Paul Hess

I've been looking forward to this point, it's like the training wheels of an already great show come off, and stay off for the next 4 years!

Moricant

The Starfuries aren’t built for atmospheric flight. They are optimised for manoeuvrability in space and the struts between the engines and the cockpit are not shaped in a way that would allow them to achieve lift in atmosphere.

Harry S

Claudia Christian has been in alot of things, two offhand are The Hidden 1987, a good sci fi movie, and The Substitute 3 1999?, an action movie.

iFixSAN

And this is my annual reminder to watch Forbidden Planet.

Fr. Brench

As you might've picked up through the rest of the episode, only Sinclair was born on Mars; Garibaldi just worked there, and Ivanova's from Russia. But they still care, of course! Love your questions about the alien found on the planet... knowing the answer in part two I've forgotten how many possibilities are still open at this point.

Stephen Collette

Such a fun episode (and part 2 is great too!) You can begin to see the red yard start to form patterns. Interesting how EVERYBODY seems to have a part in the story. Sinclair, Ivanova, Garibaldi, Londo, Delenn, G'Kar, Kosh, all the various governments, Earth, Mars, 'Free Mars' movement, and the list goes on....... I like Paul's analogy that the traning wheels are coming off. If we continue that meaphor we'll move to a moped, electric bike, motorcycle, and then rocket on weels by the end. This show is made for a conspiracy fiend like you. :P All we can say is this: - some things will be answered in the next episode - some things are setting up events in seasons 2, 3, 4, & 5 - there are a few threads that lead nowhere (no, thank me later....sorry for all the spoilers!!) You've already experienced two of the best quotes: "Nobody here is exactly what the appear" - G'Kar, and "Ivanova is God" - Susan Ivanova. Only about a dozen more to go. You will find that you use these in everyday conversation long after you have finished the show for the first time. Cheers!!

What is this "joy" of what you speak? 🤣 This is one of my favourite episodes from season one. JMS admits the design of Epsilon was heavily inspired by Forbidden Planet.

Freja Corbinne

Babylon 5 is in orbit around the third planet of the Epsilon Eridani system (hence Epsilon 3). Epsilon Eridani is a real star about 10.5 light years from Earth.

Tim

All else aside, It's just one of the best, and timeless.

John

I'm going to answer all your question the way Kosh would answer them. *Silently walks away.*

Continue to really enjoy your reactions and theorising. JMS did an interview recently (don 't watch it, MASSIVE spoilers) but one really lovely story that seeing Londo talking to the Centauri extra made me think of came out of it that isn't a spoiler. Apparently, because the Centauri woman are all bald, the wardrobe department approached JMS and pointed out to him that there were lots of women who had been having chemotherapy and lost their hair and were both struggling to pay for their treatment and feeling terrible about how they looked while their hair was gone. So they started using these women as Centuari background extras - giving them a day where they get pampered and get to look super glamourous with their bald head on display and also paying them for the work in order to help with treatment costs. That's why there's so many Centauri women in background shots dressed in glamourous gowns like nobility on the station despite it not really making sense that would be so many noble Centauri women on the station - they basically ran it as a program for the life of the show.

Ah, I was coming to say something similar. The tech they saw underground is very Krell.

Claudia Christian was in a lot of random shows in the late 80 to the 90s, mostly one-off episodes. In the 2000s, she moved mostly to voice-over acting. Like Helga in Disney's Atlantis: The Lost Empire. She has done a lot of VO work in video games. Her video game career spans nearly 30 years. She voiced over a dozen distinct characters, including fan-favorite Aela the Huntress in The Elder Scrolls V; Skyrim Multiple roles in the Fallout series: Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. She's appeared in alot of Blizzard's games in multiple roles: World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Diablo Immortal, and Heroes of the Storm. Including new fan-favorite, Xal'atath, in World of Warcraft.

John

She guest starred all over TV in the 80's and 90's. She also did a ton of voice over work, including multiple roles in Fallout 4 and Skyrim video games, not to mention Doctor Who: The Monthly Adventures podcast.

John

They have multiple med labs all over the station. Some, if not all, of them can support multiple atmospheres to treat aliens. They showed this in The Gathering when they had Kosh in the Isolation Lab.

Joshua Quintana

I don't know if this has been mentioned but Epsilon Eridani is used in quite a few sci-fi works. It is Vulcan in Star Trek, it's Rocky's home system in PHM, it is visited by Bob in the Bobiverse books, and it shows up in the Halo games. And those are only the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Freja Corbinne

Actually Vulcan and Rocky's home planet from PHM are from the 40 Eridani system, but yeah both of these do get mentioned frequently. 40 Eridani is slightly further away at 16.3 ly.

Tranquil_Gnome

Some nice quotes in this episode. Delenn's is my favorite from the whole series.

Geoff Richards

I agree, no spoilers up to this point that I can see. It's obviously a DVD extra. 20 mins.

Paul Hess

The writing for this entire series is thru the roof great.

Garrick Smalley

17:00 "What was that?" Could it be A Voice in the Wilderness.

Gwydify

Yes Sinclair is a butterfly. If he goes to Grey 17 and flaps his wings the Vorlons will speak plainly.

Karl Ward

I think Wnters (Andrea Thompson) and Garibaldi (Jerry Doyle) were married! For a couple of years anyway, they had a son together.

TalynOne

Humans in the Babylon 5 universe wouldn't be where they are if a prime directive existed. Humans got jump gate tech from the Centauri.

Roy Graham

This never occurred to me before but I think Sinclair's religious perspective played a part in my own journey. By this point he's already mentioned he grew up in a Jesuit school. I had a similar path with Dominican sisters and Jesuit priests. I've long since moved away from organized religion for a lot of reasons but the part I struggled most with was reconciling being a good person while still honoring the best values I grew up with. Sinclair did just that. He's still a good man who follows his own ethical code with fundamentals he learned in his youth. Huh... didn't expect an introspective moment in this rewatch. Thanks! Oh Londo understand joy. She just left the station.

Cei Stockport

In Star Trek the Prime Directive seemed to exist so 95% of the time they had an excuse not to stop species getting wiped out. The Culture's approach was much more moral.

James Davis-Mann

Claudia was in the most excellent Starhyke. Seriously uhhh...yeah..... ummmm

Thomas Schorsch

Epsilon (Epsilon Eridani) is the star system. Epsilon 3 is the planet. It's real and 10 LY from Earth.
