Patrons: I just published my very first travel vlog of our trip to Portugal. This video went through several iterations and I wanted to share a rough draft (above) of an earlier iteration which contains about 7-8 minutes of additional material, exclusively for Patrons. [All the additional material occurs within the first 10 minutes of the video, so after that point there is no need to watch both videos]

Originally I thought it would be fun to show what it was like in our household the final days before our departure, including all the packing and visits we did, but I got some feedback that the stakes weren't quite high enough for this to work in the final video. As a result, the final video doesn't have these sections. But as Patrons, I thought they might be of interest!

I doubt I'll be able to do this type of thing every single time I make a video but I definitely can this time so I wanted to share this with you as a thank you.

Thank you for following our journey and thank you so much for your emotional and financial support. It's made a huge difference for us.

New eXpat files soon.

Sending all the good vibes to you & Joy on this new chapter!

This was so excellent, like a fancy video version of the expat files pod. The feeling of experiencing something for the first time that you know you will be common place is a strange feeling; the front door of a new home, the slight difference in the taste of tap water, a new favorite local snack or drink. Thanks for sharing the journey!

Honestly, Dave and @joy, made me a little emotional for y'all too, listening to those waves lapping the shore. So relieved/thrilled/proud(?) for you both to finally be there. Sincerely hoping y'all both come to love the place ✌🏼

Michael Gray

You made it! Congrats to you both for doing the thing. I appreciate the vlogs.

I’m so excited for the two of you. You’re bringing up all of my memories of living abroad in Germany. Can’t wait to hear more about your experiences.

Ron Dawson

Dude! So excited for the journey you and Joy have begun. Traveling abroad like this for an extended period was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. You’re going to love it!

Chris Cameron

Well done to you both! I'm guessing flying into Lisbon instead of Porto had something to do with the deal on business class tickets? Or not wanting to take a third flight in a row? Also, eagerly awaiting the report on the tinfoil thickness and availability of peanut butter and dried dill! By the looks of those built-in blinds, you may not have needed the blackout curtains?

Jess

Thank you for knowing your patrons so well. Of course I want to see the Marie Kondo folding method in action (sincere)! I'm so happy for you and Joy. I've enjoyed every minute of the eXpat files, and I can't wait to watch your journey unfold. I'm also Type A with zero chill, so I'm looking forward to your thoughts/experiences on what and how things change for you.

We absolutely did not need the blackout curtains lol. I knew the blackout blinds were common but didn't realize this house had it. Porto has many nonstops to Europe but limited ones outside of Europe and some of them are seasonal routes for summer tourism. There were 1.5 semi decent options to connect from Seattle, but #tradeoffs (including price). Delta is adding a nonstop JFK-Porto next year that will be a game changer for us!

Great video intro and I look fwd to following the series. As a Brit that moved the other way to California many years ago, it tickled me to see you at LHR. I spent a year living in Greece and I can't wait to see the discoveries and adventures along the way. Long live the Filmcast!

Still trying to figure out how all that luggage got into that car. That's pretty remarkable.
