EDIT:  Links are updated to 0.44.6 to fix the heal bug and add some minor improvements. I also just put up a new art post for some patron tiers showing several of the finished scenes.

Check out the blog for the links:

https://the-last-sovereign.blogspot.com/2019/07/tls-0445-public-release.html

I'll save everything else for this week's update on Sunday. Hope you enjoy!

Hmm, are the erosian healers supposed to be completely useless? I seem to remember them being a pain to take out, but now all of their heals are "blocked." I could see there maybe being a lore reason for it considering how messed up their origins are, but since the characters didn't comment on it, I'm kind of assuming there was an improperly-coded immunity in the VSA enemies

sierralee

Thanks for the report! This is almost certainly due to the changes made to the healing spell balance, but I haven't figured out the exact issue yet. To answer your question, they're definitely supposed to be healing for a lot.

Rachnera

Is it on purpose that you can refuse to take the Mother pin to get some RP with Lynine then immediately pick it up after that with no penalty? (haven't checked myself this works, but it's listed as a, maybe out-of-date, tip on the wiki)

DukeLeto7

OK, thanks to Scoutman we've found a minor issue in the calculations before the final fight. Fuck Palace map EV001. The calculation uses Temp2 to check what bonus Tower Front and Erosia score you receive prior to the FL fight, but the checks for [FL Injury] and [FL Injury 2] each increment Temp1 by 1 instead of Temp2.

DukeLeto7

Minor issue, Hilstara's new Erosian Front map doesn't quite cover the screen's right edge.

sierralee

Temp1 bug is fixed, and I'm sure Lamsey can help with the maps. Thanks!

Lamsey

I'll take a look when I'm back home tomorrow evening.

David Harper

Is there a trick to the fight against the Erosian forces? That last battle in the temple - the one where they claim it is their last stand - has defeated me six times in a row, which is something I've never experienced aside from the optional battles. Between the reaper's attack and the succubi's sexy glance, I'm lucky if I can take down a single enemy before all four of my characters are killed.

DukeLeto7

Vhala's Offensive rain is going to be your friend here. Bulk debuffs to them, keep Carina buffing your defense. and mass healing Have Robin and maybe also Riala use fire attacks to bring down the captain, than ice on the reaper and succubus.

DukeLeto7

There's also something wrong with Uyae's interactions with the Antiala statues.

Leveler All

is it me or when you unzip the nwe verison, you can't no longer transfer saves?

Decanter

Defensive Rain. It's easy to get them mixed up, but you want the one that reduces enemy attacking power.

David Harper

Thank you! I was able to beat them by trying this strategy. It looks like I should have focused on the captain first.

DukeLeto7

Derp. Decanter is right,

DukeLeto7

They don't happen when you click the action button to look at the statue. WHY is above my RPG Maker pay grade...

2026-11-01 13:00 Nice update! When one looks at the entire war the scale is impressive. Lots of stuff going on. Bit late for number/balance stuff so I'll focus on general thoughts: -Estvan's last act of defiance fits him perfectly. Splitting his own shard is just the sort of spiteful "fuck you" that encompasses his character. >I wonder if the minor shards and the potential for new IKs will force another Gathering. Considering the number of major IKs left, and their openly hostile relationship to one another, I doubt it. Although it might be worth doing to get all the newbies in one place to fight over them and it would be interesting to see a Gathering as a major player, rather than a newbie trying to avoid getting squashed. >Dealing with the tiny shards sounds interesting in general. I wonder if someone will use one for evil (or good) beyond just trying to become an IK. There are many possibilities. >Speaking of shards I wonder how the Incubus Emperors shard is doing. Simon's had it for awhile and while it was mentioned hes still working on it, I wonder how close he feels he is. -Lots of interesting Tower stuff. From Antiala, to the Ghenalon Sage, to the Goddess of Magic, to the New Guy in White. So much more to speculate, so many possibilities! >That doesn't even touch on Mestan's new friend, Shining Swords, Demons, and many other things. We may have a chapter left still but it feels like there is still a lot of ground to cover and mysteries keep growing. -It feels like everyone got their time to shine here, especially Baila. No bench warmers in this harem. >Wynn was a pleasant surprise. > Regarding Wendis, I worry letting her torture the fucklord will have consequences. Seems like it is almost too good a choice with no downsides. -When Simon thanks Wynn post battle he mentioned that without her help Uyae may have died. Altina and Varia were there too. Was Simon not concerned about them or am I missing something? Gonna do a deeper dive/replay once chapter 4 finishes. Chapter 4 feels like the most complicated one yet! Looking forward to each update.

