Joy, you are totally having a brat summer 🍏 I agree with y'all, this week has been wild and refreshing. Great episode!! 💚

Nicolas Zika

I really enjoyed the two more political podcast you made. Have also enjoyed whenever you guys talk politics at the Filmcast…. You all speak so eloquently and passionately that it is inspiring. As a non American I just want to say the the last couple of days have made me think that there may still be hope for the USA after all…

CDMatthew

Please keep having conversations about this enormously consequential election WHEN YOU FEEL INSPIRED TO DO SO. I wouldn’t want you to feel obligated to have ongoing political commentary on here (or to feel limited to focusing on a single topic) but these two episodes were enormously helpful to me. And let’s face it: we’re all going to be “in this” until November. One thing that @joy talked about in this ep particularly resonated with me: that many of us have been holding SO MUCH inside ourselves, so many feelings that have gone unprocessed (anxiety, anger, grief, fear), and it may be that it’s only by coming together in community with each other that we can move through all those feelings to a place of renewed hope and joy and truly fulsome, inspired ACTION in this election. Thank you both for your insights and your candid reflections. #kamala2024

I am loving these all-political discussions, and really appreciate hearing both your feelings since they differ greatly. I also would like to hear a Star Wars recap series with Joy leading the way.

Alphonse Brown

In the same way of you & Joy’s early pandemic podcasts, these heartfelt discussions assist in the processing of all that is going on in this anxiety-inducing whirlwind called life. I’m a Patron because, I believe, it is just as therapeutic for you to produce this ‘content’ as it is for us to listen to. Throw in some entertaining doses of pop culture opinions, Poker Room encounters, Jury Duty stories or whatever is on your mind…I’m here for it! Keep up the great work, Dave! Brat on, Joy! 😊

Clifford Robinson

Thanks to you both! Enjoyed both of these pods immensely and would love more if you feel so inclined. You captured and articulated many of my thoughts and emotions around the whirlwind of developments these past weeks. Huge props to @joy for her activism and insights into the process!

I’ve been a listener for years and just wanted to come and add my voice to thank you for this. I cried in the parking lot of the gym listening to Joy talk about Monterey Park. Especially just taking about how in America we’ve been forced to move from tragedy to tragedy with little to no time to grieve before we have to move on to the next one. Sincerely THANK YOU. I needed to hear it and it just gave me a moment to process a small piece of my own grief. Please do continue these as you want to. It might not be for everyone but is sounds like it was valuable to you and certainly was valuable to many listeners. Thank you.

Claxton26

I love these politics check ins. Please keep doing these until election night!🥳🥳

Gregg D.

Behold- my comment. Happy to hear more.

Anne Moreau

Hi yes please do more of these❤️

Iain

Just finished listening to this 2nd 'political' episode. Both you and Joy's open honesty is to be admired. I could feel the emotions over the audio. Wether I agree with the views expressed or not is irrelevant to my appreciation and continued support. That said, I would advise that you consider the ramifications of recording/posting such possibly divisive conversations. You're both very intelligent people, so I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that. I'll support and listen as long as I'm able. Love you both!

Derek Cheng

You need to name these “The Cry of Joy”. So good 🥥🌴

Thank you so much for this! I always find the serious conversations with you and Joy cathartic but this one was even more so. The enthusiasm and optimism was really contagious! Question for Joy, if she see this: Where did you sign for organizing? Act Blue? During the last presidential election I signed up to text voters., but I was in California. This year we are having to move to Orlando, Florida and it feels even more vital for me to get even more active with organizing and volunteering, so I just wanted to make sure I was pointed in the right direction. If I’m going to live in a possible swing state, I’m going to make sure I give everything I have for Harris and the Dems down ballot.

Joy o Napping

Hi Connor! It’s a bit hard to reply just here but the understanding is that besides donating, the most impactful things to do (in order) are: 1) canvassing/door knocks 2) phoning 3) texting 4) postcard writing

Joy o Napping

I wish I could spend a few minutes of context (love context like I love coconuts) but basically… ALL of these are valuable and ideally there are multiple touch points per voter. You get lists from local offices of who is registered and didn’t get a door knock or call yet. It’s all super labor and data intensive (where our donations go). Texting works similarly. The Harris campaign HOPEFULLY has a field office near you… tbh, Florida is not considered as much of a swing state these days so they may not have spent the money on rent, utilities, etc to invest in this. Maybe they will now that there is more funding coming in. So the direct answer is you sign up via the Harris campaign, will post link. FYI the field office often is supporting multiple candidates down ballot or other initiatives so you may be asked if you want to volunteer for those messages too. But voters can only kind of be asked one thing at a time so they prioritize the list and ask for you.

Joy o Napping

If the Harris campaign doesn’t have an office, the Democratic Party likely will especially in the most competitive races for November. I am not sure where or when you’re moving but if you get stuck I can do more digging on specifics.

Connor Rock

Wow!! Thank you for this extensive and knowledgeable response! I also appreciate knowing where the most impact comes from (door to door) not something I knew. I really appreciate you taking all this time to respond! Thank you, thank you! I have some work and research to do.

Connor Rock

In a lighter note, I’m so glad you’ve now dived into Chappel Roan. I’ve had her most recent album on repeat for a few months and it’s been a source of pure joy. Pink Pony Club is my favorite off that album!

Andy Szeto

Thank you to you both. My wife and I loved listening to your perspective. We are both Chinese American GenX. Of all the political podcasts and YouTube videos that we watch, we do not see many from the Asian American perspective. I think this fits right in with Dave’s old Culturally Relevant podcast. We started a recurring weekly donation to the Harris campaign after listening to Joy. You both are appreciated.

Joy o Napping

My fav song changes every day but I think that’s mine too right now? Have you seen the Pink Pony paw paw on TikTok?

Maddox Finkel

Liking and commenting which I never do. As the election draws nearer and anxieties continue to heighten, spaces to sort of decompress, lay everything on the table, and try and have a level headed view of where we are while waters get choppy around us, are incredibly helpful. Please continue to do so!

Patrick Neon

Thank you for another politics update! I would love to have more of these in the future 🙌

Gary Yarbrough

Just spent 2 hours phone banking for the first time!

Fay Krokower

Hard yes for more of this and thank you!

Now just leaving an AZ Dems 100day out party where I signed up for more events? I have my first yard sign? Things really are moving quickly!

Hayley

I loved this episode and adore you both!

Reynaldo K. Cruz

All the gop are pos a holes. This “we go high” nonsense is hopefully at an end. No mercy when dealing with a party whose goal is harming people.

Reynaldo K. Cruz

And nah, “not like us” is the song of the summer

Loved this episode, and I’ll listen to more podcasts like this from you two anytime you want to make one. I just finished listening, and I had to laugh though- I am on a girl’s trip in Lake Tahoe at the moment. There is a group of us, all 50+, and we spent all day yesterday making friendship bracelets (which none of us have ever made before) for Kamala. Our plan is to pass them out to all the young adults/teens we see while we’re up here for the week. There is such a sense of hope finally, after so many years of doom and gloom.

Brad Sucks

As a Canadian who's been unbelievably tired of hearing about American politics, I really enjoyed these two political episodes. The renewed hope is a breath of fresh air. Would be happy to listen more episodes through the election. Thanks for sharing, Dave and Joy!

Warpstone

Once again enjoyed the conversation. I would like to hear about the meet up Joy was doing. Also thoughts pre and post election.

CDMatthew

This is so well put, Alphonse, and I agree wholeheartedly!
