New version, you can get it on the blog post:

https://the-last-sovereign.blogspot.com/2017/07/tls-0280-public-release.html

0.28.3
 - Yet more polishing to war calculations.
 - On Yarra's route, the variable "Empress Approval" now works properly.
 - The Kingsmen and Queensmen bars now have more variability throughout chapter three.
 - Flower Speculation investment now removed from ledger after the reunion.
 - The Dusty Horde and AriGarda are no longer listed in the ledger after taking over Yhilin. The Iron Cudgel remains, however.
 - Since some people were unclear on this, rewrote dialogue to make it completely unambiguous when the Dusty Horde is destroyed.

Again, can't promise there won't be any changes once the whole war is complete. As you can see, I used some of the extra time to work on old problems that were never first priority, but it's nice to have cleared up.

In other news, DLsite finally put Crimson Gray up:

http://www.dlsite.com/maniax/work/=/product_id/RJ204113.html

That's all for now. I will be turning my attention more toward TLS 0.29.0, which as I have mentioned will finish the war and cover all the aftermath. I have been doing too much PR lately, so I will go a little quiet to focus on creating things. This will be your weekly update, so expect the next one on the 30th.

"On Yarra's route, the variable "Empress Approval" now works properly." How was it bugged before, and should I take this as my cue to crack open one of the old savegames?

sierralee

I wouldn't say so. Basically, she was missing enough points to reach the cutoff to get an additional day during Simon's route.

Leveler All

How fast do you work o.O i just download 28.2 a few days ago, well time to star over from scratch :p

Zyrus

Well, this is odd. My ledger is no longer counting the Aram supplier when I know for a fact that I invested in it O.o

DukeLeto7

I've never been so proud of my obtuseness!

Quiet Stranger

Thank you for the incredible scenes of the war thus far. It's been such a fantastic ride that I do wish there was a sequel, just so it didn't have to end, but I know that's not wise from a creative standpoint—the story as you planned it is exactly as long as it needs to be. Can you give me a simple description of how the taverns change? I can always go snooping myself, but is it in population, dialogue, or...?

Zyrus

On a side note: All you people complaining about blade dance being 'op'. Congratulations, you've effectively made forceful lunge the go to viable skill for Varia due to how ridiculously expensive it is to use blade dance now. Yes, I'm saying your whining ruined Varias signature skill and just made people switch skills.

Nefratum

Hey Sierra, whats the status of searching artist for TLS? ;)

Andrey Kulikov

I... really didn't notice that. I used Varia's Blade Dance a lot during the war and didn't feel much difference in comparison with past updates.

Zyrus

Try using it in the latest updates. I guarantee it feels different now.

Zyrus

I might have to resort to a save editor to fix this bug: Is there a person out there willing to help me with this, or at the very least show me how to do it myself?

sierralee

The Kingsmen bar gets emptier as Yhilin's acceptance increases, while the Queensmen bar patrons change their lines depending on different variables.

sierralee

For a period of time, I thought I had someone who might be a good long term choice, so I was optimistic. Unfortunately, new information and developments made this seem like something that might not work out, so I am afraid I am back to square one. =/ Anyone worth their salt seems to have their own Patreon and no interest in working on someone else's ideas.

Bladestorm

Hmm I usually don't use that skill time to test the difference

2026-11-01 13:00 I just had a realization that I should have noticed sooner: Yhillin succession is fucked. Seriously, at least in real world standards. Janine is the wife of the former king. The king died, and she succeeded him? Normal succession would boot her out, and the king's nearest blood relative would succeed him, if no children, then brothers. If no brothers/sisters then the uncles/aunts and cousins and whatnot. So, either Janine pulled some shit, strange times made for strange changes, she was a VERY close relative of the King, or succession works very differently here. What's up?
2017-07-23 02:29

RiMa

I thought about that too but I was enjoying the game too much so I shrugged it off. But what if the King has no relatives since it was the noble houses were throwing a coup overthrowing the monarchy.. It was not the King's loyalists were the ones responsible about that coup right? Or what if Janine was the one who is the legitimate princess to succeed but she has to marry to become Queen because everybody wants a King than a Queen like in Princess Diaries and the King might've been popular to the people specially nobles before marrying Janine (this is just my what if) . Either that or I missed reading some dialogues and just shrugged off the succession thing like I said earlier. Totally cool topic to talk about hehe... Hope Sierra Lee clarifies us about this missed detail.

