See, I KNOW he's not a good guy but if you didn't know the rest of it then like....y'know, still sort of Red Flag-y but a lot of it I was listening and going "oh no this actually is framed to sound romantic OH NO" and I'm a little in love with him. Especially at the end there, I was like "......y'know, maybe not so bad" and then immediately had to smother the logical part of me. I'm in danger with this man... Fabulous work as always!

Blake has become a problematic favorite of mine. Mostly cause I am a sucker for the whole "I'll burn the whole damn world down for you" thing.(which says a lot more about me than anything else) Logically, I know Blake is not a good person. He's a big walking red flag of nope! I know that the chances are high that Blake and his "Friend" are not going to get a happy ending. But as Dr Marcus said "But Damn if it isn't going to feel good on the way down" And, it's a testament to the writing and acting that it's easy to see how someone can fall for this.

I remember when Blake first came onto the scene and I was immediately on guard with the ‘yandere’ label he was given after Ivan’s videos, but each video my guard has come down as he’s so different from Ivan. Blake tricks you into thinking he’s just this troubled guy who truly cares for his friend but sometimes in the tone of his voice or the particular word choices he uses you can sense something darker. And it’s troubling that my head is screaming ‘it shouldn’t be hot but it is!’ When ordinarily I wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole because of his relationship with closeknitt and what he’s putting Sunshine and Elliot through, yet with his friend he’s like a completely different person, and I totally forgot about sunshine for the length of the video. It’s like one of those things where IRL he’d be a walking red flag and you’d go ‘nooooope!’ but the way Erik writes him is so good seeing as none of us are hating the guy! He plays on his friend’s (and arguably our) emotions and his past with them, pulling strings, but logically if you step back you can see that this isn’t going to end well. It never does with yanderes, especially those who are part of an extremist group who is hurting another listener! I just hope that the friend can pull Blake into the light they keep talking about, away from Closeknitt and what he’s doing there. Maybe (I hope) they stumble in on a plan or discover something and threaten to pull away and it’s a choice between the friend and closeknitt. Either way, I’m both nervous and excited to see what happens next, and learning how Blake came to know that they are going to die, and how it’s supposedly going to happen and when 😅

I agree, though with the yandere thing, even Blake's listener threatening to pull away (unless I misunderstood you there), would put them in hot water most likely. I had a friend who found themselves in the company of a yandere, and they didn't feel safe until they moved to another country and cut all their ties with the person (changed their name and everything), because when they started to act even a little distant, their yandere showed "signs" of "oh if it helps I'm not above hurting you if it can fix whatever is happening". Truly a horrifying situation to be in.

its probably a total coincidence, but i noticed a theme of light based pet names in the balance series? because we have Sunshine, Starlight, and i know bestie doesnt have an official petname yet, but through the whole audio they're being compared to light? i just thought that was interesting

RUN. I’m honestly only putting myself through his videos for continuity and plot purposes that’s it. I’m here cause Elliott, Sunshine, and Brachium (and now Aaron) are worth this pain.. kinda

So what we are really getting here is "A Villain's Origin Story - Dreamwalker Edition". I was almost feeling some pity for little Blakey...almost. Who here believes he is going to be able to "manage" those feelings if they are ONLY FRIENDS? I now have a BINGO on my Scumbag Blake BINGO card - "I won't be able to give you space, I can't give you distance" pushed me over the edge. Just like I said yesterday, I expected tears and pillow screaming with this three part series. Yesterday was the tears and today is screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" over and over into my pillow!! Can't wait to find out which we have in store tomorrow (well, later today). Will it be tears, screaming, or both? Can't wait to find out.

I haven't found too much true "coincidence" in this world (again, Erik plays a long game, so it could be years before we figure out the meaning, but I'm guessing there is a meaning to it).

So, like, yes. Ok. Blake is a big ole red flag flapping in the wind. But there is no other character whose voice soothes me and lulls me to sleepy comfort like Blake’s does. He’s hypnotic. So if I’m goin down, at least I’m going down in that soft, fuzzy, blurry consciousness that Blake leads me to.

Just to add as I have another thought…what if Aaron and Elliot see the Friend? Like they see them hanging out with Blake and Elliot realises that the Friend is the one Blake is so attached to and wants to save, and so they either capture them and try to use them for a swap (sunshine for Friend) or they try to convince Friend that Blake is bad and reveals all the bad things they’ve done and what Closeknitt is all about, opening their eyes, so to speak). It’s also killing me that we don’t know how or why Friend is going to die and how Blake knows of it! Did he meet a seer? Did they tell him about this? Ughhhh I need answers 😂

i honestly have a theory that they're in the exact same situation as elliot and sunshine. like they both got in too deep and they erased his friend's memories or something, but there are a lot of plot holes that come with that. like "why not just remove both of their memories, what would blake have that they want", and "how did they get involved in the first place." still absolutely would not be an excuse for any of what blake's done.

i dont think its been stated explicitly, but it seems to be implied that they're empowered, but we dont know in what way. i think Bestie might just be a freelancer. again, just speculation, but from the way Blake has talked in the past and how Elliot assumed Closeknit probably wouldnt welcome unempowereds into their meetings, im pretty sure Bestie is empowered

I devoured this hook line and sinker, it sounds so utterly perfect and everything I would love to hear from a potential partner, and then I read all of these comments saying how manipulative and abusive he's being and now I'm really scared for what this means about me and my preferences 😭, cause that's not how I saw it at all. I guess it's better to figure this out here vs. getting into something legitimately problematic in the real world, but it minutely gives me pause all the same.

So many romance novels have this character as the hero and any other behaviors are excused, and it's SO tempting to think you're the person your partner changes for.... sadly, it happens so often in fiction and noooot so much in reality...)

Sure yeah I guess I get it, I do agree that conflict makes great stories. Kinda mad about Bestie/ Blake’s listener being just another stupid b!tch or a victim like I just want for ONCE for the listener to be the bad guy or AT LEAST be a badass and not fall for manipulation. Blake’s not for everyone like he just makes me mad and I actually punched a wall listening to this audio💀 so yeah different tastes🤷‍♀️

I have listened to this WAY too many times because his voice is so damned soothing, and man oh man is it fascinating to go back (especially after his latest audio!) and examine all the layers of dialogue and see how it changes after we get more of his story. Erik, I know this is a broken record by now because we're all saying it, but this is truly phenomenal writing.
