I think the juxtaposition between the two plotlines has made this the most interesting part of the story so far.

“This can’t go on, Hadrian.” - So get underhanded as well. Maybe some sort of 'hunt' for the bandits that are attacking you. There's no *need* to declare war to kill those engaged in assanination, banditry, and anything else that may strike a fancy. Preparation for a declaration can always be made before the declaration too. Oh. . . Tomorrow. Welp. Salvos only says she's three because it makes her older, doesn't she?

I would have expected that Salvos would have an idea to lead the pursuers through monster lair from earlier.