Andrey Kulikov

I think there is a little bug. After seed fights Simon gives orders. And Varia answers "Yes, Master". But I have reshaped Varia, so... There're links for save and few screenshots berofe her line. <a href="https://mega.nz/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://mega.nz/</a>#!pVIlgBDS!nWCTiHH7AHpzzpw-B6d7JJgeyRNezRI4sK7i7zplctc <a href="https://mega.nz/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://mega.nz/</a>#!BFQFQaxJ!Y6-IB6xElrFiKrbgEFuGDzdMhc-jhbtqTIE2WM4BG-0 <a href="https://mega.nz/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://mega.nz/</a>#!dEQTQLzJ!Pk8WQ6-8vfU5_5IMYDMkOAQQpD6FDsibzxCZGXex8KU <a href="https://mega.nz/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://mega.nz/</a>#!AdIBDYRK!gf8xKc7Ou4mu-cKrqcUz82v5hpeF0ebNB7zrC5P0bvk

DukeLeto7

You missed something critical in Janine's back story. She and her husband were both potential rival claimants to the throne from various branches of the extended royal family, and their marriage and ascension to the throne as joint monarchs was a compromise to satisfy both of their families. The last time this was the case in British history was the reign of William (III) and Mary (II). Mary was the notional heir to the throne with her father and brother being legally dead owing to their Catholicism, but after she died, William continued to reign as King until his death when he was succeeded by Mary's sister Anne. In theory, both Janine and her husband would have been equal joint rulers, but the expectation was that the late King would be calling the shots. When the King died, she simply became sole monarch. It's not a matter of her succeeding her husband, she was just as much queen as he was king from the getgo.

Zyrus

Then either you don't pay much attention to your health and mana count during fights, or you heal so much that you didn't notice the increased health use. Trust me, consistant usage is no longer viable without a dedicated healer, and against bosses you better pray they attack one of your heavies, because if they sneeze on her, she'll die.

Andrey Kulikov

I agree with you that usage isn't viable without a dedicated healer. But active usage of Varia was always that way. At least for me... Also my Varia wasn't so bad against bosses. She usually had al least a little health after boss attack. When I decide that Varia will be in party I take either two healers or Hilstara. But in 0.28.3 I was forced to go without healer during Aram section. Yeah, I do not have Altina... And even in that case I successfully used her Dance. I think it's my play style. The point is Varia always was fragile for me and I operated accordingly.

Andrey Kulikov

And about mana count. It's same case. My Varia always expended her mana faster than others.

Andrey Kulikov

I'm very sorry to hear that. Until yesterday I thought the game will be fine without art. But final scene of the update was so good. Music was beautiful. And then I understood that I wanted a picture. I wanted to see Iris's face in this moment. Not in RPG maker dialog window but as a art. Best luck, Sierra Lee!

Zyrus

Varia, before her nerf, was capable of operating without a healer for 3 uses of blade dance, before her health needed to be dealt with. With the new nerf, you're dancing the line with even one use, because you can cleave out a good 1/3 of her health now, and if the bosses decide to go after Varia, suddenly you're near death after one turn. I find this state of affairs unacceptable, and really wish Seirra would reconsider it. Forceful lunge is now the only viable skill for consistent use.

Zyrus

The majority of artists in my experience have always been self-entitled twits who think working with others is too good for them, Sierra, so I'm completely unsurprised you're finding tons of ego among their community. Here's hoping you find someone eventually.

sierralee

Looks like one of the branches doesn't differentiate between the versions of Varia. Fixed, thanks!

Ferr

Ok i found a illusive bug, back in Yhilin just before the war starts, i found it possible to select Fuck in the sex menu with Lynine. It only is there one time and will not show in the reflect skill,. But it look like its taken out of context as part of a bigger sceen.

