Babylon 5 1x19 FULL LENGTH Reaction | A Voice in the Wilderness - Part 2

FULL LENGTH REACTION

Moricant

Minor world detail - when Captain Pierce is talking from the Hyperion, we can see the adjusters/buckles of harness straps. He needs them as, unlike Babylon 5, the Hyperion has no rotating sections to provide gravity to the crew.

Gavin Kinsey

No boom today, boom tomorrow, there is always a boom tomorrow.

Korea Mobile

please watch next two parter in one go! would be really apreciated!

Stephen Collette

"I love this show...." As a comment, most fans consider Season 1 to be the weakest overall. I share only to make you even more excited for where this goes. You will seriously be tempted to binge. Remember, us old folks had to wait a week between episodes, wait 4 weeks mid-season due to 'fall sweeps season', and several months between the end of one season to the next. Love your reactions and the thought you put into the characters, story, etc. Sending you a couple skeins of red yard and an even larger bulletin board - you will need it! :-)

Johannes Güth

I have ever asked myself: how long he and his crew have been in space without gravity..... and then docking on Babylon 5 and walk around as usual? what is with "adeption time"?

John

Where will you be getting the "correct copy" of episode 1x20 from? I want to make sure I have the same version you do. It looks like the Babylon 5 YouTube channel has the complete version, but Amazon Prime does not. Be warned - the Babylon 5 YouTube channel has tons of spoilers in thumbnails everywhere.

John

Most species have artificial gravity. Earth tech isn't that advanced. We saw it with the breathing masks as well, with Garibaldi wearing the full face mask on the planet, but Londo, Delenn and Draal using a much smaller breather. I like the little details that show how the different species have different levels of tech. B5 only had gravity because it rotates. They even show the tram in the central core has warning signs that's it's a "Low Gravity" area because it's not rotating as fast. Those little touches make it feel like such a real, lived-in world.

TheUndeadFish

Adding on to what someone else said about the Hyperion, some additional world building from J. Michael Straczynski: "the Hyperion is one of the few surviving heavy cruisers from the Earth/Minbari War period; after we lost a LOT of our ships, there were some new ones commissioned, which we haven't seen yet, which are far cooler than even the Hyperion"

John

In contemporary spaceflight, the crew does regular exercise to combat the loss of muscle mass and muscle tone in zero g. They wear a special belt with elastic straps to hold them onto a treadmill so they can run with simulated gravity, among other exercise machines like bikes, and weight band (like a Bowflex).

John

Yeah, the Hyperion is like an F15 when we also have F35's flying. Still very serviceable, but older tech.

Geoff Richards

Does anyone know which is the right version, with the extra few minutes? Or what the runtime is on that version, so I can check if I've got it or not?

Kieran Elliott

I know it is in part because of all the politics of Earth, but it feels like military people show up repeatedly to give Sinclair orders without any advance notice , to the point of being a bit overdone. It gives him some great moments to shine, but it feels a bit weird it happens that frequently.

Vexkun

According to one the TTRPG source books, the name of Varn's race is Ru Ha'rus. It includes some more cool info, but I can't say anything more. ;) Will say the RPG books have so much cool info on almost everything, and expand so much on the world-building. Well worth the read after finishing the series, that is. We see our first Earth Alliance capital ship. The Hyperion-class heavy cruiser is an Earthforce warship manufactured by KarmaTech, primarily at the Neue Hanse Orbital Shipyard in Earth orbit. Class Heavy Cruiser Length 1,025.39m Beam 286.5m Draught 326.1m Mass 8.4 million metric tons Crew 350 Engines 3 Beigie-Bryant 900A Particle Thrust Engines Jump Capable Yes Gravity No Weapons 2 52mm Plasma Pulse Cannons 2 40mm Plasma Pulse Cannons 2 Phased Particle Cannons 4 Pulse Discharge Cannons 2 Thermo-nuclear Torpedo Tubes Auxiliary Craft 6 Starfurys Like most Earth Alliance ships of the period, the Hyperion lacked the capability to generate artificial gravity, either through the use of rotating sections or the later, more advanced gravitic drive systems. Though rotating sections were within Earthforce's technical capabilities of the time, they greatly reduced a ship's speed and effectiveness. As such the crew had to operate in a completely zero gravity environment, requiring the use of seat straps and handholds to work effectively. Several decks are dedicated to crew quarters and facilities. Crew were often granted leave time after a tour to adapt to gravity again. Ships of this class ranged from 8-10 decks not including the command deck. Before the introduction of the newer classes of ships, the Hyperion-class heavy cruisers served as Earth's front line warships, often supported by the heavily armed Nova-class dreadnought. Hyperion heavy cruisers made up a proportion of the fleet that was assembled for the Battle of the Line and though a great many were destroyed, the ones that survived continued to serve alongside their successors as the workhorses of the Earthforce fleet.

