It's time to break out the big first-party guns, and I'm not talking about the Zapper. Super Mario Bros. joins the list this week along with Tecmo World Wrestling, Solstice, Zombie Nation, and more!

This series has been a lot of fun and I'm hope you're enjoying watching it as much as I am making it. I find myself, like, brushing my teeth at night and thinking about the potential ramifications that some games will have on the list. Like... where will Castlevania end up? What about Chiller? How mad are people going to get about RPGs when I start getting those on the list? Am I really going to have to play more Milon's Secret Castle someday?

Anyway, I'm embedding the most recent installment here, which links through to a YouTube playlist for the series. But really I just wanted to post the most recent version of the list here for people looking for a hard copy. I'll eventually host this somewhere nicer than this.

Oh, speaking of which, I set up a cleaner redirect for the energy drink list, so you should be able to hit http://energy.guard.bike/ and get the latest version of that.

And with that, here's the list! Keep in mind that it contains the games ranked in the above episode, which.. I don't know, maybe that counts as spoilers. Be warned! Check out this Zombie Nation box art, just as a little palette cleanser before we get into the list. See ya soon!

The pile driver! It's doomsday for the skull.

Enjoying this series so much, and I think the best reason for why it really works is because it's taken seriously. I like the idea of just looking at it in it's rawest form of would I rather play this or that. It's made me have thoughts similar to Jeff here but for my own tastes of "man, it would be really fun to just put together my own top 100 games list" Can't wait to see where princess tomato and bucky o hare end up on the list. Two of my own childhood favorites that shift slightly into the lesser known side of things.

man, that 80s crafts vg box art was something special

Andrew Jackson

I'm glad Rygar got its time in the sun on top, and hopefully that convinced some folks to play it who hadn't considered it before.

Robbles

I enjoy this series for Jeff’s rigorous application of the scientific method.

I hadn't played Zombie Nation before nominating but had read a bit about it. Some fun facts about this weird-ass game: in the Japanese release, it's a Tengu mask instead of a samurai head floating around shooting alien ships. I guess they used a Samurai head in the US release because the weapon he is after to stop Darc Seed is a samurai sword. The Japanese release is considered a kusoge, probably because it's weird but also due to its difficulty level.

Charles Howitt

My main recommendation Little Samson was already played so here's some more Monster Party Fester's Quest George Foreman KO Boxing

Shane Mulcahy

Three more for consideration down the line! 1. Balloon Fight 2. S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team Never played this and for all I know it could be a compete sack of dung, but I have to suggest it for the title alone. The title we got over here in Europe ain't quite as good: Action in New York. 3. Snake Rattle N' Roll Personally have only experienced the Mega Drive version. Not the biggest isometric lover myself, but I remember enjoying the early handful of levels of this slippy and slidy platformer with my brother back in the day...until it got too tough! Cheers for this great series! 👍

Just in case your checking both posts... Outside of Super Spike V Ball and Caveman Games... I'd actually love to get your take on Star Soldier. I feel like that's one game that just didn't get traction in the US but was a cultural phenomenon in Japan. Even the people who liked it in the US, you had nothing like what was happening in Japan. Also, ease into role playing games with the pseudo-RPG that is Casino Kid.

Jason Jablonski

I would like to see Metal Storm and Star Tropics ranked is possible. And while we are at it, the Mega Mans.

AJ

love this series! suggested game for the list: T&C Surf Designs: Wood & Water Rage (the game that I believe could have the biggest disparity between my opinion of it as a kid and my opinion of it now)

Michael

A game I recommend that I played a lot as a kid. HIGH SPEED PINBALL. Haven't played in it in a long time, but looking back at it, nostalgicly at least, I love that game.

Raymond Contreras

Linus Spacehead's Cosmic Crusade. If you're into NES games... this is one of them.