DukeLeto7

Minor niggling typo now that I'm replaying the invasion of Yhilin. In the throne room in the aftermath, during Simon's conversation with Sarai, he suggests that they might consider reframing Ivala as the Lustlord's concubine, "but also servant charged with certain duties." That probably should read "but also a servant...".

DukeLeto7

On demand sex scenes do not appear in the reflect menu, because you can just ask for them again.

Ferr

ok then it might be the 100 RP scene, that just blinks before she drops to 99. Looking forward to when she get to 100

No Escaping Destiny

Bug report, During the succubus hunt if you open the chest at the same time the clock runs out it freezes the game

Decanter

You're using dominated-Varia, who gets access to her special weapons when reshaped-Varia has to wait <i>and</i> has Forceful Lunge where reshaped-Varia doesn't, and you still feel this way? It could maybe use some tweaking but I don't think it's <i>that</i> bad...

sierralee

Unfortunately, that whole timer segment has been a long-running source of bugs. I'm not sure that much can be done about this one.

DukeLeto7

If so, then that scene being available may be a bug in itself.

Andrey Kulikov

I respect your opinion but I disagree. Varia is absolutely offensive type and very strong. It is only fair that her presence in party changes all tactics and requires player's attention.

Lord Forte Games

I've got to agree with those who think she' still fine. Honestly, wanting or expecting a character whose whole unique mechanic is consuming her own hp to function without a healer in a game designed so as to include dedicated healers strikes me as.. somewhat unreasonable. Especially when she's far from useless even with the change, and I say that as someone using Reshaped, meaning aside from not having her unique weapon yet, I also have a version whose special frenzy still lowers defense. Even under those circumstances, I find her more than useful enough. I barely noticed a difference between .28.1/2 and .28.3, honestly.

Nome

Sometimes when I have Varia use Blade Dance with the Crusader Sword against succubi, the first strike and only the first strike will pop up with Weakness! like I used the Attack command, but I read that skills like Blade Dance don't use the weapons equipped for applying weaknesses? On another note, did Simon's age affect his physical abilities in the Prologue, because at age 55 he was well past being able to fight if we take Hilstara's comment about only having a few fighting years left at 43(42?)?

Zyrus

Cyberforte, that isn't what I said. I said she could still use a few blade dances during fights before she required a healer. Where in that sentence did I say I wanted her to not need a healer at all? Nowhere. Right now, one use of it, and an unlucky hit from a boss, and she's in the yellow. It's a tiny bit better during regular fights, but only because shieldwall is pretty effective at taking hits. Nothing anyone has said has changed my mind so far, but at this point I'm not expecting anything, since apparently having an effective skill is too much to ask.

Lord Forte Games

Well, in that case I apologize for having misconstrued your intent--but that was the sentiment I perceived. Basically, as Sierra has pointed out previously, Blade Dance has the highest attack coefficient of any skill, so it makes sense for it to have a higher cost. I don't really feel that the increased cost makes the skill less viable, but then, on most bosses I naturally tend to have blanket healing from arousing aura or shield of purity anyway, so maybe that's why I perceive it as being fine--and also why I felt like you were saying you wanted her not to need a healer. In any case, I don't really see how you can say it's not still effective in its current state, because the damage is still quite high. Less effective, perhaps, but still certainly effective--and only moreso if you have the dominated version who can better take advantage of its high coefficient.

Zyrus

The damage is random now, and there is a much higher chance of high DPS enemies taking her down now, forcing you to use revive or support for efficient time use, in the process removing any buffs. It's viable as an 'all in' skill now with regular fights, and with a dedicated healer at that. I suppose if formulating your entire party around it's use and making it useless against bosses was the intention; mission accomplished?

muql jeij

Sierra Lee, any chance you could provide more mirrors since MEGA started limiting speed and traffic by load, country, ISP, ... and mediafire is using bad ads? Here are a few good mirror providers (in my opinion): <a href="https://filebox.moe/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://filebox.moe/</a> <a href="https://gofile.io/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://gofile.io/</a> <a href="https://nopyright.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://nopyright.com/</a>

Decanter

Varia's physical skills were changed to use elements of equipped weapons after someone noticed they didn't.

