Look above for some more fanart commissioned by Argo the Ratfolk! This one was apparently inspired by a joke from Rebellions during a TLS stream.

Anyway, now that TLS 0.73.x is finally out (and thankfully without any major issues reported) we need to have another post about the finale updates. I'm happy to report that I'm deep into that work - there's a lot, but we're the equivalent of a week or two in, not just starting now.

That said, I do admit to a certain level of... perhaps "apprehension" is the best word. I've always been leading up to a big final battle and so many elements of the game are support for it, so I wouldn't say I'm intimidated, but it's still a lot to tackle. The end of a story is essential, and even though there will be updates beyond the final battle, this sequence has to stick the landing.

Over the course of the years I've been working on TLS, there have been so many details. As many as I have integrated, I'm concerned there will be others that got lost in my notes and just aren't included. During the open world dev period someone reminded me of a variable I had forgotten about, for example. Are there even bigger pieces that will fall through the cracks until people reach the conclusion and realize they're absent?

I know expectations are varying degrees of high. If you've been enjoying TLS up to this point, I'm hopeful that you'll enjoy the conclusion I've been working toward all this time. But whew, I find myself thinking about Mass Effect and hoping I can live up to everyone's expectations. >_<

Almost out of time. The dev period will take a while yet, because it's a major sequence, but I'm in the future relative to you guys, so I feel like I'm barreling toward the ending.

I have every faith that you can give us a Mass Effect 2 ending rather than pre-DLC ME3. I still break out into a grin the first time the Suicide Mission theme kicks in, even after a good number of replays.

Take your time and don't stress - haste makes waste and all that. I personally have zero worries about what we're in for - I've been taking a bit of a break from TLS due to my optimization brain-worm especially post-Incubus War, but everything we've received so far has been fantastic. I've little doubt that whatever you have planned will be great. Also: Holy fuk that comic.

!!Attention!! The ending of Mass Effect 3 has been mentioned in an online conversation! The author of this comment is pre-programmed to say that that ending actually was pretty fucking great, and that you are a class act, if you agree with that statement!

WaxerRed

Oooh! A lovely comic!

Argo The Ratfolk

I hope everyone enjoys the comic and I for one am confident that you will make a satisfactory ending! ^~^

Ending a story is by far the hardest part of writing one, but we trust you to manage it. And even if the ending were to be disapointing (which will not happen, I think), well, the game has been great so far, therefore, it will still be a good game. About Mass Effect, yes, after release, the weak ending hurted. But the series (MEA excepted) is still a beloved one. The remaster was a success.

Those comics are awesome, great job Argo and Annikath!! As for the apprehension, I'll be cheering for you to handle it in a healthy way. I think it might be inevitable at this point, even with your experience and our faith in you, due to the time and scope of the project, but it's definitely manageable. In this context, early access is a big advantage. I remember when risk of rain 2 had a rather empty/disappointing final stage, then they eventually polished it into something nice. Of course, I'm not suggesting that everything can nor should be reworked, but I'm assuming that remembering this leeway could alleviate the pressure to some degree. I also remembered the director of ace combat 7 explaining how a really good moment on the game's final missions was added way late in development, after they already basically finished it, because he felt it needed a heart-skipping moment. Of course, this is not easy, and I don't want to imply you wouldn't be aware of how this works after all this time, but I guess this thinking works both ways: in a way it's also a reminder for me that, even if I end up disliking some stuff, things might change on a later update or perhaps when I'm at another point in life.

Runcible Technician

The chance that you are going to give us a Mass Effect 3 ending is 0%. If it's going to go in a weird direction storywise for an ending, you are much closer to Stanley Kubrick with 2001: A Space Odyssey than stupid Drew Karpyshyn.

I don't want to make any empty encouragements because it's true that no matter how much we plan things, the real thing can still feel like it falls short. That being said, over all the works I've read from you and over the years I've followed you as an author, one of the the most striking things is how much work you put to fulfill your promises. You've always communicated your plans well, and I've never seen you fail any of them. Again, no guarantees, but that commitment to deliver is one of the biggest things that has kept me a passionate follower of your work. Whatever happens, you can't go wrong with that. <3

Dragof2

I think you have every reason to believe in yourself. Across your work I think your endings/climaxes/third act twists are the best parts of your stories. The only realistic way I can see the ending to Last Sovereign falling short is by just being really good, rather than the absolute peak of the story. And that is pretty much blessing with fine criticism (I don't know if that will translate, but I'm sticking with it).

Dragof2

Your comics are awesome, finding a patreon post with them feels like getting the funnies (back when newspapers existed :-). Honestly I would love to see them in some kind of special bonus at the end of Last Sovereign, sort of like how Sierra Lee games usually have a gallery with all the discovered artwork at the end.

Argo The Ratfolk

Indeed that would be great as a sort of what if type of thing. Or perhaps if Sierra is ever willing to indulge me to such an extent, an actual scene with those two (if not also Simon as well to some extent but I must respect his orientation and all that) in the game as a fun bonus!

Argo The Ratfolk

Speaking of comics, if you happen to be a fan of her various novel series, the next comic I have Annikath doing involves one of them! ;) Also if you ever happen to have comic ideas yourself, feel free to share them with me ^~^ after all this latest comic was inspired by Rebellions for example (granted just a joke he made about Mestan's reason for coming all the way out into the wasteland/what made him stay was just to stare at Aka's ass~. (-and who can blame him? XD)

lostone2

I love the comics, they are so just damn fun. Unrelated, someone reported an oddity (it's not a bug per se, I think) in the Discord: https://discord.com/channels/896059111106551859/896275409170223144/1219465833622011994 It seems that the upgraded version of the Mother's Pin (198 in the game database) resists Profound Sexbind but not regular Sexbind. Is that intended? (BTW, this have been in the wiki for quite awhile but nobody caught it :embarrassed:).

sierralee

No, that looks like an oversight. Fixed on my end, thanks!

Upthorn

I think I've found a little issue with Vhala's Request (finally just got there after starting a new playthrough for 0.73) The interaction with Yelarel seems like it's set up to give you differing bonuses for investing in the Succubus Holy Knights depending on which church scenario you're in (succubi accepted, church diverged, new religion). However, it only lets you access the Succubus Knight bonus rewards if the Succubus Knights were accepted at Gawnfall. Unfortunately, it's only possible to get the Succubus Knights Accepted at Gawnfall in the Succubi Accepted scenario, as that issue is replaced with the Inquisition concerns in the Church Diverged scenario, and the Flexible Purity Standard in the New Religion scenario. Not sure if this is a bug where you're checking the wrong switch, or if there's supposed to be some other way to get the Succubus Knights accepted at Gawnfall...

sierralee

Took me a while to look into this, sorry. I think the most likely reason is that I forgot how the switches interacted, so there are unnecessary/inaccessible alternatives on the second page of that event.