Aron

Do we even know that she's aware of this?

Baulderstone

They don't necessarily spend all their time on the ship. I'm sure they spend a lot of time at various bases. I just don't think Earth has as many bases as "cushy" as Babylon 5.

Paul Hess

Phew I'm glad we got past this big important two parter. Now nothing else notable will happen for the rest of the season as we gently dénouement our way to the end.

Paul Hess

OMG I haven't even gotten the actual reaction yet but your explanation of the early chapters of the Babylon 5 story as the pink slime from Ghostbusters starting to bubble up out of the toaster is absolutely the most accurate portrayal of this show I've ever heard. You really get it! This should absolutely be a Youtube clip. I think the Great Maker himself would agree with your description. (7:25)

Paul Hess

What a great episode, and what a great reaction. But I have to agree with Garibaldi: "Franz, what kind of a name is Franz?!"

Tom Maynard

And they held the last few episodes until the new season was ready to start…

Texas Anla'Shok

No, this was not staged by Earth Gov or EarthForce or anyone just so they could try to grab Epsilon III. It's fun to think there's all these grand conspiracies out there, but if you think about the logistics it just falls apart. If you recall back in "Eyes" they get a brief that weapons are being smuggled to Mars. This thing has been building for a while, and the fact that it occurred right now is just bad timing. And I would also point out that the fighting actually started before they confirmed what was down there. If they were going to stage a rebellion as a distraction, which would be a major ace in the hole, not one to spend lightly, they'd want to keep that close to the chest until they know it's actually worth playing on. So, simplest answer, the rebellion started all on its own. Or these supposed masterminds are the worst chess players ever.

Kinoko

For the rest of the show I always keep in the back of my mind that Varn and the Great Machine judged Londo as worthy.

Chris Biebel

"Will we see Epsilon III again?" Of course we will. It's in every episode, right there behind the station! Duh!

TM2

This reaction is going at more or less the same pace...minus the 4 weeks mid season, lol

Geoff Richards

Thanks mate. My copy is only 41 mins 4 seconds. I can't access the YouTube one due to country restrictions, so maybe if I get a VPN that will fix it. Otherwise I will root around and see what I can find.

John

Since she mentioned it in her outro, I'd say there's a better than average chance she's aware.

Cei Stockport

"Join EarthForce today! Because we're not quite as bad as everyone else! (Honest)

John

Even if she does, due to the time editing, we'll still only get 1 per week. She's mentioned that in the past, I believe.

Korea Mobile

like i sayed an ecxeption of this standard would be really apreciated and it would a one timer and it would really make sense!

You are Leery (of him/her/it/them) OR Wary (of he/she/it/them) - not weary (tired - though maybe you're tired of them too lol). I am sorry to have to be 'El Correcto'/'Grammar Police' here, because I love you, Angela 😘💕and all your reactions that I've watched; but I see (and hear) too many people make this mistake.

MertzRocks

How you put that is just 👨‍🍳😚

MertzRocks

No indeed they don't, and many bases are on planets and moons. Ofc no transporters means taking shuttles or other support craft down to the surface.

Thomas Schorsch

I doubt it was a hologram. Delenn couldn't see him while she was right next to Draal and Varn was projecting while he was on Babylon 5 too. He was probably telepathic and projected directly to the specific people he wanted to. He had picked Draal and, given his limited time to monitor Draal, the only way he could have know that Draal would be a good candidate would be to telepathically scan him and possibly Delenn too. He probably needed to go to Babylon 5 to be close enough to scan potential candidates before he died. At the end, there was a large projection of energy from the planet before Draal's image was shown, so it was probably an actual hologram, or the planet is capable of telepathic projection too, but that seems unlikely.

Thomas Schorsch

Varn judged Londo as useful. I don't believe there is any way that he believed Londo was a suitable candidate.

2026-10-07 20:00 You can always watch both episodes on the day the second one is released. I don't think the series should be rushed. There's the problem of having way too much to react to if they're watched them at the same. One other reviewer made this mistake, and it took away from their reaction a bit. The multi part episodes are packed with too much information. It's fine if someone is just binge watching the series, but it's a mistake for a reactor.

Talia would be breaking the law if she scanned Varn without his permission. Talia has shown that she won't break Psi Corps rules (some of which are also laws). I'm sure Bester would do it if he believed it was in his own interests, but he probably would keep it a secret.

Thomas Schorsch

Reactors don't typically binge, especially ones that add so much analysis.

Korea Mobile

from my point of view it is quite the oposite. the reaction would incomplete and wrong assumption would flurish. second it is not rushed if you do it once in 114 rounds.

Roy Graham

Give this toaster a wide berth. The tension is palpable. I'm coming to look forward to the excited panic writing. Lando is a... complex character. Such a pleasure to watch his journey. The caretaker's poetic description of the machine at the end there has always stuck with me. Stimulates the imagination in thrilling ways.
