Moffat sure knows how to bring the feels.

Oh how I loved this episode. Clara is amazing. And the idea that’s she’s threaded through all the doctor’s lives is so beautiful.

Cody Thomas Sinclair

I remember back when this aired and they made such a huge deal about the Doctor’s name, which I really think took away from this being Clara’s big moment when all hype should have been on her. It’s nice that people can just enjoy this episode now without all the hype and speculation about the Doctor’s name that happened at the time.

John the Rambling Scriblerian

As someone who grew up watching Classic Who... this episode hurt. I absolutely love it, but man... the nostalgia in this, for me, is like a knife. One that I happily jump on again and again. And your reaction to seeing Number 9 is always how I feel when I see Tom Baker's Number 4, my first Doctor.

As you thought the roller coaster was coming to an end Moffat reveals the second, much scarier second half that he's had hidden round the bend.

Robert A.

There was an image of this episode that leaked early...it was of Clara in the darkness with an indistinct figure running past behind her...and when we recognized the colorful costume, we fans (on reddit, IIRC) FREAKED OUT. ("It's Colin." "WHAAAAAAAT") And then, when I watched it on BBC America, and John Hurt's voice came out of the TV, that was another huge WHAAAAAAT moment. And then the wild speculations began -- What did the Hurt Doctor do that was so bad future regenerations disowned him and tried to hide him away/forget about him entirely? SO GLAD that you don't have to wait months like we did to see what comes next! (and I'd better shut up about it now) ("Hurt Doctor." heh.)

Michael Siegel

The Doctor in the fur coat is the second. Hopefully, you'll get a chance to watch some classic Who. A lot of his episodes are missing but some are absolute classics that I think you'd adore. Can't wait for the mini-episode and specials!

Kyle B.

Great episode!!! I can't wait till next week's video!!!!!!!

Josef Schiltz

The Whispermen remind me of a painting by the Surrealist Remedios Varo called 'Bankers In Action'. Thing is, about meeting all the Doctors in their own time stream, it makes one feel quite ancient! I remember when each of those old Doctors were broadcast. The scene with Clara and the first Doctor was a montage, cleverly composited together with CGI. The Doctor looking round was from The Aztecs - 1964 - and William Hartnell's dialogue, "What is it? What do you want?" was from The Web Planet - 1965. I think we can take it that version of Clara was a technician in the repair shop and our TARDIS had established a telepathic link with her. Basically, "Find me a Time Lord to run away with!".

Darth Muppet

The impossible girl’s impossibility finally revealed.

Josef Schiltz

The stopping hearts threat from The Whispermen seems to have been borrowed from the Judge Death character in the Judge Dredd comic strips from the Sci-Fi comic 2000 AD.

SuperJohnPatterson

Omg can’t wait till next one being 50 anversery Now few suggestions Watch the minisodes first have your husband search for u so no Spoliers Second once mat is dangling from the tardis close your eyes for the cast but an open when the music score stops Your in for some fun 😄😉

glenn sawyer

If it's not on your list, you need to watch the mini episode "the night of the doctor" it explains where "the war Doctor" (John Hurt) comes in the order of the doctors

glenn sawyer

You are watching peek doctor who, i think the 50th might be to biggest part of it, it was released in theaters on the day of the 50th anniversary... I siad in a comment when Amy and Rory left that the 2nd half of the season is amazing, and you have been seeing that with Jenna Colemans episodes but the best is yet to come

Adinium

It seems you forgot the Series 6 finale. You have heard Trenzalore before. Dorium the big blue guy from last season mentioned it when he explained to the Doctor what the Silence’s motivation was. The prophecy was “On the fields of Trenzalore, on the fall of the eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never be answered. The oldest question in the universe hidden in plain sight…Doctor Who?” And the Silence’s religion was basically them being determined to stop the Doctor answering that question and ever reaching Trenzalore which is why they tried to get River to kill the Doctor etc. Moffat has spaced this storyline out a lot so sometimes it’s easy to forget details.

