Alright, two housekeeping issues, then trailer talk. First, the postgame is going to go public on Friday, then we'll begin talking about all the changes between this and version 1.0.0. Second, there were some mildly positive opinions about selling games directly on Patreon, but not many. Right now I'm making no changes, though all it would take is one person asking for the option for me to implement it.

(As a reminder, current patrons only need to message me for games. This would be a feature for those who don't want to use subscription services.)

That said, let's talk about the TLS trailers again! There are three files attached to this post: a new version of the first trailer, then two alternative versions of the second.

The first trailer is, again, to give a high value indicator when autoplaying. This version has a slower middle section that tries to capture some of the non-combat feel off the game: investing and having an impact on the world. While I'm open to all feedback, I can't accept every piece of it, and ultimately need to do what I think is best for the game.

The second trailer is for those who are invested enough to keep watching after that. It is too long (the video editor said as much), but it's easier to cut than to add. So if you watch, feel free to say which character spotlights you think should be kept. There are two different cuts of this one: one uses sex-adjacent art and the other does not. Of course only one version of this will be used in the end, aside from decisions about which characters remain featured.

I'm working on some other stuff too, trying to touch up the Patreon and otherwise get ready for the eventual release. But overall I'm afraid I'm a bit burnt out. Maybe I'll have good news next week, maybe it will just be a quieter check-in as I recover from the (hopefully smooth) public release. Thank you all for following my career.

That first video is really good! Particularly, the idea of investments would've probably been the hook for me. The second video is similarly good, with some suggestions. The font choices clash with the background. The sex scene images seem to fade in and out unevenly compared to the rest of the trailer. I'd add the "titfuckingggg" line from Yarra 'cause it's a really fucking good line to summarize Yarra *and* the game.

Some quick feedback: - I really like the Video 1 now. Definitely feels like a strong improvement. - Video 2 is definitely way too long. I think you only want 3-5 text boxes per character. Glad to see the improvements overall. And I'm excited to see how the community reacts to the current build going public! Congrats again!

Hello! Really glad TLS is at this stage already. You might also want to review music transitions in the second video though. They have way too different vibes and abrupt change between them is disorienting. Consider adding more pronounced fadeouts for those themes.

I do feel like these do a better job at conveying what's good about this game. I particularly appreciate that the text boxes are now on screen long enough to read! Though I now see my advice of how long to leave them on overshot the mark -- the textbox footage could probably stand to lose as much as a quarter of its length for each box... I'm still not certain that combat footage is the best opener, but this may be a case of "ask 10 people, get 10 opinions"

Glad you like the middle section better. Of course, getting the exact length for dialogue right is tricky and will vary from person to person. Regarding the opening, I'm afraid I strongly feel that all alternatives I've heard would perform worse.

Re second video: I think we went from "text boxes are unreadable blurs" to "I am wishing I could spacebar through them, who reads this slow?" (and the fact that the spacing does not quite line up with the 5 second arrow-key jump makes it even more annoying) . Obviously different strokes for different folks, but I suspect your audience is _very_ heavily biased toward people with strong English reading skills.

When hovering over a game in any Steam list, it shows a very short video. Is this yet another trailer that needs to be done? Regarding video 1: In general, starting to look good. The elven investment sequence is not exactly subtle but I think it hammers its point quite well. The harem menu montage is quite nice too. I feel like the HQ sequence is slightly too long and that it would have the same impact if it stopped after the walls shift to black. Starting with the combat feels weird but hell if I know what to put before. Some other indie JRPG seem to be "cheating" that issue by throwing in images of lavish cutscenes not done with the game engine, like in the days of old. Maybe just the Sierra Lee logo on a white or black background at the very beginning, to not open directly on a screen full to the brim with visuals?

sierralee

I'm not sure about the first part, can you give me an example list? My guess is that it pulls from the same assets (I don't see an alternative resource for this) but I may be thinking about something different. Otherwise, thanks for your feedback. I share some of your thoughts regarding the opening, but I'm afraid that a logo would be more likely to be simply ignored.

TBH

Now that the adult game banning was brought to steam, do you have any new plans for where to distribute the game? (Also, thanks for all the work!)

sierralee

I haven't been hit yet (other than everyone on itch.io being delisted), but that doesn't necessarily mean anything, and there's no defense against future moral panics. I distribute my games in a bunch of places, and I plan to add GOG to the list before too long. I intend to mention this in Sunday's post, but other than including links to remind people where I can be found, can you think of anything I could add?

two things I am missing is result differance, something like post battle for Yhilin summary "battle went surprisingly well " to "we can barely call it a victory" and long winded philosophical conversations like a short snapshot from one of orcents bar talks, or maybe the "I killed the horse" one

Wow, really nice ! EDIT : damn this text editor I would place Megail further and Sarai closer to the beginning. The issue is that I'm biased since I already know the characters (on top of my own preferences). (Also, sadly, showcasing Sarai might backfire due to, uh, misunderstandings – people don't know there are halflings in the game... perhaps this is something that one of the text boxes should spell out.) But most importantly, you need to find *somehow* fresh eyes that would criticize how this looks like to someone that doesn't know tLS.

TBH

Wow. Just learned about the itch io situation. Tbh I can't really think about any alternative, maybe some more prominent landing of the game in your blog as a way to keep promoting directly? Though it's been some time I checked it out

another cool moment in the game is the arclent war, when the cavalry captain chooses to: help succubi/orcs against the unsuccubi, leave them to die, it's a good way to showcase how you as a player can change the game's world for the better through your actions or not