Decanter

We can only hope torture turns out to be the wrong choice. As it is, it doesn't even cost any RP with anyone.

sierralee

Wrong priority layer. Fixed, thanks!

sierralee

Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed the update! >Although it might be worth doing to get all the newbies in one place to fight over them and it would be interesting to see a Gathering as a major player, rather than a newbie trying to avoid getting squashed. I also think this is interesting. >Speaking of shards I wonder how the Incubus Emperors shard is doing. Expect practical impacts at the beginning of the next chapter. >We may have a chapter left still but it feels like there is still a lot of ground to cover and mysteries keep growing. I wondered whether or not people would feel that way. I hope it won't feel that way for long: elements are being tied together and you'll start seeing the field of mysteries get thinned further. >When Simon thanks Wynn post battle he mentioned that without her help Uyae may have died. Altina and Varia were there too. Was Simon not concerned about them or am I missing something? Simon wasn't referring to Uyae exclusively. I can rewrite the line if enough people find it an issue.

genericname12345

Hey, Sierra, will there be another opportunity for investments between now and the end of the chapter? I remember you saying something that there'd still be one more left - but were you just referring to the Kyangen, or will there be a last opportunity to nab the IK pin?

sierralee

The latter. You'll get investment changes next update.

DukeLeto7

Trivia: Looking at the parameter curves for the "Doom King" class, there are a bunch of strange point discontinuities in the line. It's probably irrelevant since that class isn't going to have leveling any time soon... It just looks very weird.

sierralee

If you look at the actor, you'll note that the Doom King is restricted to always be level 60, which is also the point of the discontinuities. So the overall curves are the default lines given by the engine, while the values at level 60 are the Doom King's hand-crafted stats.

genericname12345

Oh, that's nice. Also, I kind of hope that it turns out the torture was just the unambiguous 'right choice' - mostly since the FL really had it coming and Wendis should get the chance to let loose some steam. And it did seem that she got a lot more introspective out of it to boot.

WaxerRed

I find myself going back and forth on that choice. Not for the FL's sake ,fuck him. But for Wendis. On one hand I worry that while that level of sadism might bring her a little relief it may also have long term consequences. On the other hand if she has the anger inside her, I don't want her to bottle it up. And if there ever was a good punching bag to vent anger it would be on the fucklord. I want to say I emphasize with Wendis's position but I can't. I can't put myself in the same shoes as someone who was tortured for 40 years straight, and certainly not judge them on what's right or wrong in such an already grey area as torturing a monster like the FL. Not that Wendis makes it any easier. She has shown on more then one occasion that she has a habit telling people what they want to hear. (Made all the more literal by the fact that she literally has two separate personalities split. The cheery side up top, and the world ending side down below that only Simon has been given a glimpse of.)

Suggestion: Why not make Zirantia more or less resilient to damage in this war based on a higher or lower Zirantia CD from way back in the 3rd Arclent War? Is "Great Thenours War" now canon? If so what do we call the Erosian Prelude in Arclent?

2026-11-01 13:00 This is a potentially good idea, but I don't want to retroactively change the balance this much. I'd also need to look into how much Zirantia CD impacted the core variable before, as that might lead to effectively double penalizing/rewarding the player. >Is "Great Thenours War" now canon? If so what do we call the Erosian Prelude in Arclent? There's no canon name, sorry. Ghenalon will call it the Great Thenoursan War, while the internal labels will stick with Erosian Prelude and Erosian War.

Unrelated to war balancing, but is it intended for Public Works 1 to have a cosmetic change even during Yhilin Final? Right now Yhilin Final alone doesn't add the statues that Public Works 1 does, but in my mind it makes more sense for Yhilin Final to be homogeneous across games

DukeLeto7

People on the wiki will just have to keep reading about the Arclent and Thenours Phases of the Erosian War like common animals then... FWIW, there doesn't seem to be any direct impact of the Zirantia CD and Zirantia country scores going into either the Prelude or the War events. Zirantia country impacts the size of the auxiliaries and quality and thus the Ghenalese Front events, so this could be a secondhand influence on the Zirantian Outcomes if it means that resources can be routed to Zirantia instead of Ghenalon, but that's it. Zirantia CD is only checked in the calculation on whether Sarai presents her special petition in the 3AW aftermath conference room. Here are the Zirantia CD determinants, if interested: +2 if you reforced both Ardoheim and Aram border. +2 if you lose the fight against the Zirantia seed of corruption. +2 if you lose the fight against the second Zirantia seed of corruption, if both border are reinforced. +1 if Zirantia Investigation score is less than 15. +2 OR +5 if you choose to support the Old Zirantia League at the end of Zirantia section or not. +5 if the Doom King don't go to Zirantia after the Fucklord attack. -3 or +2 if you found the Zirantia Aid Petition or not. -1 if you dont support anyone in Zirantia and talk to Byue for an exclusive trade relationship with the NUP.

