It's a special politics-only episode of the Patreon podcast! In this bonus episode, David and @joyonapping discuss the following topics:

The media coverage of the Biden/Trump Presidential debate

The attempt on Donald Trump's life

The Republican National Convention

The recent France/UK elections

Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the Presidential race

NOTE: I don't usually cover politics extensively and I don't think most of you back me to hear my political views. You should assume this will be a one-off episode unless I receive a lot of feedback suggesting otherwise. As always, thanks for your support as I try out different content types on the Patreon!

PATRONS: You can get this audio in your podcast app by going to patreon.com/davechen, going to the "My Membership" section, and copying and pasting the RSS link to your podcast app.

At the end of the day, it’s pretty impressive that we still have a country. Love you guys. Keep up the good fight.

Gregg D.

Appreciate hearing your thoughts. I really wanted some reasonable perspectives on the day’s events, and honestly a lot of political media just doesn’t provide that.

Rachelle

Just wanted to comment that I appreciate your politics commentary, even as someone not from the US

I’m grateful for this frank, impassioned conversation; y’all made me feel less alone in my fear and anger…for me it’s mostly anger, I just hope I can channel it in productive ways. (My stand-in object for voting is a broken toaster over Trump, rather than a head of lettuce.)

This was a great one, @joy and Dave. Really appreciate the ardent and raw thoughts, y'all. Thanks for sharing. Also, great RATM pull

Gary Yarbrough

Was thrilled for an alternative than the punditry. Thank you as always for your passionate honest discussions.

Patrick Neon

Great episode! Great to hear your thoughts on this remarkable times we all live in.

Joy, the rage is so real, right there with you. Loved this conversation, y'all. Would enjoy more of these in the future.

Sean Burke

Appreciated the discussion and would enjoy more of them in the future

Wooo! Milwaukee patron here. I'd say the Milwaukee airport is perfectly cromulent, much like the rest of this town. I live two blocks outside of where the soft security zone was for the RNC. It was a bizarre and nerve-wracking week. Thank you for the episode!

Clifford Robinson

Liked it! I have to limit my intake of news & commentary to preserve my mental health; this pod was just right for me. I especially appreciated both of your unfiltered and genuine reactions, and @joy’s passion & intensity

Wanted to take a second to break from being a “lurker” patron and say that this convo captures what many of us are feeling and as a south Asian immigrant so much of this resonates with me - it IS scary AND potentially exciting. We live within the context, and I cannot consume culture (film cast, decoding etc) without acknowledging the current social climate - so I love pods like this.

Was a great conversation. In Australia the Liberal and Labour Party are almost indistinguishable from each other nowadays thanks to big business forcing their way into our government.

As much shit as we give our politicians here, I really am grateful for not being left with one straight old male or the other worse straight old male. Thanks for this window into US politics. Your feelings, especially Joy’s were palpable. This was a great break from the normal schedule of pop culture, poker adventures, etc., despite the dire circumstances.
