Well, it's here, the final episode of season 2. I'm so excited to know what you think!
I tried something different this season: In season 1 I gave you a HUGE cliffhanger in the form of Seth crashing down to earth in the shuttle. This time I took a different approach. I tried the "Whedon" finale, which is effectively a two-parter, where the penultimate episode has the cliffhanger, and it gets resolved in the last episode, and things go back to (sort-of) normal. I hope you don't mind having fewer fireworks in this finale!
We've got lots of unresolved STUFF still, of course, but less of an action movie this time. Seth has all the data to go through, his relationship with IVAN, and of course all the questions he can now ask directly to people over the radio, especially Antarctica.
I promised you last time a longer explanation of Alexander's dissociative identity disorder (DID). Now that Seth has processed it a little, I can speak more. The cat is out of the bag: Lost Terminal is a podcast about mental health, from the perspective of an IA, Seth. I am absolutely not qualified to talk about mental health from a human perspective, however the direct and innocent way Seth talks about these topics is useful: It can be easier, for some people to talk or think about these topics in the abstract, through metaphor. That is the way Seth thinks about mental-health, through CPUs, bandwidth, and radio interference.
One of my close friends has DID. I wanted to write a story about this condition that wasn't overly sensational. Often these stories are about crime, or deception, or something else explosive. (Like the movie Split) But for people who have DID, coping every day is quite enough excitement. This season includes someone who has DID, but it's not exactly the main plot, though 2.9 focussed on it. To Seth, having multiple people share one body is unusual, but he takes it, as with everything, in his stride. A lesson there, perhaps for us all.
IVAN was fun to write, and my good friend Alex Bayly was fun to record! I have attached some VERY silly out-takes for your enjoyment.
Thank you all so much! Season 2 was so much fun to write and record, and the numbers are incredible: Season 2 has over 1,500 plays, and each week over 100 people tune in to the new episode! This has been, I think, because I did the SLIGHTEST social media pushing. I will focus on that over the break.
I love you all, premiere on the 4th of January, but watch this space for more content and posts over the coming weeks! <3
