Events ganged up on me this week. -_- I'm not going to pretend that every single hour was absorbed by unavoidable events, but they ate up way more of my week than normal. Look at all my distractions:

The first audiobook for TWC came out! This involved some rushed work with final pickups and jumping through publisher hoops, but it looks like we scraped in before the deadline, so Audible released it before the holiday rush. My reward... getting to do a bunch of promotion this weekend. I'm afraid that audiobooks are one of the only things I legally can't provide to all patrons, but you're as eligible for the random free copies as anyone else. If you're already a heavy Audible user, I might be able to give you a reviewer copy.

$10 patrons got a new set of finished scene art.

The plumbing company finally got to me, so I had plumbers around for three entire days. Fortunately, they've finished the work and my house should be much better prepared for this winter than the last one.

A medical appointment ended up taking hours longer than it was supposed to. Fortunately, all results are back and I still have a clean bill of health.

Trying to go to a book club, only to find that the organizers were a complete mess and I'd wasted my time. I don't have a high appetite for social stuff, but I always try to attend things that actually look interesting, so it sucks that this one was a wash. I will never leave the house again.

Shuffling around disgruntled due to weird sales numbers, trivial incidents, and frankly just because that's my personality.

There was good stuff too! A patron used the $50 tier to suggest a new feature for the player base. I thought their idea was pretty cute, and it inspired some creative work, so that led to some planning with Annikath. But though I think you guys will really enjoy this feature, it's not work on the upcoming update, so it is a distraction.

Writing this whole post instead of a short one.

Now, this stuff doesn't make it impossible to get work done. I did manage some. But I'm not as far along as I wanted to be on the TLS update and it rankles.

Oh great getting to do promotional work - which we all know you love so much - after an already frustrating week. Combined with a failed book club that was supposed to be fun and people having to *be in your house* for *three days* to do work, I'd want to go full hermit too! Still, I'm glad you're healthy and that you should hopefully be safe and comfortable for the winter. I am very intrigued about what that feature suggestion could have been that necessitated coordinating with Annikath!

I don't want to distract myself too much, but I do want to tease, so I'll just say one thing: diegetic art.

Always exciting to get a TWC release. I don't usually listen to audiobooks, but I can recommend it to some friends and family. (And I enjoyed seeing the Soulhome 201 post on Reddit.)

!!! YES !!! Now I'm just imagining something like being able to buy art for the palace in the decoration shops... or maybe Wendis takes up disturbing gothic art while Qum becomes Arclent's Jackson Pollock XD

The book or writing club my wife belongs to, shut things down for a few months, but then resumed after the vaccine was available, although everyone still wore masks for a few meetings even still. They even go to writing conventions here in Oklahoma.

sierralee

Glad you enjoyed it! And thank you for the recommendations - word of mouth is still the most powerful force in publishing.

The pandemic is unfortunately not taken as seriously as it should be here, but I am vaccinated and boostered, plus I hope this group would be more cautious than average.

Awesome the brain gears are grinding with that hint! I cant wait to see what you guys do. It would be awesome if Yarra had the idea to immortalize the harem with statues of themselves kinda like the Incubus ruins had or maybe Orcent could be a talented artisan since he is a man/orc of many talents. Its always great to see more art of your characters.

At least you tried the book club thing. My last in person book club had a guy with the neckiest of beards that dominated every meeting with suggestions to read the cringiest spin-off sci fi novels. You have my sympathy.

So, SL, good news and bad news. Bad news: We've got another bug report implicating the party shift mechanic from the Ordeal of the Claw dungeon in Zirantia. This time someone was using a PS4 controller, and either the Steam support for them wasn't all it's cracked up to be or the controller was miscalibrated/getting faulty, but what happening was that the "R" button was constantly being pressed. In the public build of 0.58.3, this caused the game to try and switch from Yarra's party to Simon's the instant the map loaded, crashing the script and the game. The player was able to work around the bug by mapping the "R" button to a different control, but it's another manifestation of the bugs thisgamething reported a few months back. Good News: I've implemented a fix for the game code to quash all of these bugs. (Except the infinitely pressing "R" button, assuming it isn't the bug reporter's controller.) I've pinged thisgamething to have him beta test the modifications and I guess I could ask Decanter to look it over to make sure I haven't done anything incredibly stupid. The best way to get it to you is probably going to be to upload the *.rvdata2 files corresponding to the maps for the Ordeal of the Claw dungeon and the Incubus Castle to Mediafire and Patreon PM you the links once it's been tested. I can include an explanation of what I changed and why in the PM. It might also be a good idea to check to see how many other players have been using a PS4 controller on Steam to play TLS. (Although figuring out how to get the f***ing thing to support that kind of controller if it is a problem with RPG Maker/TLS and not this one guy's controller being broken is not something I'd have put on my Christmas list.)

Though I'm usually hesitant to upload something I haven't tested myself, if the bug reporter and Decanter have both double-checked it, then I'd be happy to swap in the fix. Thanks for taking a look at this.

Runcible Technician

Using controllers on steam is a path of peril. I still can't play Death Road to Canada on my main pc.

UPDATE: Decanter has made his code review and revisions, and we're having thisgamething test what is hopefully the penultimate build.

Who is the Blond Girl in the 2nd and 3rd pictures, Zelica perhaps?

DukeLeto7

Consensus in the commenters of the Dec 19th post is that it's Ivala.

STATUS UPDATE: So it turned out the fix to the party switch mechanic eliminated all of the known bugs but created an entirely new class of bugs. If you time the button press just right while moving, it allows you to have one of your parties step into a tile with an event without triggering the event. All sorts of game breaking fun to be had with that. There's a solution, but it basically entails my adding defensive code for every party touch event in both maps. Good times. So anyway, frustrating distraction for you in the form of a question about a possible plot hole. Yarra's group can fight what Uyae identifies as a group of possible Ordeal cheaters in the South Central room containing Switch #5. Yarra notes that "Well, now they're another headache the other group will have to help us take care of." But there doesn't seem to be any indication that Wynn ever goes through the barrier to assist with memory wiping that group. The dialogue makes a big deal of Robin getting Yarra's group out by opening the portal temporarily, but there's nothing about members of Simon's party going through to deal with these mooks. Or have I missed something?

sierralee

Yeah, fixes creating bugs is one of the things I was worried about. Thanks for testing thoroughly. Re: Wynn - I don't know, don't they have general control of the trial by the end? Wynn presumably took care of things during the fade out.

DukeLeto7

It's clear they have general control of the upper level before and after the ambush, but the difficulty of getting through the barrier is also talked up, so it could be questioned if they are able to cross it at will into the lower portion after the party rejoins. Since we're making under the hood revisions to the map anyway, I'd consider adding some lines dependent on the self switch of the cheater group, something like "we have some knocked out Zirantians on our side"/"OK, have Aka/Hilstara and Uyae bring them up and we'll take them through with you." or "We can worry about that after we extract you.". But it's your call. One idea might be that Wynn has a range on her memory manipulation magic and no need for line of sight, but that raises the question of how they managed to knock themselves out in a sealed area at the same time Yuanuoun and his party supposedly blundered into the ordeal area in the "Zirantia Solution 3" scenario.
