe' hat.

Gambit3838

I loved that show so very much. I even loved the follow-up series to it.
