Hahaha, love the ADHD sidetrack, a bit too familiar! 😂 (I am both autistic and ADHD – oh, the constant battle of the brains!) I think both Ivanova and Londo are killing this episode. Just the way Londo sings the Hokey Pokey, in a kind of staccato, militant way, is SO hilarious. You already know from the start that he doesn’t get it AT ALL. 😂 And I forgot just how much stuff was crammed into this episode! You’re in for a treat, because this show is getting REALLY good. But thanks for reminding us weekly just how great season 1 is, even before this point. Love your reactions and thoughts as always!

Ivanova is one of my favorite female sci-fi characters. Babylon 5 is one of my favorite shows and I have rewatched it countless times. I love watching it again with you and getting you to experience it for the first time!! 💜

Note. When she is apologizing to her god being, Ivanova defaults to looking up. But, to her ancestors, she is already up! She is where her ancestors supposed gods to be! Therefore, is Ivanova in the place of the gods? In effect, if Ivanova truly a god, as she says, she has no real need to apologize. If we follow the philosophical breakdown step-by-step, the conclusion holds up under the rules of Babylon 5 lore: The Spatial Paradox: and perspective. Living on a space station, "up" is an arbitrary concept. To her ancestors looking toward the heavens, Ivanova is literally dwelling among the stars—the very realm historically reserved for deities. The "Ivanova is God" Mandate: In the universe of Babylon 5, the premise is actually canonical text. In this episode, she explicitly dictates her leadership mantra, which culminates in the rule: "Ivanova is God". The Logical Conclusion: If she is already in the heavens, and by her own decree she is God, then logically, a supreme deity answering to no one has absolutely zero structural or theological need to apologize. Of course, Ivanova immediately follows her "Ivanova is God" declaration by muttering, "Just kidding about that God part. No offense" — proving that even if she doesn't need to apologize, she keeps that little baseline Russian pessimism - plus some cosmic insurance - handy just in case the universe decides to fire back! Ivanova: "BOOM! Oops! my bad" Garibaldi: "Three, two, one. Did I miss something?" Ambassador Kosh: "Yes."

tahts not the prime directive, the prime directive of the federation is that you can not make contact to a PRE WARP civilization, its fine when the civilizations are above.

Actually, the Prime Directive would not apply here. Given the artificial nature, and depth of that gorge, as well as the the fact of the missiles, and what APPEARED to be either a beam weapon or ultra-high power communications beacon...indicates a very high level of technology. Clearly space faring capable. As such, the Prime Directive would clearly make such a civilization a candidate to be contacted. Also, Ivanovna is more than merely god. She IS omnicient; is a negotiator of legendary talent, and makes aliens fear human style mating :)

When you thought Draal was with the council. There is no formal hierarchy in the Grey Council. The 9 members are equal. 3 from the Religious Caste, 3 from the Warrior Caste and 3 from the Worker Caste. But some are more highly respected by the others, so they can become "leaders". The Council is Supreme Court, Congress and President all rolled into one.

Claudia Christian was in an episode of Columbo, which was written by Peter Falk, with Faye Dunaway. Claudia played her daughter. It was called 'It's All In The Game'. That was where I first saw her, back in 1993. Just before Babylon Five. Peter Falk let Claudia keep most of her wardrobe from the shoot—including an Armani suit—as compensation for coming in on her day off to record extra lines. Peter also told Claudia to say she was 18, younger, in order to help her get the role so as to be believable as Dunaway's daughter. Claudia was 28 at the time, whilst Faye Dunaway must have been in her late fifties.
