My week was productive but bad. I know I've said this before, but I really do not like the marketing aspects of my job. This week I've done a number of things regarding algorithms, covers, and so on that are probably more important to success than actual craft, but they're just not enjoyable for me.
Their actual drain on my time isn't so high, but their effect is outsized. Certain activities just drain the creative energy out of me (and before someone advises delegation, I don't see how that's possible in many cases). So I got less writing and core creative work done than I wanted.
For example, I just slogged through setting up a pre-order for Street Cultivation, since according to articles that's what's necessary these days. I've done networking that's gotten me a promo trade with a pretty big author. They also say that release momentum is becoming increasingly pay to play, so I'll have to decide if I want to put more time into getting the Amazon ad system right. I'll do an at least adequate job on things, but I need to finish that and do a lot of creative work or I won't meet my targets.
Random junk also came up. My audiobook narrator had been making excuses for a while but finally decided to retire for good. Since this isn't something I'd want to deal with in the best of times, I just don't have the bandwidth to force it.
So yeah, that was my week. I'm further along in everything and hopefully I have a bunch of non-creative work behind me.
