Hello, everyone!
It was a productive week. I not only finished Narrative A, as I had anticipated getting done last week, but I have also finished the first sequence of Narrative B. I ended up expanding on Narrative B a bit, as compared to the storyboard, both for character development purposes, and also for cinematic purposes. Overall gave the sequence more heft, more weight for it to throw around as the mid-point pivot of the video.
As of right now, the completed Narrative A clocks in at 6:56, and the first sequence of Narrative B clocks in at 3:38. I have put together a prototype run of Sequence A, Narrative A, and Narrative B, just to see how it all flows together. All together, it clocks in at 13:40, with a brief "Sequence B goes here" intercut since, you know, Sequence B hasn't been made yet.
As always, I have elected to make that prototype available for Patron viewing.
You can click here to watch that prototype run. (Catbox.moe mirror)
This week also saw the creation of the second wholly original model for Overbreed: the medical incinerator that Mercy very pointedly does not use, which sets up the events for the rest of the miniseries.
It is closely modeled after the Inciner8 i8-M15 Medical Incinerator, with a few creative liberties taken for cinematic purposes. The most obvious deviation is the grated viewport, which is added solely so there can be a shot from inside the incinerator, of Mercy staring in as the flames burn nothing but air - juxtaposed with a J-cut of Mercy eagerly sucking herself off.
Because dramatic shots undercut with inherently absurd contexts are funny.
Indeed, part of the reason for the extension of Narrative B is to better justify why Mercy doesn't use the incinerator. In the original storyboard, there isn't really that much setup for it - Mercy tells Moira about her swallowing her own jizz, Moira is exasperated and sets to figuring out what went wrong, she tells Mercy to incinerate the samples, and Mercy just... doesn't.
I have hopefully done a better job of setting up the context behind Mercy's decision in this final version, by more clearly establishing that not only do Mercy and Moira not get along (by way of Moira chewing Mercy out over her antics), but that Mercy has a history of being a bit of a maverick, playing fast and loose with protocol in her endeavor to get the Overbreed serum to work.
So between Moira insulting Mercy and basically calling her efforts pointless, and Mercy's established proclivity to do things her way regardless of protocol, I am hoping that her decision to ignore Moira and not incinerate the samples comes through a bit more clearly.
Beyond Overbreed, I haven't made too much progress on the Micros. Been having the time allocated for them be taken up by other things. Hopefully this week I will find more time to properly progress them.
That's all for now. Until next week, everyone!
