I was planning to get the Portuguese Golden Visa at the end of last year but held off to see what the outcome was, wont be proceeding now. I moved my family from the USA and we first went over to Portugal where we lived for 3 months at the start of this year. My kids went to a world school called Boundless Life that was based in Sintra. It's a great way to test the waters for families looking at living in other countries before going all the way in. We found that Portugal wasn't for us and are now in London (I'm originally grew up in Scotland so no visa issues for me). We are much happier there, it feels like a good mix of the ease of the USA (no language barrier, good infrastructure, many of the same products, next day amazon delivery etc) while also having the European benefits of better political climate (still problems but no nearly as bad as US), better work life balance and social net in general. Many of the issues I've heard you bring up Dave I often find myself thinking he wouldn't have those problems in the UK. I know it might be harder to get a visa but I really think it's worth exploring when you regroup.

David Chen

Hey Peter: I’d be curious to learn what your visa situation is in the UK as well as why Portugal didn’t work for you. Feel free to DM if that’s easier.

Joy o Napping

It sounds like since he’s a UK citizen, no visa is necessary? Not sure for wife and kids

Peter Henrie

Yes, I sent Dave a DM, I'm a UK Citizen, kids get it from me and my wife gets a spousal visa.

My mind is blown that this is the first we are hearing of the in-house sewage smell

Carole M

Separately and unrelated to sewage, happy to report that i sent my husband to Nuri and O Fominhas and he was very pleased with both

When I lived in London I couldn’t walk to work looking straight ahead cause I would step in the many many piles of dog poop on the side walks. Council tax was applied to everyone’s rent which was something like£100 on a 650£ rent which was proportional a lot. So you then see these cleaners the council would employ picking up all the dog poop with a shovel and bin. Good times. Also unrelated now you have an end date are you planning of visiting other countries. Spain is so close and seems like a waste not to go see !

Y'all, this was a really lovely episode. Inspiring hearing you recontextualize the language challenges, @joy. In some ways, I'll be applying this to other challenges I've been having with balancing work and personal projects. And, Dave, your story about Ricardo was touching. Keep on keeping on, y'all. ::elbow bump::
