Upgraded for the end of this season ❤️

Remember, watch "An Adventure in Space and Time" before you watch the 50th anniversary special.

OfficiallyGames

I just hope that you watch the original 2013 release/cut of 'An Adventure In Space and Time' NOT the updated cut/release or else you will be spoiled.

Chris B.

Assuming she hasn't watched it already, hopefully Angela was able to track down the appropriate version; I'm not a fan of how they've handled that movie over the years with its updates, makes things more confusing for someone going in blind (like our gal is doing here) with those different versions in the mix. Also: I really hope she knows for the 50th anniversary special to avert her eyes for approx. 20 seconds when the opening cast credits begin. Another one of those odd choices by the showrunners to do that the way they did, in my opinion.

Rach

That shot at the end? I'm like 90% sure it wouldn't spoil anything Angela doesn't already know. Although I agree the 2013 one is more thematic to watch at this point

Shanaeri Rynale

I approve of the list. Although I would add the one with an "ish" in the title after the 50th. There are a couple of long episodes in there AIST and DotD so i'm assuming these will be split over several weeks :)

Ben

Dorium who the doctor mentioned is the blue guy who got turned into a monk and was a head in a box who mentioned 'the fields of trenzalore' at the end of s6.

Daniel King

Cant wait to watch this tonight. Can we fast forward to next week please !!

Ben

Spare a thought for those of us who had to wait 6 whole months to find out what the deal with John Hurt was!

Cross Hatched95

Rememeber guys she has someone going through all this from our comments and setting out like a schedule for her. Any spoilers are being picked up before she even interacts with it.

Cross Hatched95

I can’t believe we are a week away from the peak of doctor who. 🥲❤️

Fr. Brench

INTRODUCING JOHN HURT as THE DOCTOR! Boy did we lose our minds that day. Enjoy the roller coaster ahead, it's some of the best <3

Andy Munden

I'm fairly sure there are versions of the 50th that have the credits blurred out. Yeah strange choice to put them at the beginning.

Lazzy

One of my favorite episodes. But next week! -- next week is my favorite episode of all time. I actually watched the 50th anniversary at the theaters. In 3D no less! It's a core memory for me, to be honest. Everybody who was there was obviously a massive Doctor Who fan, so the energy in the theater was indescribeable.

Brian

In a weird way, you’re lucky to watch it now and not when it aired. About 2-3 days before this episode, someone got a copy of the episode and it leaked out that John Hurt would appear as The Doctor. So it was spoiled for most fans before it aired. I think you missed a line Matt’s Doctor said to Clara that is very important about who John Hurts Doctor. Not a spoiler, just to clear up what 11 said. “Clara: Who’s that? The Doctor: Never mind. Let’s get back. Clara: Who is he? The Doctor: He’s me. There’s only me here, that’s the point. Now let’s get back. Clara: But I never saw that one. I saw all of you. Eleven faces. All of them you. The Doctor: I said he was me. I never said he was the Doctor. Clara: But I don’t understand. The Doctor: My name, my real name, that is not the point. The name I chose is the Doctor. The name you choose, it’s like, it’s like a promise you make. He’s the one who broke the promise. {Clara collapses} Clara? Clara! He is my secret.” Also when the Great Intelligence says The Doctor has gone by many names and rolls out “The Storm, the Beast, The Valeyard.” The Storm and the Beast we’ve heard with Doctors 9/10/11 in past episodes. “The Valeyard” is a reference to a big Classic Who character during the Sixth Doctors tenure (the one you saw in this episode in the multi colored suit with curly blonde walking behind Clara in the TARDIS hallway). I will say no more about that. Spoilers…in case you ever watch Classic Who here or just for yourself.

Jeremy B

Another reason not to watch the 2023 version of An Adventure In Space and Time is that it was fairly heavily edited following objections from the son of the writer of An Unearthly Child, who thought the show had gone “too woke”.

Agnarr

The Doctor's name is Mark Please.

Alkaris

it's not really essential to watch, it's more of a spin-off fun thing they did to retell a story on how Doctor Who came to be.

Michael Jones

Couldn't disagree more. I think she should go from this to Night of the Doctor and the 50th Anniversary special, then you can watch Adventure In Space and Time before the Christmas Special. It should come after a break in the story, not in the middle of one. And I don't want to wait two weeks to see Angela's reaction to the 50th.

