Jeff Gerstmann and Glenn Rubenstein reunite after literal decades to discuss what the heck they were up to in the early 1990s. For Glenn? Months of training to be on the stand as an expert witness in a high-stakes trial. For Jeff? A strong desire to see what the "Super Famicom" was going to be all about. But in the end, one name was absolutely inescapable: Nintendo. In this episode we cover Nintendo's bold moves to reignite North America's dead console market, Sega's weak initial attempts to counter, and... the most ill-advised public access comedy sketch of all time. Welcome to Game Boyz II Men!

A video version of this program is also available here on Patreon. Thanks to all of you for your generous support of this and all my endeavors, I hope you appreciate this regular look back and how the heck I ended up in this weird line of work in the first place and our look at just how different this industry truly was, back before it was filled with public companies and venture capitalists and, well, all the stuff we tend to complain about when it comes to the games business these days. Was it better back in 1991? Uh... not exactly.

Are we able to subscribe to these on our podcast feeds? or is it only on Patreon? EDIT: Nevermind, it automatically added it to my feed when I upgraded my membership! What a great system :)

I was going to say the same thing until I read this comment! I downloaded it this morning via patreon in a rush before work without checking. Had to add it to my podcast app manually like I was some kind of savage.

This is the best podcast show ever created. Feel free to quote me.

Just finished listening - Glenn's Game Genie expert witness story was amazing - thanks for sharing that. This is the deeply personal podcast that I always wanted from you Jeff - thanks so much!

This is a great podcast, I find myself interested in everything these two have to talk about and I really enjoy hearing their own personal journeys from their introduction into gaming. Jeff’s making good content worthy of my Patreon funding.

Love how Nintendo was telling people to “get good” a few decades early on the game genie difficulty modifications
