I'm unable to hop over to Vimeo for a better viewing experience (unauthorized). I have to zoom in to get the full effect of Joy's side glances and reactions. Maybe it's unavoidable for the technology 🤷🏼‍♀️

David Chen

Interesting. Yeah it’s how I’m making the videos exclusive for now. Sorry about that!

David Chen

Upon further reflection: can you explain what functionality you aren’t getting with an embed that you want by going to vimeos website

David Nedde

I could not see the video full screen on patreon. Now that I looked further the little arrow next to the v opens a control panel with a full screen button. So I am all set now, sorry for the confusion!

I felt relieved when Dave backed off from his impulse to try breaking bad news, after a bit of reflection and reevaluation. A question for Dave: as someone who likely spends more time online than a lot of people, how do you stay grounded in day-to-day reality and IRL experience? Any practices or recommendations? Side note: I’m so impressed with your productivity in recent weeks! Really enjoying your vids, the pods, the extra content….has your prolific output resulted in growth of your audience and additional subs? (Maybe this is a topic for an upcoming Dave on Dave.)

love this format so much! you're great together

David Chen

Hey! Staying grounded is definitely difficult and I don't think I have it nailed down quite yet. As for growth of audience - nah, but I assume it's helped with retention of existing subscribers!

If possible, I'd love if these could be unlisted YouTube videos instead of patreon videos. That would let me watch them on my living room tv instead of phone/computer which would be awesome! I understand there's risk of the link being shared or if it causes extra work. Just a thought. Thank you for these fun shows!

I am really enjoying these TikToks-of-the-week videos. I'm not a tiktokker (tiktokkie?), so getting both the hand-picked selections as well as analysis is 100% my jam 👏

Love the format as someone who wants to spend zero time on those platform but appreciates your curation and perspective! I know you’ve both criticized AI for personal medical questions; ethically I get it—concerns about stolen training data are valid. I won't defend that. And hallucinations are a thing. But for me and my family, we have found the $20/mo paid LLMs (not the low-powered, free ones) completely indispensable in navigating medical care. They’ve flagged important issues/connections in labs/symptoms that doctors missed or that were outside a clinician’s specialty, even leading to correcting long-standing misdiagnoses. They help us “pre-game” appointments so we arrive with focused questions. They've helped us research and narrow down a list of potential specialists. For our parents, LLMs have clarified complex cancer treatments and prognoses, letting us explain current and future options to them much better than their doctors took the time to, and empowering them to feel good about getting a cutting edge treatment they otherwise wouldn't have. They've also coached us through insurance disputes—who to contact, what to say, and how to apply the right kind of pressure. If ethics are a concern, there are clinician-oriented LLMs trained on medical literature (e.g., Glass Health) that are worth exploring. Perhaps these tools aren't for everyone, and are even harmful for some—I suspect a baseline info-savviness and judgment are a pre-requisite for knowing how to use these tools effectively -- as a fallible thought partner with certain special powers, but not an authority. I literally can't imagine not having this, so am always a bit surprised to hear your feelings about their usefulness, given you both also have some "interesting" medical things going on.

Also, I'm enjoying watching these with my Significant Other, but it's pretty tricky. The first video was Patreon hosted and not airplay-able without screen mirroring (which hurts quality a lot). This video is a Vimeo embed, and a little better. However, Airplay playback is _really brittle_ and things like pause basically don't work at all. An unlisted youtube video would be ideal, and other viewer-supported feeds (like ATP member specials) do this and seem successful. Thanks again, and looking forward to the next episode!

David Chen

Good to know, Geoff. Thanks and sorry for the troubles, all! I’ll keep this in mind.
