I was already angry about the cancellation but then we got our happy ending for john and aeryn BUT THEN IT WAS JUST RIPPED AWAY. WTF??? rage. weeks of just burning rage. I sobbed and screamed and felt a huge farscape shaped hole in my heart and soul. yes they had time to change the end. they chose to keep it exactly as they had originally planned. they felt they had to be true to the show and honestly I’m glad now that they did. I don’t think we the fans would have fought so hard to get more if we had been even moderately sated with the finale. it was brutal but effective. by now you’ve probably already started, or maybe finished, pkw but even if you haven’t I ask that you keep some things in mind: they did their best to cram a whole season into a 3 hr miniseries. there are several moments where they had to get creative and take some liberties and maybe cut some corners to make it even kinda work. even as a diehard fan there are things I kinda cringe about a little bit on the inside. still love the shit outta pkw tho. just keep an open mind and give them some leeway lol. there’s some other things we’ll explain once the mini is up. oh and do you recognize that final frame? is it maybe from a little discord server? have you known this whole time, without context, how it actually ended??? nah. that would be diabolical. what kind of sadists would do such a thing. 😏

Just subbed so I can watch this later! While I'm glad we got PK Wars to cap things off, had the show ended here it might just have been the most Farscape thing ever!

I had learned, not long before this episode aired, that it would be the end of the show. I spent the entire episode wondering how they were going to wrap up the series in a satisfying way. As it went on I got more and more apprehensive. I wondered how they would end it more than I watched what was happening. When John and Aeryn got disintegrated by that new alien...I stood up. I yelled "Nooo!" I remember my dad was on the phone, telling me to be quiet(he never understood why I liked the show). The Sci-Fi Channel added some text at the end, "Thank you for watching." "Thank you for supporting the show." Something like that, I no longer remember the exact wording. It seemed SO disingenuous to me, I was MAD. Some time later I learned about the fan-led "Crackers DO Matter" campaign and months later they announced a TV miniseries conclusion and about a year after that, we got The Peacekeeper Wars.

D'argo spoke for all of us at the very end there. It was a year or two of thinking that was the end before the fan campaign became successful and Peacekeeper Wars was announced. During that time, my head-canon was that it ended BEFORE the alien ship showed up. 😭

Yep. That’s how it ends. Congrats on surviving one of the most gut wrenching cliffhangers in TV history. D’argo’s scream still hits me like a truck all these years later. The first time it aired I got very drunk afterwards. Lol. So yeah, welcome to our shared trauma. 😁 And nope! There was no PK wars yet. This was it. I remember the Sci-Fi channel’s Forum for the show had a lot of angry posts after watching this. Thankfully there was a massive outcry from the fans and it managed to eventually get PK wars geeenlit. It was broadcast over a year and a half after the series finale. I was lucky enough to be able to attend one of the Save Farscape events at a local comic shop. It was a lot of fun. There was a petition to sign, they were recording videos of the fans talking about how much they love Farscape, to be uploaded to the website and we just hung out all day watching the show. It’s one of my best memories of being a nerd. I still have my old SaveFarscape pin. Oh here are a couple things that you should watch. The first is a documentary about the SaveFarscape movement. It was made after PK wars got picked up. It has some great interviews with the cast and fans and shows how we got Farscape Picked back up. The second is a great behind the scenes documentary of PK Wars, that talks about the cancellation and renewal. They’re not required to watch, but they’re fun. And the interviews with the cast and crew are fantastic. And there are no spoilers in it. It has so much heart, and action, and phenomenal storytelling. It’s going to look dated at times, especially the pilot episode. But it is so worth it. I consider it on the same level as Farscape. And it gets very emotional at times.

I'll let other people console you about the brutal end. One of my very favorite things about this episode is the capstone of healthy masculinity it represents in that conversation between John and his dad. Jack isn't a perfect dad, but I think all their interactions are full of really good representation of communication, dealing with disagreement, patience (especially with parents that you love deeply despite their flaws) and of course you always get to see where John got his ability to feel deeply and cry freely without shame. As a Mom of a teenager, "you are the heart and soul of my life" hits so hard now, and the way you have to let go, watch them grow beyond you, and accept that your role is to be left behind and cheer them on.

The show's producers had the time to change the ending. Heck they could have just ended the episode after Rygel said "Idiot" and then a shot with John and Aeryn in the boat, in bliss. But the producers knew that if they showed the intended ending, set up the cliffhanger, it would motivate fans to action much more than a happy ending would have. And ultimately it worked, creating the Peacekeeper Wars. Eventually, a lot of the story ideas planned for season 5 that did not end up in the Peacekeeper Wars were used in the Farscape comic series, which Rockne O'Bannon has a writing credit on. Of course its all adjusted to fit a post PKWar timeline. There were a couple of D'Argo related miniseries (one I think takes place in season 3, actually) and then a couple of ongoing series. This episode wrecked our generation who watched it because we didn’t know if it was ever gonna be continued sci-fi canceled the series and it was horrible. There were petitions and everything to bring it back and we were so happy when it was picked up again.

Yeah.. it was rough, especially those last two minutes with the mindset that this was it. It was worse than a breakup.. it was the first of its kind for me, and I never trusted another network again to to allow a long running series to have a proper ending. Thankfully others were just as passionate about this show which was enough to pressure the network to give us a closing to what they started.

Your Farscape reacts have been the highlight of my week since I discovered your channel in the summer of 2024. The last two years have been really bleak for me personally, but I always got a lot of joy re-experiencing my favorite show with you. I am really going to miss this when your journey ends with the Peacekeeper Wars.

John is no longer a dog with two bones. : ( Although his choice was forced by the Scarans. A Scaran-enslaved Earth was never an acceptable option for him, so he had to give it up, probably forever, by sealing the wormhole to make the trip to Earth a 60 yr journey (so said Scorpy) . Aeryn and the baby are now his focus (assuming they can all be reanimated). The Peacekeeper Wars force fits an intended full season into a feature movie. As a result it progresses at a breakneck pace to fit it all in, so buckle up, the roller coaster ride continues to the end.

We found out later the sci fi channel canceled Farscape so they could spend 40 million on the TV show Tremors. An awful show that was canceled after the first season. Talk about adding insult to injury!

I was a brown coat before I was a farscapian luckily my heart was hardened before watching the end to this show and learning of its cancellation.