Decanter

Have you tried using an ad blocker when visiting Mediafire, or using a download manager like JDownloader for downloads in general?

Decanter

Still useful on bosses for me, even if she needs a little setup in the way of healing or defending.

Fulminato

diggin in the game file: in the aram seed 2 map if the party lose the fight increase the Yhilin CD stat (should be Aram CD)

sierralee

That's correct. As for the age question: yes, Simon was no longer in peak condition in the prologue. Being an experienced fighter can slow down the aging process, but not indefinitely.

Andrey Kulikov

All fans who work on Wiki are amazing. This article especially required a lot of time. Thank you! You all make Wiki a great place for TLS fans.

sierralee

Wow, you've certainly gone to a lot of effort on that! I am going to have to get back to you on actual feedback, though, as I need to conserve energy right now.

DukeLeto7

I have too much free time, take all the time you need. I think I was actually using it to get my brain in gear for completing something else I've been procrastinating far too long. I just made a major revision anyway. Enough evidence accrued on a new playthrough looking at date information that I had Wendis dying 7-10 years too late.

DukeLeto7

Minutiae: While doing some shopping during my final war preparations after Eustrin, after giving Stark his improved body, I happened to notice I was still holding a bag containing Stark's bloody head. Unless Stark has been practicing with Trin, this poses some logical problems...

Bladestorm

I think of it as a place holder letting you know what key items you picked up because some of the keys we have in there we haven't used again

Decanter

Yeah but it makes sense for keys not to be consumed when used. Not so with Stark's head...

ZMX

I may be quite late to the party here, but while replaying the border incident, I found that taking out one of the enemy succubi in the middle column of the northern passage blocks Palina from moving forward during her scene. The result is that the game gets stuck in that scene even though the succubus seems to disappear from the map.

sierralee

Good point. I've made a change to this section and also added a retroactive change to the beginning of the next version for old saves.

sierralee

There's one bit of information I can provide you, because I did plan out Simon's life year by year and I work out events in the game from that. Your dates are close, but often a little later than mine. Here are some relevant dates from the official timeline in my notes: 1097 - Simon is born 1112 - Incubus King invades 1115 - Simon meets Wendis 1117 - Simon and Wendis are married 1122 - War officially ends 1128 - Wendis dies 1153 - Game begins The timeline of Hilstara's life seems to be a point of uncertainty. To be clear, she fought with the Ardan forces during the Zirantian campaign, not the main war. Her feelings about Simon and Wendis were much more of a young crush than something that was too likely to be acted upon. If I imply otherwise on either account, that's a mistake. I didn't scrutinize every part of the timeline, but one note: the color of trees in Aram should not be taken as a season indicator. That's just the color of the dominant type of tree in Aram.

DukeLeto7

Technically, it probably should be de-inventoried at the start of Chapter 3, given that the bag sits on the table in the orc room the whole time...

ZMX

Another thing: funding city mercenary regulations after the border incident doesn't seem to subtract anything from my budget. Is that intentional?

sierralee

Before or after the border incident, there's only one event for that petition, and it does seem to subtract the appropriate amount from the budget, as far as I can tell. Can you check again and, if it really does subtract nothing, provide more info?

DukeLeto7

Semi-related: Was the dwarf at the Aram camps who gave Hilstara some explosives supposed to have put the explosives in the inventory?

DukeLeto7

Typo minutiae: During Simon's trip to the Ardford Military District, the dude hanging out on the Blademasters side staircase said: "The Blademasters haven't suffered as serious of (sic) consequences as many, but our numbers are fewer..."

