I played some Assassin's Creed Shadows today, and here's the archive of that. I'd say I'm mostly enjoying it, but I'm also really curious to see how it runs on a PC when that version comes out later tonight. I'll also check it out on a Steam Deck, since it's verified there.

I'm slightly surprised by how similar it is to the previous batch of "big" Assassin's Creed games? Maybe that says more about me not paying close attention to preview coverage than anything else, but I'm of the mind that the franchise is due for yet another large change, and the half-step backwards they did for Mirage just didn't really cut it for me.

As an aside, this game ended up being the one that caused me to give up on HDR, because the game was way too frickin' dark to play. I went through and calibrated the screen on my LG C1 back when I got it, but this--and a number of other games on PS5--just seemed way too dark over the years. So I finally recalibrated around SDR and found that to be much more playable. I think if I played in a dark, dark room more frequently that I'd probably just try to recalibrate for HDR and see if that helps, but I'm typically playing with the lights on, window open, all of that. Maybe my kids got the remote and messed up the settings? I don't know. Either way, I was happy to get things to a place where they looked good, sharp, and visible and I'll probably leave it that way.
