"AA is dead" Helldivers 2 was one of the most successful games this year lol. There are games being made all the time by small teams that cost $20-$40 and are called "indie" but if you took the game itself and put it in 2008 it would fit right in with those good AA games. AA "died" in budget only, because indie games got good enough to fill a lot of that space at a much lower cost.