Nikita Pascari

I wish the 50th reaction was here already!! We are at peak Who right now!!!

daviderl666

Can NEVER get enough of River Song! ❤️

Cody Eckert

FYI, there are multiple versions of "An Adventure in Space and Time". You should have Nathaniel double-check to make sure you are watching the original version that aired ~2013, not the new version. I can't believe how early on you clocked Clara's whole deal. I forget which episode you made the theory about her splitting herself across time, but I was so impressed and its been hell having to keep my mouth shut about it until now lmao. Also, FWIW, they did show Clara with 9 and 10. They just didn't do any close-ups of those particular Doctors. I'm really excited for you to watch these upcoming episodes. This stretch from this episode through The Time of the Doctor is my absolute favorite part of 11s run as The Doctor.

Isaac

🙌

Jeff Ratcliff

Yes, it's unfortunate that there isn't any obvious clue when the issue comes up and what comes just before is worth watching.

Josef Schiltz

Ramp that up ! Definitely see the original 2013 version!! The same one that Sesskasays - Jess - reacted to.

Josef Schiltz

It's on Angela's list, immediately after An Adventure In Space and Time.

john

I will never watch that new version. That change was unnecessary.

Cody Eckert

Eh, I don't hate the change but for first-time watchers the OG version is the right one to watch at this point in the show.

Cody Eckert

I assume you skipped the intro and went right to the reaction, because she laid out her planned watch list/schedule basically first thing in this video. She is doing AiSaT, the minisodes (including Night), the 50th, then finishing with Time.

Dante Sparda

Clara saying "I don't know where I am" is a callback of The Library and The Silence in the Library! "I can't, why can't I, I can't, why can't I, I can't, why can't I? HEY WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS...HEY WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS...HEY WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS?" The Spoonheads in The Bells of Saint John, and the Nodes from The Library and The Silence in the Library! If you stay Silent and listen you might just hear the whispers. LISTEN.

john

2013 was such a fantastic year to be a Doctor Who fan. I can’t believe it’s been 13 years already. The 50th might just be my favorite of all of the specials. I think I may just rewatch An Adventure in Space and Time tonight. It’s been awhile.

Doug C

Does he need to introduce River as his wife? I mean marriage is “until death do you part” right, and she clearly died… yes before she met this him, but definitely in the past… 🤯 “It’s complicated” makes more sense here than a Facebook relationship status!

Code76

Looking forward to reacting to the short "The Night of the Doctor" next...

Chris Padwick

I loved the interweaving of the classic doctors. The Third Doctor - the curly white-haired guy was driving a car - his car; a very old, 1900-ish, bright yellow and black motor that he called Bessie. Just thought I'd let you know. He was always charmingly kookie.

Charlie Passingham

The change was entirely necessary as the scene was made with that change as part of the entire point of the scene

Bill Roland

"I'll do you one better, WHY IS CLARA!"

vaughn DeGeer

I look forward to your reaction to the day of the doctor, when you finish new who you should watch a story from each doctor of classics who to get a feel for how each actor evolved the character in their own way

glenn sawyer

I watched the intro but must have missed her say night of the doctor

Drake

rivers grave cant be there we saw her die in the library the first time we met her

Ray (Fanporium)

Your intro reminds me of the Puppy Dod Theory, I used to use. Good shows are like puppy dogs. They're so delightful and fun to play with. But the minute you start to dissect them, not so much... (Though originally the metaphor was about being forced to red and dissect books in English class.)

The Lazy Gamer

Having a reaction to the movie would be neat, although aside from which Doctor it is, it's so far removed from the 50th lineup I understand why it's not there.

The Lazy Gamer

The whole point of that scene is for that change to happen every once in awhile.

Robert A.

The Five-ish Doctors requires a certain amount of Classic Who knowledge for best effect...the bit that made me laugh the most was when the music cues changed from outside to inside the studio.

William Wood

A fabulous episode, I loved the snapshots of classic who, having been an avid watcher of it. Moffat has been my favourite show runner/writer, he knows how to pull the heart strings

BMackVO

Yes John Hurt did great things..... some TERRIBLE....but great.😉

William Huebler

The other part with visiting ur own grave is once u cross ur time stream it becomes a fixed point in time and can’t be altered. So ur death can’t be avoided.

William Huebler

A lot of people do a classic who tour reacting at this point. It’s a good place to do it. But not necessary strictly speaking. Though I do think she’d enjoy a tour.