DukeLeto7

Pursuant to the above, it looks like the taxing of resources alluded to by Robin in the discussion of Sarai's petition noted above has yet to eventuate.

sierralee

Thanks for gathering that data - I couldn't remember if I gave Zirantia CD a direct impact. >Pursuant to the above, it looks like the taxing of resources alluded to by Robin in the discussion of Sarai's petition noted above has yet to eventuate. Uh, are you 100% sure on that? My notes say I got that included, but my notes are not perfect.

sierralee

Intended, yes. Though I do understand your perspective, I was actually concerned that Yhilin Final would feel too much like it paints over previous player decisions.

DukeLeto7

Self Switch again, maybe?

DukeLeto7

Nope, there it is preventing Robin from doing her Interstitial Research. I'm stupid.

XJ84

Ah that's interesting that you felt it might've overrided the player's previous decisions. That's actually not something I really considered, but I can see that being a concern. On an absolutely, totally unrelated note I will be replaying the Reunion/Summit section because fuck I love statues.

Decanter

Personally I'm not that fond of the statues so I appreciate the way this shook out.

2026-11-01 13:00 Just finished checking 0.44.5 and didn't find anything not already reported, other than the latest "how the fuck am I only just noticing this" typo: looks they -> looks like they? https://www.dropbox.com/s/7z4fn5xiirglpuv/Screenshot%202019-07-31%2017.33.08.png?dl=0

Can you give me the context for that typo?

Lamsey

Ghenalese Battlefield, second visit, second event (i.e. after lowering the defences so that the Rodak Elites attack).

Desertopa

> Regarding Wendis, I worry letting her torture the fucklord will have consequences. Seems like it is almost too good a choice with no downsides. Might just be giving the player the opportunity to play out their own moral philosophy? I chose not to, partly because I thought indulging her own wrathfulness might not be good for Wendis psychologically, and partly because I believe that the only positive moral value of any punishment like that is as a deterrent. Since probably nobody will ever know either way, and the threat of being destroyed is still a substantial deterrent, I figured, as hateable as the Fucklord might be, answering only to myself it didn't feel like the right thing to do. I was actually worried a bit about the opposite, that some of your allies might hold it against you if you let him off too lightly.

Desertopa

>I find myself going back and forth on that choice. Not for the FL's sake ,fuck him. But for Wendis. On the other hand if she has the anger inside her, I don't want her to bottle it up. And if there ever was a good punching bag to vent anger it would be on the fucklord. My instinct regarding this was the opposite. The whole idea of "letting out" emotions by venting instead of bottling them up just doesn't seem to work as a matter of human psychology. Emotions aren't resources drawn from limited reservoirs, and patterns of thought and behavior become more entrenched with repetition. Of course, in a work of fiction, we can't always assume the same rules apply, but I've gotten used to expecting that Sierra Lee has generally read the same psych research that I have.

DukeLeto7

Out of morbid curiosity, what turned out to be the cause of the enemy healing issues?

sierralee

The updated healing equations have a new component you can see in the database that basically adds "+ (level-based number)". Some enemies use the same skills as the party. I figured that enemies would have no level and thus the second part of the equation would evaluate to zero, changing nothing, but instead the ENTIRE equation became zero, possibly due to error handling.

Andrew Hughes

I just assumed it had something to do with the anti fucking magic spel in the country. So...guess i'm terrible as a game reviewer. :D

DukeLeto7

Well, it could be worse. At least you're not using an engine like Unity and a genre like Kerbal Space Program that necessitates tons and tons of floating point numbers and a lot of precision. The most annoying thing in that game is the periodic floating point errors that cause your craft's velocity, and thus its orbit, to start to change despite there being no thrust. Or you could be playing with pointers in C++ and risk overwriting the OS in RAM. From a programming standpoint what you're describing is most likely the enemy levels being "Null" and not 0. In most high level programming languages any arithmetic or logical calculation in which one of the operands is Null, the output is also Null. It represents the absence of information instead of the known value of 0.
