Had to pause and immediately comment on the amazing pronunciation of CeraVe. I will forever now pronounce this way.

I am mostly surprised that Dave is extremely online but missed the Michael Cera-Ve ad campaign!

Dave, if you’re a fan of CeraVe, you might love La Roche Posay, which is definitely sold in Europe (and the US if you want to try it here first!) The Toleraine line is thin like CeraVe, but the Lipikar AP+m triple repair cream is great for face & body.

Years ago, somebody talked me into getting one of those stupid washer/dryer combo machines, and they’re truly awful and annoying…the machines, I mean, and I guess the somebody, too. (A ruse similar to marketing shampoo and conditioner in a single bottle, but multiplied a hundredfold.) A lot of credit to Dave for taking this gamble without direct experience of Portugal. (But Joy’s clear-eyed assessment and analysis is like gold.) Best of luck, you two!

You know, I did see that ad but I guess I just like saying it the way I say it!

When we moved to London my wife and I were also worried about how uncommon proper dryers are. Even households that have standalone dryers still line dry much of their clothes. One of my coworkers incredulously commented on how they went to a very fancy house party, and the host had “a room just for a washer and dryer! Like an American!”

Can't express just how much the memory of munching an early morning pastel de nata with a glass of galão coffee is imprinted into my brain. One of the simple pleasures I miss most from my time there.

If I’m invited - let me know if you want me to bring 6 racks of pork spare ribs - an American standoff.

Traveling around Ireland, we used some combo washer/dryers. We didn’t demand much from them, but had no issue with their functionality. Smaller loads, and obviously I can’t speak to the long term experience, but I was pleasantly surprised.