DukeLeto7

The cases where the dates are off by exactly one year are probably just rounding error. Note that Simon says that the Incubus King invaded when he was 15. If I were about 80 years older and could say "I was 15 when the Great War began", then I might have been born in either 1898 after August or 1899 before August, so that I had turned 15 in either the first half of 1914 or would turn 16 in 1914, but after the start of the war. Since virtually all the dates in the game are relative rather than absolute... The big Hilstara issues, such that they were these: First that I was having trouble accepting that she was doing military service prior to her 18th birthday. (FYI, as I understand it the age of majority (originally knighthood) of 21 that was common in English speaking countries was a result of the invention of full plate armor, because you don't want to have to deal with constantly replacing suits of armor on a still growing teenager.) Second, the drunken conversation at the bar in Yhilin during governing Yhilin III phase seemed to indicate that Hilstara has known Simon and Wendis since before they were married, because she talks about how other soldiers censored their jokes around Simon because they could tell he and Wendis would wind up together. The implication being that she was around while soldiers were censoring Wendis jokes pre-marriage. The Hilstara problems pushed the death of Wendis and the foundation of Zirantia way late in my initial drafts of the timeline, but eventually enough evidence that Zirantia had been a thing for at LEAST 20 years pushed it in the other direction. Does the same standard of tree coloration apply to Darghelon and Gheldaron? I actually got the late summer early autumn date of the party split from the doofus soliciting donations for the Midsummer and Midautumn balls in the House of Petitions and the field of not quite ripe grain on the road to Ardford. That Aramite trees are weird makes sense given that the climate of the entire Aram area is frankly totally bonkers. (Wine producing regions far to the north of beer producing ones? A big ass desert without a coastal mountain range? Or a cold ocean current or a tropical latitude?) Some other technical questions: Where on the Arclent map is the land Ardoheim irritated Aram by annexing after the end of the official war? First I thought it had to be Feroholm and Stineford, now I'm leaning to the land west, southwest and slightly south of Feroholm, since there has to have been one Elf Kingdom in the immediate neighborhood of the Withered Mountain pre-war. What's the lifespan of Zirantians compared to humans? The Merchants' Guild representative baited Ambassador Uolian a bit at the Ardford Summit by asking if there were any Zirantians who had been alive during the war. Related, is Uyae 22 years old or "all characters are 18 or over" 22 years old?

DukeLeto7

Of course, most of the problems with the Hilstara chronology would fall away if it turned out that in addition to her lying to Yarra about being 39 in the deep tunnels of Devil's Pass, she was also lying about how many years she has been claiming to be 39 as only 2...

Decanter

On second thought, let us not go to Aram. 'Tis a silly place.

Lamsey

This reads like an Americanism to me, but I agree that it sounds jarring to non-Americans.

sierralee

Noted, thanks! I wrote what I intended here, but I was unaware that this is an American idiosyncrasy. Rewrote entirely.

DukeLeto7

Actually, I AM an American, and I think it looks wrong. It's the use of "of" that makes no sense to me grammatically. "As serious a consequence as many" would be about normal grammatical usage to my mind, but still a bit off in terms of connotation in American usage, because "consequence", in my experience and when applied to people, usually refers exclusively to (negative) results that an individual is alone responsible for, usually for some kind of rule breaking. "Private Ryan's brothers suffered the consequences of the war." is grammatically correct but bizarre, because there's no way the brothers could be considered responsible for the war that they are suffering the consequences of. If the original is an Americanism, it's idiosyncratic to some other part of the US from mine. If it's a British usage, I've never heard it. But then I thought "treacle" was some sort of meat byproduct for the first dozen Discworld novels before learning that it was actually "maple syrup", and I thought that Douglas Adams' anti-theological man who proved black was white and got killed at the next "zebra crossing" was trampled to death by zebras for an embarrassingly long time...

StalkerM1

Hey there. I found a problem for me: In the split group-part after the abduction of simon by the empress, Akas' route: To improve her situation you need to get into 3 libraries. I had all 3 in a row without speaking to Robin in between. After that got stuck, because Robin was only doing the armor-part. I couldn't take it further. though in the 3 libraries it said I already got the information. The quest section is missing the "secret library" (castle). this was my first. I did reload the beginning of the arc and with talking to robin often its fine now. Love the game! :D

Dubsington

I know of an artist or two that might be interested. One guy I am thinking of is pretty good, but his style is very different from what we've seen so far. Are you looking to maintain consistency, or are you okay with a style break?

sierralee

Though consistency is important to me, I'm always willing to consider new possibilities! After all, ev if it doesn't work for TLS, I have occasional side projects as well.