Cyber legacy

This episode is amazing and i can't wait for the 50th doctor who anniversary episode which is next in the story

Jeremy B

I love this episode. That cold open with Clara meeting past Doctors gives me chills every time. It amazes me just how much Moffat squeezes into 45 minutes without it ever feeling overloaded, rushed or forced: the Impossible Girl resolution, the Great Intelligence, the Paternoster gang, Trenzalore, River – and the shock reveal of “the Doctor who broke the promise”. And they only managed to get John Hurt to play the role!! A few fans hate on this episode because they think it makes Clara too important. I disagree, I think her self-sacrifice is typical of her bravery, loyalty and kindness. She risks her very existence to stop the Great Intelligence from rewriting every single one of the Doctor’s past victories. Ultimately, by the end of the episode, he perishes with all of the Doctor’s victories still in place, the Clara copies quietly protecting him from afar at every turn. Dorium was the blue guy whose head was placed in a box at the end of Season 6 in ‘The Wedding of River Song episode’. His words at the very end of that episode were: “On the fields of Trenzalore, on the fall of the eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a question will be asked. A question that must never be answered. The oldest question in the universe hidden in plain sight…Doctor Who?” The Silence and Madam Kovarian dedicated themselves to preventing the Doctor from ever reaching Trenzalore and answering that question. Moffat wanted a long-running arc for Matt, not just season-long ones, so this one was spaced out over a number of years. It kind of gets put on the back burner during Series 7a and the beginning of Series 7b though. There were a few reasons for that. First, Moffat had to write the Ponds out when Karen and Arthur decided to leave, then he had to deal with the aftermath of their departure and its impact on the Doctor, as well as introduce a new companion in Clara and then set up the 50th anniversary special. It’s no wonder he was close to burnout by the time the 50th aired. I’m really glad our suggestions on Discord helped. It absolutely shouldn’t feel like homework, but there was some truly wonderful programming around the 50th, so much to treasure. We want you to feel part of that special month of November 2013 and enjoy it just as much as we did then. Big thank you to Nathanael for his great work curating all of this and to Drew for setting everything up. I'm sure the guys have already got this sorted, but the original 2013 version of An Adventure In Space and Time is the one to watch, not the cutdown 2023 edit.

dean worrall

in answer to your question "what happened to the GI at the end?" , I don't know if you're old enough to have used a VCR but its the same principle. you can record over a show with another one, and then you can record over that second one with the first one again next time it airs...... only the last recording is what's left.. the middle one never happened as far as the tape shows..

Purple Dragon Knight

Amazing reaction, Thank you! I hope it's not too late but I thought I would suggest something no other reactor has done to my knowledge. There was a one minute long 50th anniversary trailer that really hyped us up. It's spoiler free but done so well. I think it would be an excellent way to follow in the footsteps of all of us who were watching it for the first time too. Then, of course, there are the two mini-episodes that set up the actual 50th. However you do it, I can't wait for it. Thanks again!

Dante Sparda

You're going to love the next episode. My lips are sealed.

Dante Sparda

Clara saying "I don't know where I am" is a callback of The Library and The Silence in the Library! "I can't, why can't I, I can't, why can't I, I can't, why can't I? HEY WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS...HEY WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS...HEY WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHTS?" The Spoonheads in The Bells of Saint John, and the Nodes from The Library and The Silence in the Library! If you stay Silent and listen you might just hear the whispers. LISTEN.

James Fleischman

Do you hear the whisper men? The whisper men are near. If you hear the whisper men, then turn away your ear. Do not hear the whisper men, whatever else you do. For once you've heard the whisper men, they'll stop. And look at you

Karl Ward

Loved this episode and your reaction, as always. I was born 33 days before JFK died and 34 days before Doctor Who was first broadcast, so he's always been there. The 50th anniversary episode was such a big deal and I too watched it in the cinema as it was broadcast at the same time on the TV. Obviously it was 23rd November 2013 and I was 50 years and 34 days old! I hope to live a reasonably long time (Who knows?) but it gives me comfort to know that, ah well, spoilers!

