Very very excited for next Friday haha

James Hoffmann

That was very cool. I do think that Angela will appreciate this video even more when she finishes the entire series because she will have experienced the entire arc that the video keeps referencing. For example, when JMS says that the show is about hope and one person choosing to make a difference, she will understand that answer a lot better when she finishes the series.

Alec Zrike

I really appreciate the editing for spoilers. More than any other show I know, Bab5 is *highly* sensitive to spoilery stuff.

Jeff

I've never seen this before, so thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to your thoughts and reactions to season 2. I know I'm not alone in enjoying your intro and outro as much as I enjoy your reaction to the actual show!

In a different interview that I recently watched I found out that they hired women going through cancer treatment that had lost their hair to be background Centari women. It is little things like this that continue to endear me to the whole essence of B5.

Mark

Thank you for this unexpected surprise. I am sitting here on a Friday really struggling through withdrawal and the wait for S2E1, this didn't fully scratch that itch but provided some relief!

Fr. Brench

Some of the music playing through this short was clearly from season 2! But I'm sure that's an acceptable spoiler, especially since you were about to watch its first episode anyway ;)

Firefly24601

B5? With Angela? You BET I came back for more!

TP Burrow

Your team of spoiler-free editors are doing a remarkable job.

James Fleischman

I like the point about hope because I feel some other sci-fi shows don't incorporate that enough.

Crismac

I haven't either. I thought I had seen everything in the Babylon 5 universe.

Garrick Smalley

Thank you Firefly24601 for putting this together. Angela if I may push back a bit... Americans do not have short attention spans all the media feed to them is short because it makes more money because it acts like a drug. The limit on the media we get is not because of the population it is because of the decisions of people with money. Shows use to be 22 episodes long and go for 5 years because then you could syndicate them and make more money. Before that shows went for as long as they could. Shows like Star Trek may have been canceled because people behind the scenes did not like it but it had an audience. The cost for Farescape went up but the audience stayed flat. There are many show that get canceled for various reasons, lack of audience, lack of enough profit, producer hates the main actor and so on across genres. Still loving you reactions to this show and I will go back and watch your reactions to Farscape from time to time. Thank you.

Tom Smith

They used Amigas for the CGI, it was crazy.

Saphthings

Has she watched Season 2 episode 1 yet and not posted? I don't know how much we can say without dipping into spoiler territory.

James Hoffmann

The video mentions how the main characters have flaws. I think this is one of the fascinating aspects of the B5 universe compared to the Star Trek universe. In Star Trek, humans have founded the Federation of Planets and it is portrayed as a utopia at least in TNG. Disease, poverty, war have been eliminated on Earth. But B5 shows us a future that is not a utopia where humans and aliens are still struggling and have flaws but are learning.

Bryan Jue

Yeah, I think he said "unpossible" :P

Kamp

man the JMS story about Peter and Andreas is gold. Their chemistry is out of this world

Vedexent

"Nathaniel needs to edit it down" - well ... as much as I'd like to see it NOW ( :D ) - I have to say Nathaniel is doing a top-tier job on editing the series - if you could pass that along :)

Richard van Deursen

Hi Guys. This is my favourite sci-fi show. Has been ever since I first saw it. I think that it is because to me it is a plausible vision of a future. As a species we haven't yet overcome our own foibles, irrational quirks and such. I loved the idea that Earthers were not the dominant species and were still trying to find their way. As well as trying to keep things from flying apart amongst the other races. Anyway, was a landmark show and it is great that others are now finding out about it and will remain for me the benchmark.

Michael Rubinstein

Great stuff! B5 is my favorite show of all time, yet I’ve never seen these specials before, so thanks for the treat. And the best is yet to come 😁

There is a spoiler chat which can be used for open show discussion, though it is safest to wait until specific episodes have been posted on this channel on Patreon before making comments here.

Curious to know, Angela, have you ever seen Valérian: Spatio-Temporal Agent, commonly known as Valérian? It's a French science fiction comics series, created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. It was first published in Pilote magazine in 1967. It really predates both Star Wars and Babylon Five in alien design. The English translations were published first in Heavy Metal Magazine in instalments. The movie, a few years ago, was just - sort of - okay. Most of the problems were down to miscasting the two leads, Valérian and Laureline. It was loosely based on the graphic novels that were published after the stories were initially published in Pilote. 'After Man', by Dougal Dixon is also amongst the fascinating books that goes into possible future evolution of animal-kind and human-kind. He also goes into dinosaurs and how they may have evolved had man never made an impact.

If you can get the blooper reels, you should react to them as well.

"Ah'm-possible to dew". It's his accent. He said, "impossible", it's just he has a very strong accent. Either a personal 'idiolect', rather than a regional dialect. He said "dew" as opposed to "do". He was born and raised in San Diego. Can't pin this one down. Accents fascinate me. This one has me beat. It could be a John Copeland family thing or he's just messin' abart!

Josef Schiltz

He said, "ah'm-possible". It could be an idiolectic that is idiosyncratic to him. It doesn't seem to precisely connect with any accent or maybe it's a hybrid or a minor impediment.

Tranquil_Gnome

I'm guessing your reaction to seeing Vir - Stephen Furst after he lost weight. During the show he had a bad episode with diabetes. His kidneys failed. If I have the story right, a fan of the show donated a kidney so he didn't have to do dialysis or wait for a donner. You will see in the show when he dropped the weight. He to to live 20+ years longer because of the love of a Bab 5 fan.

Jeff

Fortunately, DS9 took the TrekVerse out of Roddenberry's Utopia every so often (/waves at Ron Moore).
