FULL LENGTH REACTION

Mr Johnstone.

NOOO IM NOT READY FOR THIS EPISODE.... TAKE IT BACK lol

Nathaniel Castle

I really wanted to give you a hug at the start of this video

Ben

Originally, 11s regeneration was going to be completed at the top of the bell tower but Moffat changed it and added the part after because he didn't want Matt to go out as a shouty old man.

Nathan Jasper

A regeneration cycle is the lifespan of a Time Lord. So when 11 said "a whole new regeneration cycle" he meant another 12 regenerations not just one.

Brian

When 11 said “oh it’s a whole new regeneration cycle”, that means the Time Lord gave him a full 13 regenerations as if he was starting over. So you have 12 coming, but 12 is the 1st Doctor of this new regeneration cycle. And there is a behind the scenes for this episode. If you skip to 7:58, you’ll see the table read thru for the episode and Matt’s reaction to his regeneration speech. It’s so heartbreaking as you get to see how much the show means to him. https://youtu.be/JgE1dkJanEc?si=osaurnle6yt4huvF

DieWinterkirsche

I think Negan from The Walking Dead says it best regarding this episode: "You can breathe. You can blink. You can cry. Hell, you’re all gonna be doing that"

Jeremy B

Dorium predicted it all correctly including the truth field: “On the fields of Trenzalore, at the fall of the Eleventh, when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer, a Question will be asked. A question that must never, ever be answered." “The Kovarian Chapter” is Madame Kovarian who broke away from Tasha Lem’s leadership and took some of the Silence and the soldiers back in time with her to the events of Season 5 to stop the Doctor ever reaching Trenzalore in the first place. Which explains her comments about “this endless bitter war” in “A Good Man Goes To War” in Season 6. It’s thought that if Matt had stayed for one more season, the events of this episode would have played out across that year rather than being resolved in a single Christmas special. Gallifrey gave him a whole new regeneration cycle of 12 regenerations, so 13 faces in total.

Shanaeri Rynale

The reason why Matt was bald, was that he needed to be shaven headed for a movie which was filming at the same time as this

Brian

There are no spoilers here but this should give you comfort Angela. Peter Capaldi is a HUGE Doctor Who fan going back to the 1st Doctor. He was a member of the official Doctor Who Fan Club, wrote to them so much the heads of the fan club knew him by name. And he got to meet the Third and Fourth Doctors and Sara Jane Smith (School Reunion w/10) and a companion to 3 & 4.

Rach

Always sad to say goodbye to a Doctor - but I can't wait for you to meet 12! I'm sure it will take a while to get used to, but he's my fav of all time for a reason!

Benjamin

people said it was quick but the doctor used regeneration energy to destroy the daleks, plus its a reset and "A whole new regeneration cycle" (12 regenerations) there's not really a precedence for that and I always believed the Linda character was an Aunt, I don't know whether maternal or paternal

Alkaris

You will come to like 12th Doctor very much in the coming episodes. You've come so far, you've crossed that horizon and you're ready to see the next adventure.

Ben “Bentendo” Dawson

I love this episode for Matt, it encompasses everything his Doctor is and was before moving on. Not in fear, or sadness, but excitement for what’s to come. One factoid, Moffat allowed both Matt and Peter to write their own regeneration scenes. So the “breath on a mirror” and “I will always remember when the Doctor was me” was straight out of Matt’s heart. 💙 💙

Purple Nurple

And the fact Karen was also bald cause she was filming with Marvel at the time... both of them in that final scene were wearing wigs!

Merkavar

The doctor who cycle, love the old doctor and hate the new one, rinse and repeat with each doctor

Lazzy

This regeneration devastated me more than any other. Matt Smith was my Doctor and I imagine he always will be, even though I love the rest too. Almost thirteen years later and I still remember his final words down to the line. I still think about them often, when I feel like things are changing and that I'm worrying about who I am. At those times, I remember that it's good to change, as long as you remember all the people you used to be -- and because of Matt, I always try my best to remember where I came from and who I used to be. On the topic of feelgood shows, you'd probably really, really love Spy X Family and that's a show that never fails to put a smile on my face.

Lazzy

There's also the things that the Whispermen say in The Name of the Doctor. "The man who lies will lie no more, when he lies at Trenzalore."

ZapWing

So the Timelords gave the Doctor a whole new regeneration cycle, which means that he has 13 more lives. The Doc mentioned the word "cycle" during the "never tell me the rules" bit. But I remember when this episode came out, I was already excited and onboard with Capaldi coming in. I was excited that the BBC had already announced it, they had said he wouldn't be in the 50th, but they did advertise VERY loudly that this was Matt's last special. Despite my excitation, I was distraught when Matt left. But you'll love Capaldi's eyebrows <3

MaxValPlatt

I keep thinking about next episode. There are some many "new" "old" things that Angela liked in this show. And a magnificent speech of Capaldi right at the end....real bummer that there is going to be a whole week break (

MaxValPlatt

and then a next episode happens. Who knows what I'm talking about, thay know.

