Hello, everyone!
Progress on Overbreed Episode 1 continues to chug along. I ran into a small roadblock with figuring out a good DVa pose for her tiny cameo in the project, but after a day of spinning my wheels on it, I finally decided on something that's Good Enough™. It's not a perfect solution, but I have a feeling that - in practice - no one will really pay that much attention to it.
Here's the pose I settled on:
I had actually originally planned to cut this entire section out, and actually put together a quick build with it removed. But the feedback I received, comparing it to the storyboard, was that - while the pacing was certainly faster with it removed - the cut sequence provided an enjoyable slow burn of character development.
Seeing how this project is already slated to be a fucking hour in runtime and is effectively a feature-length film with a disproportionate amount of fucking in it, I elected that character development is a higher priority to me than breakneck pacing. So long as there is something being gained in each sequence, something that contributes positively to the whole, then I consider it worth it. This is, after all, ultimately a self-corruption story. Mercy's descent from prudishly finding porn distasteful to greedily impregnating half the Overwatch cast is an important aspect of that.
As such, in the end, I decided to retain the section.
I was hoping to get all of Narrative A done by yesterday evening, but that's not how it panned out. It'll definitely be done by next Monday however.
As a friendly reminder, I am going to be doing Sequence B last, because it requires me to completely rethink what I want to do for the early parts of the Mercy flashback sequence.
Which means that, once I finish up Narrative A here, I am going to jump straight into Narrative B - which, among other things, requires me to create yet another new scenebuild. And then once Narrative B is done, I jump over to Narrative C (since Sequence C is already done, being the main Sombra sequence). Which will again require a new scenebuild.
So many scenebuilds.
Beyond Overbreed, I made some phenomenal progress on the Timeliner tool I had mentioned last week.
If the image on the right looks suspiciously familiar in formatting to the image I showed last week, that is very much by design. The key difference is that, the image I showed last week I hand-assembled in Photoshop. The image on the right here was generated entirely through code.
I intentionally modeled the Timeliner's output after that image I shared last week, because I think it is a clean and efficient way to communicate ideas. And I have to say, I am extremely pleased with how it came out.
Though I do also have to say, I am also deeply suspicious of it and keep a shotgun trained on it at all times. That is because I wrote the entire exporter entirely in one pass, with no tests during development - 260 lines of code in total, spread across 3 classes - and it all Just Worked™ perfectly the first time I ran it. Picture-perfect output right out the gate, with the graphical design being done entirely through code juggling absolute positions.
Anyone whose done any amount of software engineering knows that code doesn't just work the first time. Any code that does is deeply suspect.
At any rate, most of my Micro-allotted development time this week went into finishing up this tool and putting together various Timelines for projects. As this image suggests, I've been putting particular focus on the Lewd LIS, with four Arcs (generically called Chapters in the tool) planned so far, with 3 of them actually drafted out (I am having a hard time finding good bondage references for the Brooke episode).
Just as a demonstration of the utility of the tool, here is what I put together the other day for the Claire/Jill Micro Arc. I haven't written out detailed episode descriptions for it yet, but I hope at least the preview descriptions and references are sufficient to impress the idea.
I think I have also finally figured out a set of poses that will work for the DOAFACU Nyotengu Micro.
I don't know if I have mentioned that before, but it is something I have been trying to figure out how to make work for weeks now. I have tried over a dozen different poses for it, none of which worked out. But I think I finally got it.
Here's the Timeline for that as well. Again, haven't written out the detailed episode descriptions yet (I slammed this together at 7am last night before going to bed - yes my sleep schedule has gotten fucked again, and yes I am writing this post on only 4 hours of sleep). And the outfit in the SFM pose cores is unfinished. But I hope this sells the idea.
As you may be able to tell, I am finding an immense amount of utility out of this Timeliner tool. The ability to organize my thoughts and references in an easily-adjustable format is in itself valuable. But the ability to quickly export and share those thoughts is where the real value comes in.
I hope you all like this black-text-on-gray-background format, because I suspect you are going to be seeing a lot of it in the future.
Now that I have the Timeliner done and working, I intend to return my Micro attention to the Chloe/Max Micro. I really need to get that project rolling, due to the sheer amount of ideas I have for Lewd LIS. The four shown here are only a fraction of all the ideas I have.
Where my Micro attentions turn next remains to be seen, but right now I'm going to reign in those ambitions and focus on Chloe/Max. Once that Arc is done, and the episodes begin rolling out, I will have plenty of time to figure out where I go next.
That's all for now. Until next week, everyone!