Luka Poser

I never loved this episode, but WOW is it heavy. I think today is the first time I really felt its weight. That farewell to River though... beautiful! Trenzalore was mentioned once in Wedding of River Song, as a part of the prophecy the Silence were trying to stop by killing the Doctor prematurely. It's totally fine to forget that though, it was mentioned only once, 15 weeks ago! Also fair disclaimer on the ending- Matt Smith suffered a knee injury during filming, so a scene of the Doctor and Clara escaping the timestream was written but never filmed. We can assume that they found a backdoor somehow.

Ash Davis

Wow I haven’t cried like that to this episode before. Thank you thank you thank you for your reactions!

Ash Davis

Also the subtitles are always crap! It’s Dorium not Dorian, which probably caused the confusion. They’re either using AI, or a bunch of Americans who can’t understand British accents

Martin

So as you kinda pointed out this isn't a final finale as such, it's more part one lol So this part is essentially about who Clara is and it's great, we basically saw her timeline in reverse through this series, we met her at the asylum and in Victorian London and those as we now know were those copies of Clara from this episode, so all these versions of her are basically echoes or copies etc of Clara kicking the GI ass lol The kiss scene towards the end is hilarious - 'God knows how that looked' lol But yeah just an excellent episode, finding out about Clara, Vastra Jenny and Strax crushing it, River and the Doctor and some surprise at the end! And don't worry, even us watching at the time had no idea about John Hurt, so no one knows what his role is yet when they get here either.

Daniel King

Just to clarify. Is next weeks episode 'An adventure in space and time' and the 50th the following week, or are you watching 'An adventure' in your own time?. My brain failed to process in the info.

Ejigantor

There's an episode of Coupling (the very funny relationship sitcom by Moffat) where they' discuss that moment in Alien, "The John Hurt moment" and how it affected them.

Ejigantor

Also in The Bells of St John, the people sucked into the internet were all saying "I don't know where I am"

John

So much to say, but spoilers. What I will say is a heartfelt thank you to you and your editor and all the people on the Discord making sure you get the right content in the right order without spoilers. You asked who Dorian was. The name is Dorium Maldovar. He's the blue dude who got beheaded by the headless monks in the episode Demon's Run. If you recall, he was the first to warn the Doctor of Trenzalore at the end of that season.

John

I am SO jealous! I can't imagine being in a crowded theater full of Whovians at THAT moment. I was watching it at home on my computer and I still squee'd like a little girl.

Riku Kurosaki

John Hurt was also in one of my all time favorite movies, Contact. You should react to it if you haven't seen it.

John B

Studying your Dr Who blanket is definitely a good idea. You should start immediately !

Joshua Quintana

I kinda wish she would watch the Doctor Who movie as well but that might be a bit much.

funnylilgalreacts

The reaction to an adventure in space and time will be up next week!

Carl Wilson

Loved this reaction, thank you. I've always been pretty satisfied with this "solution" to the "impossible girl" puzzle of Clara. A lot of fans hate anything that seems to mess with past continuity, but I think they forget that she's mostly only undoing what the Great Intelligence has gone in to do. She's not actually changing the older stories otherwise, just restoring them. John Hurt is one of the great British actors of the later 20th century and on - he won an Academy Award for 1980's The Elephant Man (directed by David Lynch), and there's SO much more than that.

Carl Wilson

I was a little confused by that too, thanks.

Dante Sparda

Exactly! Dona's soul was uploaded into the Interface in The Library when she became a Node, the same way Clara was uploaded into the Cloud by the Spoonheads! I wonder if a future Clara downloaded River/Melody back so she can interact with Vastra, Jenny, Strax and Clara, and then uploaded her back?

Dante Sparda

There are 2 versions of that episode by the way!

Chris B.

Now that I've caught up I realize the recommendations I posted earlier were already in place, as Nathaniel was way ahead of us in the prep. Big props to both him and Drew for setting things up so Angela has the best experience (IMO) going into this!

Mike-L

Looking forward to seeing your reaction to the anniversary special. To be honest, that is half the reason I subscribed.

Joe Grindley

This one is important Angela, in the title cars for the day of the doctor make sure to not look at the names (like Matt smith) that pop on screen!

Paulo

Great cliffhanger with Jon Hurt I don’t know much about how this gets resolved so it will be exciting to watch this with you.