Frank (MetronV) Izzy

Yeah, we're never really ready for a regeneration, even when you know it's coming. Man, this episode got me in the feels several times, especially that last vision of Amy. And his speech at the end...my god. But yeah, definitely take some time to mourn and process before starting the next season! Also, if you need a palate cleanser, a feel-good show you might want to check out The Haunting of Hill House. ::whistles:: :D

Daniel King

One of the greatest speeches to ever grace TV. it's one thing to write it but to get someone to recite to perfection is another. The way the forth wall is broken, speaking to us about yourself. Pure magic

Golladan

I always wonder why the Doctor decides to start flying the Tardis when he's in the middle of a regeneration.

vaughn DeGeer

Both Matt and Karen wore wigs in this episode, Matt had his head shaved for a movie he was doing and Karen had hers shaved for guardians of the galaxy.new who unfortunately got into the bad habit of destroying the tardis with every regeneration, the tardis deserves better.

Martin

Love how Moffett got so much stuff from Matt's era in one episode, and to get it to all connect, it's fantastic stuff from the Moff! But yeah so many good things in this episode it'd take too long to go through lol But Matt's final battle speech and then regeneration speech, perfect and then Amy!!!!! ahhhhh! Anyway I'm off to check the colour of my kidneys and intensity of my eyebrows.

John

This was a jarring transition for me. I didn't like Peter Capaldi at first, but he ended up becoming MY Doctor. I contrast Matt Smith's and Peter Capaldi's Doctor as this: Matt Smith looks like the lost little boy running around the universe, but at times you can see he's really an ancient being. Peter Capaldi looks like an ancient being, but at times you can see he's really a lost little boy.

Chris B.

Although jarring, I really like the sudden *snap* of Matt regenerating into Capaldi alongside the music immediately turning mirthful. It catches you a little off-guard, just as Capaldi and his eyebrows did for those Who fans unfamiliar with the distinguished older gents that had played the Doctor prior to Chris Eccleston's series; a lot of people just had no idea what to expect really, and those of us that knew Capaldi from his Malcolm Tucker character would frequently chuckle at thinking of the strong contrast between the two characters. Don't you worry, you'll find plenty to love about Capaldi's turn as the Doctor!

Ejigantor

According to the rumor mill, it was expected Matt would stay on for another season, and when he decided not to the plan for the series got compressed into this special, and would have had The Doctor staying on Trenzalore with individual episodes covering him fighting off the various baddies across the centuries. Banger of an episode. I love the gag with the wooden Cyberman. And I choose to believe that not-Barnable at the end was in fact Barnable's grandson or great grandson. I'm absolutely counted among those who love Peter's run, but I love Matt's run just as much, and it's always hard to say goodbye.

Nicholas Sulikowski

Just one clarification, the Time Lords gave him a brand new regeneration cycle, totaling 12. And since he just used one, he's got another 11 left. So the writers won't have to think about this for another long while. And if you're wondering, the idea that a Time Lord could only regenerate 12 times for a total of 13 faces comes from the Sixth Doctor multi-part serial Trial of a Time Lord. Another thing that is a pretty neat reference to classic Who is when Eleven produces that Seal of Rassilon to help Handles with translating the message. He says he "nicked it from the Master in the Death Zone". That's a nod to the 20th anniversary special The Five Doctors, which (sort of) featured what was then all five Doctors in a single story. Regarding Eleven's age by the end of this episode, I seem to remember reading somewhere that he spent a total of 900 years on Trenzalore. And the Doctor Who wiki seems to confirm that. Add that to his stated age in "The Day of the Doctor" 1200, that makes him 2100 years old just as he becomes the Twelfth Doctor. I also loved that this episode made it clear that the entire Eleventh Doctor's run has really all been one long story arc. It's always been about the Silence from the first episode, and now we have the proper context. It's always been about them trying to stop him from reaching Trenzalore, even if they have to blow up the TARDIS or engineer a psychopath to kill him. Last thought. Regarding the Twelfth Doctor. Ohhhh, not only is Peter Capaldi intense, but his Doctor to start with....is pretty cantankerous. He softens up over time, he's a joy by series 10, but let me put it this way....his first episode is called "Deep Breath". But don't worry, he's a fantastic actor throughout all of it, and the writing is great too.

Sense Departed

The end of this episode, is where I Personally stop my doctor who journey. The writing and tone changes COMPLETELY. Some will like it more, Some will like it less. Regardless of if you like it, the one thing no one can deny is that the entire style/tone from the series going forward is not like it was to this point. trying to not leave spoilers.

