A lot of shows and movies have been heavily influenced by this show and Ghost in the Shell anime movie.

This one even has it's own original inspiration. It's lightly inspired by Lupin III. Faye's opening scene of her firing full auto from the hip was meant to be a nod back to Fujiko doing the same thing in the Lupin openings.

As a note on the post watch discussion: Romani is an actual real world ethnicity/people group, not just a word for people who roam around.

Oh interesting! I was really trying to avoid saying gypsy so Romani is so much better

I always say that Faye actually got it wrong in the opening: "Shoot them before they shoot you" is the SECOND rule of combat. The real first rule of combat is "Be somewhere else when the shooting starts". A little more than a month ago I got to see Yoko Kanno live in concert with Seatbelts. The composer and band for the soundtrack of this series. Oh, that was MAGICAL. One of the best concerts of my lfie. They were amazing. The last time before that that I went to a jazz club was in a Paris basement in 2019. It's been seven years and I still remember that. Angela if you ever get a chance to go to that jazz club you want to visit, don't let the opportunity go.

Yeah, "gypsy" is a misnomer due to a mistaken belief that their people came from Egypt instead of near the Indian subcontinent and is widely used as a racial slur against them. They're the Romani (or the Roma)

dont forget the 2.5 million for asimov

I absolutely love the vibe for this show, and it is so refreshing that, at least thus far, universe-ending stakes are not a thing at all (we'll see how well that ages!). Also, I've been in a few jazz clubs, in New Orleans. You would absolutely LOVE it.