Kevin (GiantFutures.com)

“A crotchedy, psychotic old man”…and that’s why he’s my Doctor. Everyone has their Doctor…Peter Capaldi is mine. Him and Clara…wow. I know this one is painful….it feels far longer than this episode’s actual run time, but the journey is going to be worth it when you see the Destination. Side note: Handles is by far the character I most want to see more of. How did he come to be with The Doctor??? Side side note: Did you call the person’s dog Barnabas because of The Sandman? Just curious…

Marquie Minx

I was crying before you even started your introduction, Matt Smith will always be my favorite and no matter how many times I watch this series, I break down when it comes time for him to leave😭

Adrian Gell

This might be the episode I most wish I could rewatch for the first time, without the memory of what comes. Been waiting for this reaction a very long time.

Amadeo Escobedo

I have cried to 90% of the movies I've ever watched and doctor who is not exempt, especially when any more depth is introduced than is. You crying makes my crying worse but it's funny and good, because I can always breathe so clearly after lol

Earthen

These transitions are tough... and without any spoilers this transition is going to be the toughest one you've had yet, and you've already said why with the eyebrows and the intense face. But... having seen every classic Doctor and every new one... I can say with a high degree of confidence that Peter Capaldi does the finest job of acting with the role. The show is in good hands, and some of the best is yet to come.

Carl Wilson

I love what you're saying about the stepmother. A bit of a bad cliché.

Carl Wilson

That's what I thought about non-Barnable too.

Carl Wilson

This is definitely a trickier transition than the earlier ones - having done the younger dashing Doctor three times now, Moffat clearly wanted the show to change things up. But have patience with Capaldi, it's worth it.

Carl Wilson

Lots and lots of us disagree with this.

Luka Poser

"I wanted everything to stop. I wanted nothing to change ever again. If he could just keep standing there, so beautiful..."

Sorcerer Rumburak

Steven Moffat is the devil's violinist among storytellers. It hurts—but you can't look away. 💔

Dante Sparda

There's a theory that the flat/apartment that Clara is living was once owned by Rose and her mom.

Paulo

Oh my fucking god, I thought because I watched already it wasn’t going to get some much I’m a fucking mess. I’m pretty sure my neighbors heard my sobbing ( I leave in an apt.) Well if you want something feel good you know you can watch Your Name it’s a great feel good movie.( I had to)

Dante Sparda

He might not have 12 Regeneration cycles but probably more?

DSJ.

Peter will, perhaps, be a tad difficult to love at first, but I swear, by the end, you'll love him more than any other Doctor. You're in for a hell of a run - some of the best Doctor Who episodes and series are yet to come. Actually - at least one or two of the best TV episodes of all time are yet to come. You're in for a hell of a ride. It might be a bit bumpy at first, but, mon dieu, it's-a-comin. It's very effective, how this episode ties up everything from the entirety of Matt Smith's run. It would've been nice, though, to see much more of the tales of Trenzalore - as, apparently, s8 was meant to be. But given the constraints that reality enforced, this was as excellent as it could be, and it truly was excellent. Also, some of us think Peter is the HOTTEST of all Doctors. Well, I do, at any rate... and not just because he's a countryman of mine, one of the greatest actors this wee country has ever produced. One of the greatest musicians, too, incidentally, as I discovered when I saw him at a gig a couple of months ago. All this to say - can't wait!!! 'When the Doctor was me' - no, nobody shall ever forget it, Eleven, nobody! ;(

James Fleischman

Kidneys! I've got new kidneys! I don't like the colour.

Dante Sparda

Well The Doctor's previous incarnation ate Fish fingers and custard so there's the answer.

Cross Hatched95

Peak regeneration. Love Amy still gets me every single time 😢❤️ now’s it’s time for the eyebrows, can’t wait to see u grown with my favourite 🥲❤️❤️

Carl Wilson

Please stop talking about future episodes. Doesn't matter what you do or don't say about them, just don't.

Mimi

It makes me laugh when people call Peter an old man - he was the same age when he started Doctor Who as David Tennant is now, and no one calls him an old man!! 😂 I hope you enjoy 12 anyway, he's absolutely my favourite doctor and definitely worth sticking with!

Joe Cleveland

Peter was, what, 54 or 55 when he filmed this? That can't possibly be old. I mean, I'm older than that and I know _for sure_ that I'm not old.

Mark McKeown

Otherwise that would be a nightmare for writers trying to think of new ways to give him new life 1 regeneration at a time lol

Joel Palenychka

If you're looking for a nice feel-good show might I recommend Eureka? Small town built by the government during the second world war to house all the greatest brains they could collect, all managed by one every-man sheriff who's always in over his head. Sometimes literally.

Michael Jones

He could have a new set of 13, of they may have given him 1300. We'll know some day.

Michael Jones

This episode is 12 and half years old now, and I still can't get through his final scene without tears. As soon as Amy shows up, I'm gone, and the tears flow.

X Gropo

The scene that gets me is probably different than most others: when the Doctor has a hard time pulling the cracker. I watched my father grow old and frail and this scene reminds me of that and how powerless I was...
